Ask A Commerical Pilot!!

That's an interesting question, as atm some airlines are phasing out older planes and bringing new ones in, they are reluctant to train pilots near retirement to fly the newer jets, and solely train the younger ones instead.

I know the odds of getting into a plane crash are low, but how many flights do you have to fly before the odds even out against you? :mischief:

Did you experience a lot of clear air turbulence and if so, was it scary even for a seasoned pilot such as yourself?

Have you played any PC flight sim games, and if so do the latest ones offer any realism at all?

How do you sleep on them long flights? ;)

What airports do you hate flying into and why?
Weather?
What was your training? If Navy do you ever fly onto an aircraft carrier?

Hello, i am about halfway done with college and still have no clue what job i want to. And flying seems like fun, how would one get the trianning to become a pilot? Also how is the job market for a pilot, do you need to have been in the AirForce, or can you land one right out of college?

PS, In the Marines i was in LAAD (AKA i shot down planes with stinger missiles). Would that hurt or help me in anyway when looking for a job as a pilot.

Sorry I haven't posted for a while, I'll get around to answering your questions when I can.

I'm no longer working for American, I've found a job for at a foreign carrier, Air New Zealand.

Yes, I've always being very interested in it.

I don't think you would be a pilot if you didn't like it.

I fly mainly 747s at this point, though I do fly 777s or 737s on the occasion.

Do you find it frustrating to fly a forty-year-old plane?

Do you keep the same copilot, or does it change every flight?

This question was posed earlier, but I didn't see a reply for it. What would it take for me to become a pilot? Suppose I didn't want to fly an airliner, but rather, something smaller, like a Learjet? Would I have to have a BS in Aerospace Engineering, or would I just need a pilot's license, or would they give me all the training I needed there?

What would you do if a snake suddenly came out of your instrument panel?

Had any close calls where you think gee im lucky to be back on earth, if so what happened?
Whats Air new zealand like to work for?gotta say there planes are the most comfortable ive been on for roominess and having your own entertainment screen is great to passes the time quickly.
Don't fly Lufthuansa long haul flights people they have the worst airline ive encountered.

Also do you watch those crash investigation programmes on discovery and if you do does this ever make you nervous about flying?

Flying airliners sounds really dull, was that always your dream or did you start off with smaller ambitions and an airline career grew on you?

Do you enjoy travelling, like when you get a layover do you do something fun or just check in to the hotel room and get some sleep?
