Ask a Dutchman!

What a timing.

I just hear Cameron Diaz saying. "just try it" when she was smoking weed in Bad teacher :p

My personal feeling is that the Black Peter being racist is a bit ridiculous. That said. the tradition in the Netherlands seems to be no older than the mid-19th century, so I wouldn't be surprised if racism was involved there. But since Black Peter is Santaclaus' helper, and not seen or depicted as evil... :dunno:
In origin they were demons, see:

Lie. The media wants to cast it that way, but all he said was that a homosexual person could be made straight. He said nothing about a disease.
If you imply something can be 'cured' isn't that the same as saying it's a disease?

Drugs may be bad, but that doesn't stop people from using them - legally or illegally. I think some sort of regulation is preferable then.
It's a South Park quote.

I know, I've used it myself a couple of times. ;)

That is one theory, but originally the role of St. Nicolas' helper wasn't that of a bogeyman (in the oldest versions it also wasn't a black man yet). Apparently the appearance of Black Peter in the Netherlands was also influenced from abroad, and the fact that black people began to appear as servant in certain house holds. In Indonesia however, there is no mention of a black helper througout the entire period. Also, seeing as the Netherlands were dominated by Protestantism, it is noteworthy that this Catholic saint survived into modern times.

I believe it's even more an orthodox saint than a catholic saint?
But indeed, it's strange that a (largely) protestant country celebrates such a saint. although the saint-bit is of course just veneer for the pagan festival.

...er...:mischief:...could anybody give me the names of some dutch dating sites please :mischief:?
I assume it's the same like here, and that you get such ads also on TV, and that these sites are most likely not a scam (which would be my main concern).

Guess that will be a bit difficult, but there's no harm in trying :mischief:.

Dutch dating sites?
Well, one I know of is www.paiq.nl, although I wasn't very fond of it at all (I did meet my wife there, but it was while I was checking the site out not for myself, but a friend of mine.)
There is also www.relatieplanet.nl and www.parship.nl, but I don't have any experience with those, I do believe those are the most popular ones.

But I don't have that much experience with dating sites (except Paiq, which I actually disadvise, I found it very childish)

And one I find fascinating is called second love which is explicitly aimed, I kid you not, at people who are looking for some fun outside their relationship.

I guess I'm missing the requirements for that ^^.

 might be worth asking the customer support at parship if the different national portals are somehow connected with each other. Would make it a bit easier.

Guess I'll also not try Paiq, since I'm a bit serious about that.

And thanks :).

But it is imperative that you know Dutch.

Guess google will have to help there.
Like said, I don't expect it to be easy.
But online dating might be more successful than in RL. At least the girls have some time to think about if the language is a problem, which might not lead to a direct rejection.

I've seen that one of the portals for expatriats has also a dating section.
They allow you to check the short descriptions of the latest accounts. Did that. Found 2 accounts with the same short description. -> not going to pay for that.

I was thinking more of the various site navigations(s). I don't think too many Dutch girls will object if you don't speak Dutch (well). ;)

Isn't it easier to let it be known that you're in for some action and that you're a seductive strange foreigner?

Pity. Why boring? You hold power over life and death in a mighty forum, and can even ban people. Surely these 'females' should approve of it?

Back to teh Netherlands: How recommendable is the eierbal?

@The_J: There is a TV-show here that focuses on women that have fallen in love with some foreign men. If I can judge from the trailers, often they can't understand each other. I think you're safe with German :p

@Takhisis: Never had the courage to try it.

And what is that ^^?

I guess not even a girl who has directly jumped out of the TV, escaping from "The Big Bang Theorey" would find that interesting .

No, I my irony detector is not broken, but preferred to answer in that way ^^.

Oh, great, but I don't the money to buy me such a woman ^^.

I don't belief tribesmen from Africa have that kind of money and still, one of them pulled it off :p
