There is porn out there that is far less degrading than some of the reality TV that is aired.

That's disgusting, but I'd hardly call it degrading. Impolite, yes; debased, yes, but only because of the hygiene problems and lack of consideration.

sure they're degrading themselves like everyone else does for a job. I can't see why having sex for a living would be any better than working in any other job, in the end we're all selling our bodies for a paycheck.

As for the porn industry, its there choice. They choose to film what others keep private for money, not all people are willing to that, but others are willing to cash in. It's all a matter of personal perspective.

Exploiting yourself? How can someone exploit themselves? These all sound like "claims" by someone who has no valid reasoning at all, so they just make up things which sound good.

Whilst there are certainly issues to consider such as the working conditions in pornography, there is certainly nothing intrinsically wrong with it, and the same issues can apply to other areas of employment.

Does her view apply to all porn (e.g., a topless model?), or simulated sex, or just hardcore (actual sex)?

I don't nessesarly think so because you have your own consent, and you're not likley to do it if you think doing so will make you inferior or lower in character. I don't think they are any worse or debsed than any other human being. Also, I beleive if I asked a porn star if it makes them degraded and undignified they would respond by slapping me and giving me an angry "NO! YOU A$$HOLE!"

Child, I think you should listen to your mother and not watch porn. As for the question, it probably depends on the situation. I would say they are. But more importantly they're robbing themselves of future careers/opportunities as once you appear in them, it's hard for people to take you seriously in other avenues in life. At the end of the day, it's their choice.

In my opinion, yes, of course they are. I also feel that viewers of porn are doing the same. And, of course, the studies also show that viewers of porn are also suppressing their sex drive and decreasing the quality of sex over the long term.

They can be seen socially degrading themselves but it's something they have chosen to do themselves (even though for some circumstances might be little difficult => eastern european girls) and in the end it doesn't ultimately degrade them in some objective fashion making them somehow less humane or anything.

It's not wrong to watch porn as per se but you should understand that the behaviour in the movie is acted and not in terms of feelings anything real.

If your mother watches soap operas IMHO soap opera stars degrade themselves and watching them degrades the person watching them.
