Appropriate reactions

I think Americans should just relax a bit and chill out. Life does not revolve around spider's battle. Find a meaning in your own life.

You guys are throwing a tantrum :)

I mean its not as if a President would say something like "Elections have consequences" or I have a pen and a phone and will just issue whatever Executive Order I want. Or that an administration would politicize the IRS and target perceived enemies. Or that the Department of Justice would selectively enforce only some of the laws.

Y'all thought it was fine when the Constitution was ignored when it suited your ideology. You should pray (whoops bad metaphor for the political left :) ) that the right respects the Constitution more than it wants payback, because if not its going to be a long road ahead

We just elected a guy who openly praised Saddam Hussein for executing suspected terrorists without trial and refused to rule out using nuclear weapons for no reason on our own allies. Who controls all three branches of government. People who angrily insist that everything will be alright are in for a rude awakening. And they're almost certainly white.

What sorts of reactions might be appropriate? Probably something like the advertisements that have magically appeared on the TV in Illinois over the past three hours. Eff those people. I will lose despite the Trump win, as will everyone less rarified than actual millionaires who fashions themselves a winner. And yet, I don't give a [feces]; nobody with my demographic characteristics have a reason to. Can anybody give me one? I doubt it...

Americans are too obsessed with people's skin colour. That's not really important.

You're the guy with 18th century morality who approves of slavery. Forgive me if I don't care about your opinion.

But I am the guy with European 18th century morality. The Old World never seriously minded skin colour, especially in 18th century. Obsession with White/Black/Yellow/Green is a very American gimmick and a very silly one.

True. The concern is with Pence though. There's a good chance Trump is just going to be a figurehead with Pence making all the real political moves of his administration.

You underestimate the massive ego of a raging narcissist. I see Trump playing the business exec. He'll bring in people he considered to be experts and turn the day-to-day operations of the Executive Branch over to them.

You forget it was Europeans who decided to buy African slaves and send then to the New World. It quickly became racial.

Creating 10 separate reaction threads is not an appropriate reaction.

In USA. But British were sending white guys a lot as well, say, folks from Ireland. And long before the whole America's story European were buying and selling Slavs until the latter formed states strong enough to stop this practice. So the reason why a lot of African became slaves was not because of their skin colour but because African rulers were either weak or actually willfully traded their population themselves having no other resource to trade. Europeans are pragmatists in this regard. In USA, yes, eventually this White/Black conflict has become a part of national identity. But we, Europeans, are much more cool about these questions. If we were incessantly pestering each other about every time we enslaved and killed each other en masse, we would not be able to get along at all. Americans are just too whiny, here is my opinion.

And Africans also captured and enslaved millions of Europeans, from Sicily to Ireland, all the way to the 19th Century.

There are instances here, too, where some people said that if the Liberals won, they would move to the U.S. They haven't yet, but keep repeating their anti-Trudeau invective daily on the comment boards. My response? "Face south and keep going. I really don't care if the door hits you in the <anatomy> on the way out."

Apparently at least one "how to immigrate to Canada" website has crashed due to a sudden increase in traffic. But as Justin Trudeau said some time back, if everyone in the U.S. moved to Canada when they didn't like the candidate who became president, we would have ten times the population we do. Since we don't, it's safe to assume that most of the people threatening to move are just blowing off steam.

IKR. The modern left is hypocritical morally bankrupt trash.

The sheer amount of liberal butthurt today is historic. They honestly couldn't deserve it more with all of their hysteria, foaming at the mouth, and insults that they direct daily at anyone who isn't a part of their cult. Not to mention the fact that the media and polling this election has been the most dishonest garbage I have ever seen in my life time and the rhetoric has been nothing but a string of rabid insults, lefty buzzwords and lies. The left has all of the characteristics of bratty spoiled children who have to keep throwing bigger and bigger tantrums to keep forcing their will upon everyone else and it's clear everyone has had enough!

They deserve to lose the presidency, the house, senate, and supreme court. The interesting part will be seeing how many of them will be able to come back to reality and admit they were feed a pack of lies by the media and that their behavior was abhorrent.

Seems like we have sore winners and sore losers in our midst.

It's somewhat amusing to read the tweets of people claiming their lives are in danger because of Trump's victory but then also tweet that they would be 100% okay with Trump's assassination.

The worst choice won, but the world will go on. There's really no point in frothing at the mouth about white people (lol) or any other scapegoat for the hand being what it is. You've been dealt this, it's time to work with it without hysterics.

Wow. I suppose that I, a Canadian left-wing voter, should be glad that you are apparently throwing insults only to your fellow forum members here who are American and prefer left-wing candidates/policies.

Someone on the Canadian comment boards this morning said you people will not recognize your country in 4 years - reference to what Stephen Harper, whom we turfed a year ago after what is now being called the "Decade of Darkness", said when he was elected ("when I get through with Canada, you won't recognize it"). Harper was correct - we didn't recognize how our once-respected country had turned into a place where cabinet ministers could stand up and spout support for blatantly racist policies they planned to implement, and where literally destroying entire science libraries was somehow a good thing.

Hopefully what happened here doesn't happen to your country. We are beginning to recognize our country again, a year later. With luck you'll only have to put up with 4 years, not 10.

I support this message.
Trump was the worst choice, no doubt. In many ways he was a really, really bad choice. But life goes on. He's not Hitler. The hysterical reactions are uncalled for, and might explain why the other camp lost to begin with.

Your posts never cease to amaze.

Just to stay on topic, I will say that discussing the "appropriate" reaction is a bit absurd. Why should any knee-jerk response be bad now? You bring up the Republican response to '08 and '12, but whatever you might think of how right or wrong that was, it's a huge part of the results of last night. Unless you're arguing that that itself is the whole problem.

All Harper did is run the economy and didn't want to bring unvetted Middle Eastern immigrants in. What the left says about him is nothing short of hysteria. He was a centrist.

You sure about that? Because the left seemed to be pretty sure that he was Hitler for about a year.

Thanks, I guess?
It's a well-known historical fact, though.

Of course it is part of the whole problem. One can argue Trump's election is a giant knee-jerk reaction.
