Staying home, hope for the best, as everybody else. From my relatives only niece has to go to work, she is a doctor.
Putin shut down everything non-essential till the end of April. It will hurt economy, but we'll survive, we always do.

Yes, we know of course what's happening abroad.

Yep Russia has some advantages over the US, some disadvantages.

I watched this video, Sochi and the surrounding area looked great.

The adventure tourism looked very familiar. The Bungie jumps for example.

Sure enough he interviews a New Zealander who is running the company over there. See super secret tech exported;).

I'm guessing he has worked in Queenstown. It's around the 9:00 mark.

Huge amount of money were pumped there before Olympic games. From what I heard, resort is fancy but overpriced. Never been there.
For sea vacations, I usually go to Spain or Cuba. Choosing from Russian resorts, may be I'll go somewhere in Crimea next time.

My plan was for a 1 month visit.

SPB, Moscow, Volga cruise. Take me to a Russian restaurant (non tourist) I'll pay for dinner for you and family.

Convinced my sister in law to go, was working on wife, sister in law plus husband and my sister plus kids. 3-4 families plus kids.

This place was on the list.

Sochi sounds like Queenstown. Overpriced tourist trap.

If we're lucky (ie have jobs) Queenstown is going to be cheap to domestic tourists come summer. I don't expect international travel until next year minimum.

Everything from my childhood. Same uniform and neckties. Same chalk board, table with a hook for schoolbag.

Damn barely remember blackboards.

School switched to whiteboards 1988.

High school had some in the 1990's in the older classrooms.

You're old enough to have been a pioneer by 1991? Afaik kids could only become pioneers in third or fourth grade?

Yes.
It's end of 3-rd grade, 9-10 years old.
Although some of us continued to wear ties after 1991, just liked them.

Voltage here is roughly the same as Russia so in the 8Os I remember stories of Soviet sailors trying to get sewing machines to take home. Easy to rewire a plug and it works.

Soviet ship also sunk in the sounds, our family got a vial if oil from it as a souvenir.

Mum said something like "Be grateful you're not in Moscow they're lining up for food" when I complained about food. Boiled cabbage, spinach, mashed potato and mince stew bleah.

You just need to learn to wait.
To be calm and stubborn.
And get sometimes from life
Modest telegrams of happiness.

Hope is my compass on Earth.
And luck is a reward for bravery.
And song - just one is enough.
The one which is about home.

"Hope" (Lyrics - N. Dobronravov, Music - A. Pakhmutova), 1971

What does this mean! I think it's the title of the show in English Better Than Us

Yeah, it was decent.
Watched recently another TV series with same actors. Different story, post-apocalyptic road movie.
Moscow is hit by epidemic and the guy who played doctor in "Better than us", running away with his family, trying to find shelter up North.

Another movie, relevant to the current events.

Watching "Open Book" - biographical TV series about Soviet microbiologist and epidemiologist Zinaida Yermolyeva.
She was known for independent discovery of penicillin in USSR and organizing its mass production in 1943.
She also fought diphtheria and cholera in pre-war years.
During WW2 in 1942, infected herself with cholera to do experiments on herself and speed up research of drug desperately needed in army.
