AP-2 Suleiman's conquest (RFC)

In the trade screen tell them to stop their agreements with Ragnar.

So, pretty awkward place to have my first set here :(

Turn 321:
- check spy, he's at max discount so I steal Mil. Sci from the germans

Turn 322:
- Izzy wants to trade maps. I agree
- Random event from ruins near paris that gives us a chance for beakers + extra beakers for economics. I pay the cash (212) for the chance - it doesn't pay off.
- AP resolution for open borders with everyone (was apparently done in previous set) succeeds
- Troops move towards Moscow

Turn 323:
- cancel OB with Vikings to maybe avoid plague. For some reason it isn't even an option to have Germans do so...needless to say we get the plague.
- DoW Russia

Turn 324:
- Independent city of Sana'a wants to join (the one in the very SW tip of the arabian peninsula) - I disband the city
- Toku wants us to cancel deals with Khmer .. I checked out the deals we had with each and decided to risk saying no.
- plague spreads.

Turn 325:
- bombard Moscow
- plague spreads

Turn 326:
- Ethiopia collapses
- Capture moscow, no vassal but we get peace for map, 120 gp, and 8 gpt
- plague spreads more

Turn 327:
- nothing interesting

Turn 328:
- Communism in, I pick Physics but nothing invested yet

Notes:
- Some dog soldiers near Marsin (new orleans)
- former ethiopians (2 horse archers) are near Jerusalem area, I rushed a pike to get in their way (cheaper than rifle) since most of the troops down there died from plague
- rifles queued in lots of cities to replace plague deaths of outdated forces.
- settler/missionary/worker are on a galley escorted by a frigate headed for america. Didn't have an extra rifle or anything to send with them
- Knights/Curaisser/Cavalry are en-route to cities that have 0 troops, just as filler for now
- Our spies died of the plague
- I did NOT switch to state property, wasn't sure about that.
- Plague pretty much everywhere now, but I think we've already taken the worst hits from it. We may need to close borders to prevent it re-spreading?

- Our stability is now 'Unstable' :undecide:

Whenever plague comes, I recall all spies back home (so that the other civ's troops will die rather than my spy, and I haven't wasted the turns sitting there, if only to do counterespionage).
I think the next time we declare on the Russians, it will be to vassalize him. We can also try to get the Americans.

Mecca was about to be captured on your last turn by the independents?

:lol::lol::lol:

[pimp]

Couldn't resist...

I hit end turn and watched the Independent Galley unload some Longbows into the undefended Mecca.

The game would have given you a warning when enemy units are approaching, such as that Galley in the Red Sea.

EDIT: I wanted to see if our stability was on the way up or down. Our vassal Persia recaptures Mecca and liberates it to us. But I'm sure we lose a bunch of buildings when this all happens.

This is kinda bad for stability. Can we please reload and get some troops from Jerusalem into Mecca?

This is kinda bad for stability. Can we please reload and get some troops from Jerusalem into Mecca?

There's no extra troops to be had. There was only 1 xbow in Jerusalem to start with, Mecca's lone troop died of the plague.

Would anybody mind if I follow Trynthlas and see if I can save our shrine from being captured? At the very least we could send some knights back from Moscow in 5 turns.

Maybe we shouldn't declare on Russia yet because that was what drove Ethiopia to collapse, and their troops wouldn't become independent and invade us.

EDIT:
Never mind, we're in US and we have cash! I bought a rifleman in Mecca and it was saved. :)

1. 1724 Another Great Spy born in Istanbul! I decide to build the Interpol in Istanbul (most espionage), since we need some stability and it'll take another 4 great people for a golden age. I start the Kremlin in Istanbul and Opera House in Paris. Demanded most of the health resources from our stable vassals to get over this plague. Redirect Germany to research steel and Spain to get Optics (we can't gift it to them because we stole it in the first place; we'll give Astronomy to them in 2 turns).

2. 1727 Were still unstable. I sent our 8 (!) workers resting in Mediolanum to build a fort at the NW corner of France (so our ships can load and unload easier). Actually, we can use Spain as a loading dock also since there's no extra charge for our units in their territory (they are our vassals). Also need way more troops in America to protect against dog soldiers so I sent some of our Russian veterans over there (will take a lot of ships!). Might as well open borders with the Vikings for the stability.

3. 1730 Plague is gone! I gift Spain education and astronomy and direct them to research economics (right now we have more than enough espionage to steal 2 techs from the Germans)

4. 1733 Some IAs and theaters are built, giving us more stability (we're now shaky)

5. 1736 Great general born in Mediolanum (after killing some dog soldiers). I send him to...where else, Bogazkoy. Workers arriving in droves in the New World.

