Anyone still playing Medieval II?

Medieval II? Why, I never moved on from Medieval I!

('course, that's partly because my computer can't HANDLE Med. II, but that's beside the point)

What units do you use them with? They have to have a high defence value don't they?

No more so than any other unit you use to storm walls with.

The only downside to ladders is that your guys only unload one at a time on the wall, which makes them much more vulnerable. This is unlike with siege towers, in which everyone just jumps down at the same time.

Yes but your siege towers can burn down, even with you men inside them (oh what a victory this is when you are a defender!), and they do not unload all at once, merely in a large number.

Men from a ladder unload quicker than they let on. They have proven their usefulness to me time and again. And remember, you can build 3 ladders for every siege tower.

I tend to prefer ladders because you can run with them, and you don't have to wait forever for them to get unloaded meaning that sieges go much quicker.

The rams are easily set alight if there's archers on the walls, though. I'm going to go with the ladder strategy until I get some siege with range.

Rams are covered by leather, which is fire-proof. Towers are much more flammable, and ladders can only take people up one at a time.

Okay, forget about the rams, here's a much more annoying gripe:

me said:
New gripe: foreign units bumping my merchants off the resource they're trading!

It's especially annoying since they can bump me but it won't let me bump them! :aargh:

That doesn't solve the problem in any way. Nothing is stopping foreign units from walking over the resource and knocking me off it or any of the other resources you'll need to work for $$$.

I just blockade and wait for either a sally or a relief effort. Bonus for keeping most of your army intact fairly easily and for fighting a field battle (way more fun than a siege, because Total War sieges are linear and exploitable to a degree that even their field battles aren't). Kills more of the enemy in one go, too.

The Crusades are so damn annoying now in SS 6.3, they actually come to kill you with a lot of armies. I've already defeated 2 armies in the field near Cairo and 1 on a siege attempt. But they still have like 4 more armies already in Egypt!!!! They are like zombies, and the egyptians haven't invented the shotgun yet!

Poor you, the Crusades are actually kind of hard :(
