The Prez is in no way ready to deal with NKorea.
The peril of wishful thinking.

On the Obama administration's Asia team, almost all the senior officials handling the North Korea crisis have specialties outside of Korean affairs, a stark difference from the last two times Pyongyang exploded nuclear weapons in October 2006 and May 2009.

Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, who had extensive experience dealing with the North Korea issue, departed the government last week. His temporary replacement, Principal Deputy Secretary of State Joe Yun, is widely regarded as an excellent official but his background is in Southeast Asia. The State Department's special representative for North Korea policy, Glyn Davies, is a nuclear technology and Europe expert, having most recently served as the U.S. permanent representative to the IAEA in Vienna. State's special envoy to the (defunct) six-party talks, Clifford Hart, is a longtime China hand.

What do you advise? End this peace and start global thermonuclear war?

How exactly are we not ready to deal with Korea? I am sure you are trying to allude to something obvious I am just missing here

Chiteng believes that the only way we can defend ourselves from N.Korea is to allow Dear Leader into the White House for brunch and second breakfast, as Obama and Biden fan each individual cheek with the best quality of North Korean tear fans.

What exactly should Obama do wrt NK? Bomb them?

Sure, then throw the capital of one of our staunchest allies in the flames.

You need to take a dose of realism Chitlins.

And here I thought this was going to be about the nuclear test this morning and I was going to post a Lana-esque "nooooooooope!"

Actually I dont see NKorea as a major problem. It becomes one only when the person
who is making the decisions is an idiot.

We could easily cut all ALL contact w NKorea and let them rot.
If they insist on attacking something that is ours, then destroy them.

My point is about Obama, not NKorea

I don't get it. Are you suggesting destroying the North Koreans? Why would any one want to do that?

Are you suggesting letting them rot? Do you want people to rot?

He seems to be saying that Obama is an idiot for GWB pushing them into developing nukes, despite the wishes of the South Koreans to reunify instead of die horrible deaths. :dunno:

But it would be nice to be able to see more than 2 paragraphs of the article in the OP that requires registration to read.

People rotting is tough. But voting for a guy who loses isn't a walk in the park either. Those kreans and mexicans don't care about that, so why should Chits care about them eh? Eh?

Yes. I agree. These articles requiring registration never get read by me. Because of reasons.

I wonder where that peninsula is headed in the future. They might not unify like east Germany but split like Belgium from the Netherlands

It's not easy to say. German re-unification took me completely by surprise. Though I suppose after Poland and glasnost, it was kind of inevitable. With hindsight.

What is your point?

Is this some tired trope having to do with Vietnam and immigrants?

If so, please elaborate - you have started several threads along the same lines, and I'd hate to overstep the bounds of one by posting in another.

BREAKING NEWS:

PYONGYANG—Following reports earlier this morning that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea successfully conducted its third nuclear test, sources confirmed that every nation on the planet has surrendered to the mighty East Asian dictatorship.

Less than 24 hours after news of North Korea’s detonation of an atomic bomb at a test site near the Chinese border, humbled representatives from around the globe gathered before the Supreme People’s Assembly in Pyongyang to concede defeat to North Korea and offer their services to Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and his indomitable empire.

“In the face of this immense show of military might, our choice has become clear: surrender now or be instantly annihilated,” U.S. President Barack Obama said as he joined United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and all other world leaders in kneeling and groveling before the Dear Leader. “At this point, we cannot resist the will of the North Korean dominion, nor would we want to. Our defeated nations and the people therein are hereby property of our Noble Leader, who henceforth may do with them as he wishes.”

“May the divinely ordained dynasty endure for 1,000 years!” Obama added.

According to sources worldwide, following the total and unyielding capitulation of Russia, China, South Korea, and the rest of Earth’s nearly 200 sovereignties to North Korea, the newly subjugated nations have already begun the process of relinquishing their governments, militaries, cultural identities, and media outlets to the all-powerful autocracy.

Additionally, sources confirmed the global surrender has been expedited through the immediate occupation of all centers of government by thousands of North Korean diplomats, who are overseeing the voluntary turnover of all property—including munitions, gold bullion, and food—to the People’s Republic, which in the future may dole them out to its recently acquired territories as it deems appropriate.

“The United States and the rest of the world looks forward to devoting its resources and manpower to the great cultural and political project of our new North Korean rulers,” said Obama, as halfway around the world a North Korean flag was raised above the newly relinquished U.S. Capitol building. “It is a shame that it took this latest nuclear test to reveal our foolhardiness in attempting to resist the will of the mighty North Korean empire. Our only hope is that the great People’s Republic will forgive our past arrogance and take pity on its poor subjects. Your might and power truly know no equal, Dear Leader.”

When reached for comment Tuesday, the Global Supreme Leader himself was less conciliatory.

“The surrender of North Korea’s global enemies was an inevitability that our adversaries were foolish to delay,” Kim said. “In the coming weeks, the world’s people will learn firsthand the dear price of their resistance.”

EDITOR’S NOTE: Following the complete and utter surrender of the world’s inferior peoples to North Korea, The Onion would like to reaffirm its decades-long loyalty to the People’s Republic. As the Supreme Leader is no doubt aware, The Onion has secretly financed the Korean Workers’ Party since its inception, and we are proud at last to see the Powerful and Prosperous Nation take its rightful place. Long may North Korea reign, and death and dishonor to any who hope to oppose this mighty nation.

Congratulations! You have won pitiful race victory. Your people are starving and your country completely isolated. You have displayed the leadership qualities of Kim Jong-un.

Ask Muammar Gaddafi what the US does to leaders who give up their weapons programs.
