Based on the wikepedia definition do you think we at CFC are intellectuals.

This line struck me the most from the wikepedia article:
"Often significantly contributing to the formation and phrasing of ideas, intellectuals are both creators and critics of ideology."

So do you think CFC'ers are intellectuals, State your reasons.

Poll Coming

No. A small subset of people on CFC are intellectuals. Most people in CFC are idiots.

Ditto.....or something like that. Maybe not idiots.

And everyone agrees on one thing: they (and those who agree with them) are the intellectuals, the rest are the ones who are idiots.

At any rate, my mind is much deeper than my posts.

Eh, not really. I'm pretty sure we can have a consensus that Perfection is an intellectual. :p

I think we're a mix somewhere between the village's idiot and the mad scientist.

Did anyone actually read the wiki article...?

FredLC: Yes
Garry Denke: Yes
All others: NO (although many think they are)

Not realy. Though some of us do put on an aura of being intellectuals.

while many at CFC have great intellectual capacity, "intellectuals" would probably not apply to most.

An intellectual is a person who uses his or her intellect to work, study, reflect, speculate on, or ask and answer questions with regard to a variety of different ideas.

There are, broadly, three modern definitions at work in discussions about intellectuals. Firstly, 'intellectuals' as those deeply involved in ideas, books, the life of the mind. Secondly, and here largely arising from Marxism, 'intellectuals' as that recognizable occupational class consisting of lecturers, professors, lawyers, doctors, scientist, and suchlike. Thirdly, cultural "intellectuals" are those of notable expertise in culture and the arts, expertise which allows them some cultural authority, and who then use that authority to speak in public on other matters.

While I do read books related in one particular field, and while I do assess and critic different theories, I'd hardly be able to call myself a professional like a lawyer or anything like that just yet. So, no.