6. 1739 I chopped Summer Palace in Chicago (need some buffering culture against Washington soon). Persia is sending a stack towards Egypt and will capture Al-Iskandariya soon.

A good point to remember when colonizing America is: chop all trees around America's spawn site.

7. 1742 Plague spreads in Inca. Persia captures but I burn Al-Iskandariya to the ground: one less civ to worry about respawning.

8. 1745 Gift Education to Persia and direct them to get economics.

9. 1748 A (?English) privateer kills an empty galleon of the coast of South Carolina. I kill it with a frigate. Start some frigates in Greece.

10. 1751 1st to Physics (so we have a great engineer, great spy and now a great scientist sitting in Bogazkoy, just need a 4th for another golden age). I set a priest and 2 merchants to work in Bogazkoy (next great person in 9 moves) and unfortunately, Sparta also has another great person in 10 moves, so I made Bogazkoy work one less tile to get to the next GP quicker.
I steal chemistry from the Germans, choosing steam power next.
Paris builds Opera House.

(In conquest games you want to emphasize production first, especially assembly line and fascism, then electricity and radio).

We now -4 (shaky) and should be stable as soon as some IAs and SBs come online. I tried to build as much infrastructure as possible since we're still in OR right now, but I had to build some ships in Rome and Greece because they are our only good seaports.

To do:
1. A whole bunch of filled galleons are sitting in Seville waiting for escorts.
2. England is about to learn rifling and they've built Vancouver. Whenever the Americans appear, we need to gift them a map, make them pleased and see if they will vassalize spontaneously later (Rhye made it so that they won't do so immediately). England will most likely declare war on them, and we can do so ONLY if the Americans are willing to vassalize to us (if you're at war with England they won't vassalize), and if they make peace, kill them both. Just get lots of ships built soon for invasion after assembly line.
3. Check on our spies often (one in Santander for economics, one going to Amsterdam for steel). Redirect vassals to research military stuff but not enough to surpass us. We can probably be a little spendthrift about our espionage since nobody is going to surpass us.
4. As soon as we get economics, we need corporation for Assembly Line and trade routes. Do not trade or gift it away unless our vassals are in trouble stability-wise.
5. Found Denver and maybe Duluth also, but watch stability closely. NO MORE CITIES TO BE FOUNDED!!! (we'll soon have too many to conquer)
6. World conference is happening soon, everybody will probably be voting against us, so be prepared for war against Russia and England (the only ones who can potentially harm us).
7. Remember, for conquest we need:
a. Tanks (industrialism, railroad, combustion)
b. Good civics (fascism, nationalism) and the ability to switch to occupation without anarchy (Cristo Redentor--radio)
c. a good dumping civ for trash cities (Vikings, maybe a respawned Mali)

I hate to sound like a task master, but having played so many of these conquests, there is a formula that works best. Land grab in RFC only works up to a certain point, then you suffer with too little science and too much instability.

Blizzrd you're next. Save our economy (we're just at 70% running a deficit)!

Turn 0: 1751AD
OK, so lets take stock of our current situation. We have 70% science 361g in hand but are set to lose 99gpt. We are researching Steam Power (6 turns to go). There's nothing particularly vital about shaving a turn or so off Steam Power at the cost of emptying our bank account so I retreat to 60% science which puts one extra turn on Steam Power.

Trade deals time. Cancel Wine to China for Incense (we already have). Trade Wine to China for 8gpt instead. Trade Wine to Japan for Gold. Cancel Wheat to Japan for Crab (we already have). Trade Wheat to Japan for 3gpt instead. Give Germany back Cow and Wheat (which we had demanded previously). Trade Fish to Spain for 3gpt. Upgrade our Copper to Persia deal from 2gpt to 3gpt. Trade Fish to Russia for 8gpt. Trade Cotton to England for Fur. WM trading for 30g.

After that we are +23gpt better off and have better luxury resources in all of our cities. We are now running +31gpt at 60% science.

Our target is England, sooner or later. I favoured sooner about 40 turns ago, but we went for Moscow instead. England will be a harder nut to crack now, but can still be taken. Russia is very backwards, but stable enough currently. It seems that they recently lost Samara to independence (SW of Moscow).

I buy some selected upgrades of military units and start a reshuffle of our army. Obsolote defensive units (Crossbows and Longbows) head for Greece and Asia Minor. Our mounted units head for the loading yards near Paris (nice build of that fort) and after reshuffling our defensive units along the Russian frontier, our cannons and some Riflemen can also head for the loading yards.

Turn 1: 1754AD
Found Denizli (Denver) and spread Judaism. Sign Defensive Pact with China (and their Vassal Khmer) for the stability. We will need to war with Japan/Inca and having China/Khmer as an ally seems good. China are currently Stable.

Return resources previously demanded from Spain and only take their surplus goods. WM trading for 60g.

Turn 2: 1757AD
Marble to England for 5gpt. Start building some Airships both for scouting the black holes in our world map and for the upcoming battles with England.

Turn 3: 1760AD
Germany learns Steel, set them to Banking next. Our spy arrives in Amsterdam. Troops previosuly set for transport out of Spain to the New World start crossing the Atlantic.

Turn 4: 1763AD
Turkish revolt in Samara. Steal Steel from Germany, we have heaps of espionage points against Germany and can afford to not wait for the discount at this stage because Germany won't be learning another tech that we can steal for a while.

Here is the situation near Samara. Russia looks a bit weak, if this is their best attacking forces. Just a handful of Cannons and some Knights and Pikes.

Turn 5: 1766AD
Oidu founded (Duluth) and Judaism spread. We are Shaky (-4) currently with our stability. Upgrade our Horse to Japan deal from 4gpt to 5gpt. Our economy is now +40gpt and we have 148g in hand on 60% science.

Here is the North American situation shortly before America spawns:

Turn 6: 1769AD
Kremlin built in Istanbul. Select Apostolic Palace vote to be for Open Borders with every member. Tell our vassals to trade embargo England.

England has learnt Corporation (as has Japan) and we will need this after we steal Economics from Spain to start learning Assembly Line. Why do the research ourselves when we have espionage points to burn? Our espionage accounts with both Spain and Germany are far greater than we are ever likely to need. So I set our Espionage over to England and load a spy onto a Galleon for a visit to London.

Turn 7: 1772AD
Germany captures Samara (after Russia did all the hard work!).

Steam Power is learnt. We haven't stolen Economics (or Corporation) which is a prerequisite for Assembly Line. So I start research on Electricity (11 turns), but will later have to change this once we can start on Assembly Line.

Trade Wine to England for 9gpt. Trade Pig to Spain for 1gpt. WM trading for 80g. Our Spy arrives in London.

Turn 8: 1775AD
Vikings vassalize to China (and cancel our previous Defensive Pact with Vikings in the process). Turkish revolt in Savannah. Jewish Synagogue is built in Chicago to maximise our cultural influence over Washington when it is founded next turn.

Gift America our WM, they become Pleased. WM trading for 75g. Our economy has grown to +76gpt now and we have some cash in hand that I use to rush some Security Bureaus and Intelligence Agencies in some of our production poor cities - for the stability bonuses.

Turn 9: 1778AD
Great Artist is born in Bogazkoy, and that's the quadrella of Great People we needed for our next Golden Age! :king: I remove the forced specialists in Bogazkoy. Some extra troops arrive in Zonguldak (Chicago) after a ferry ride across the Atlantic, just in case the Americans declare on us.

Our spy in Amsterdam has nothing much to do at this stage. Germany is a long way from teching anything that we can steal, even after I gifted them Astronomy and Paper over the recent turns. But we can steal 96g in Amsterdam at 98% success chance so I take this option and return our spy to Istanbul. We may be able to espionage steal again in Amsterdam again for a decent amount of cash.

England has founded Rockhampton in NE Australia. Some of our Airships (one based in a Russian city in Siberia and one based in a Spanish city in Venezuela) scout Mongolia and the Amazon basin. We have most of the World Map revealed now.

Save? :) 910

Turn 10: 1781AD
England's time is up. America flips 3 English cities (Savannah, Philadelphia and Boston) and England and their vassal Aztecs declare war on America.

Using our spy in Santander (-50%), we steal Economics from Spain (which they just learnt this turn). Using our spy in London, we steal Corporation from England (-20%). I switch our research to Assembly Line (10 turns). We are still 8 turns away from researching Electricity (having spent about 3 turns on it). WM trading for 110g. Cancel our Wine to Japan for Gold deal now that we have hooked up our own Gold in the Rocky Mountains.

I also switch our espionage to America. England no longer has any techs that we need and they are researching Steam Power. America has Nationalism and with about 7 turns of espionage spending we will be able to steal it from them. Perhaps less if they become our vassals (-50% espionage costs).

The time has come to Declare War on England (and Aztecs). Open Borders with America, now that we have a mutual enemy.

Here is the situation before our invasion of London:

After some bombardment from our Ships of the Line and Frigates and some airstrikes from Air Ships in France, London is captured for the loss of 3 Cavalry. I unload a bunch of troops in the city to defend against the expected counterattack.
