ask a transman anything

What was your name when you were a woman? When did you realize you wanted to transition?

My name was Maritza Delcarmen Perdomo. I was born in Havana Cuba. I knew that I was different since around 3 -4 years old. I never felt like a girl. I decided 3 years ago, I couldnt continue this life the way I was.

Wow that takes alot of dedication. Is your wife straight or bisexual?

she likes both. But has never lived with a women. I guess she can be classified as bisexual.

Wait, so you went from Woman to Man or Man to Woman?

(sorry, I'm just confused and need to understand this before asking further questions  )

correct woman to man

I am wondering on reading a few documents on why Transexuals are oftenly faced with harsh violence and other Transphobias?

And a seperate question (I myself am not transphobic), in what ways can society minimize transphobia?

Did they reshape your body to look more manly?

Testosterone shots reshape your body. Plus I work out. Hormones change everything. If you go to my website www.bodiesunderconstructiononline.com

enter marks transition go to photo gallery you will see my transformation

Did you always feel your body was the "wrong" gender - a male mind trapped in a female body?

since the age of three I felt I was in the wrong body. My gender has always been the same, male. My sex, the physical components were wrong for my gender.

Gender and sex have two distinc meaning. Gender lies between your brain, sex between your legs.

Do you have sex with your wife?

Yes of coarse, very good sex. She doesnt complain. LOL

Do you have a high-pitched voice or has your voice gotten deeper?

(I hear some transsexuals's voice doesent change, even with hormones)

my voice is very deep. Testosterone deepens your voice. I sound just like any other guy.

I think through education. People fear what they dont know. They tend to discriminate and create violence. I believe the more transsexuals come out of the wood work, and show we are productive, normal and loving human beings, the less transphobia there will be.

Gender and sex have different meanings? I've always seen them be used interchangebly.

most people do, but they do not mean the same thing.

Mark, use quote tags and copy and paste the question so you dont have to do a new post for each question.

2 questions...since its actually the first time I really hear from someone going from female to male (its almost always male to female)

how much does it costed? that operation must be way more difficult than the male to female

is your wife lesbian? or met you thinking you were a man?

can we hve picture ? :) (just you not the genitals...)

Question 1: Could you post your picture in the Members Photo Thread? :)

Question 2: How did you find this place (Civfanatics Forum)?

Question 3: How did you find this place (Off-Topic Forum)?

I have a set of specific questions, and I assume that I'm not violating forum rules by having an academic discussion on the physical details of gender reassignment. (If I am, may I be the first to say that it is ridiculously silly since this isn't a discussion intended to be pornographic or obscene in any way.)

[1.] When did you have your gender reassignment surgery?

[2.] If you did not have the surgery recently, do you wish that you had done it when medical technology has improved the process?

[3.] How are the penis and testicles produced? Are they produced surgically from skin grafts, or is there something like a transplant?

[4.] Do the penis and testicles have sensitivity?

[5.] Are you able to produce semen and ejaculate like naturally-born males?

My final question may seem silly, but I have wondered about this from time to time.

[6.] Has your car insurance changed since you've legally changed your status from female to male? (For those unfamiliar, car insurance companies have utilized statistical data of male and female drivers and have adjusted their rates accordingly.)

I really do wish I had thought of asking this... :goodjob:

The surgery is much more complicated from female to male as far as the pluming is concern. There are several techniques and procedures. First, there is the breast removal, and reproductive organs removal
( hysterectomy) this runs anywhere from $30,000 to $40,000. Then you have the construction of the phallus. There are two techniques. One is called the Mateidoplasty ( they use the once clitoris that increases in size from the Testosterone use around 2 inches ) They release it, create a urethral lengthening so you can urinate from it, add two scrotums with silicone implants, whala you have a a juvenile, but functioning penis. This runs around $15,000 and up. Then there is the Phalloplasty. More complex, way expensive, not so funcitonal, hanging piece of sausage. Requires a pump for erection. Cost $150,000 and up. Now you have a not so functional penis, but looks big. LOL.

For the rest of our lives we have to be on testosterone which runs around $30.00 a month. So adding it all up it can be $200,000 plus.

My wife met me as a female, but I was a very masculine female at the time so she wasnt sure what I was. We became good friends, she fell in love with me, and went through my whole ordeal. She was married to a guy for 10 years and very unhappy. I have made her happy. I guess being born in a female body and understanding females has helped me understand her. You know the saying one is from venus the other from mars. I have been in both planets, and know my way around.

As far as the sexual preference of my wife, she has always had male relationships, and a curiosity about females. So I guess technically, she can be classified as bi curios. But that went down the drain, when I became a man. We have an awesome relationship.

One thing I want to point out, sexual preferance and gender identity are not the same. For instance, my sister is a lesbian, she doesnt like men, or want to be a man for that matter. There are many transsexuals that are bisexual, heterosexual or homosexual. All depending what your sexual preferances are. Gender identity is hard wired at 8 weeks in fetal stage, this dictates how you identify or see your self as.

Pictures sure. Go to my website: www.bodiesunderconstructiononline.com

Go to Marks Transition, a page I have dedicated towards education regarding transsexualism. Go to photo gallery, you will see my whole transformation, and pictures of my wife and I.

I hope I have answered all your questions

Mark, I presume you are in the US, judging from the website you linked for us.
What is the process like in there, who payed for your transformation and was there some requirements other than you just saying that you wanted it?
I presume the hormone treatment starts before surgery, how long before?
Did you have any problems due to the hormone treatment, increased aggressiveness, mood swings, anything like that?
At what point did you get your legal status changed?
I notice from the photos on the website that you used to dress quite feminine, any comment about that?
What is the average age for the op?

I'm guessing, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but the realisation and the decision to go for the op must have developed and matured over a long period. Before it was fully clear in your mind, what did you regard your sexuality to be?

And you look a lot better as a man than you did as a woman :goodjob:

Can one tell you're a transman by looking at you on the streets?

If so, what looks do you get?

Question 2: How did you find this place (Civfanatics Forum)?

Question 3: How did you find this place (Off-Topic Forum)?

1) As soon as I figure out where and how to post my picture I will in the meantime you can either go to my website: www.bodiesunderconstructiononline.com and enter marks transition or google my name Mark Angelo Cummings.

2) I found it on a forum that posts transsexual news, questions and such. I guess, with the forum, should transsexualims be allowed, or something like that. So I shimed in on the discussion. I also figured, it would be a good way for me to educate folks who where curious and had questions.

3) I decided to create a post ask a transman anything.

Mark Angelo

Mark, we did one of our English 101 essays about transexuals/homosexuals/bisexuals and the unecessary discrimination and phobia they face, and we did another essay about gender identity construction. I think it is nice that you can be so open about your views and your change. It is all beyond me though, I can not understand why a person would desire to change their sex. Yes, I know it is based upon hormonal concentrations and genetic make-up, but would you say there was any "nurture" involved in your decision at all, even the slightest?

1) December 22, 2003 Cleveland Clinic Hospital Weston Florida

2) It continues to improve, but it is not as advanced for female to male as is for male to female.

3) the scrotum is produce with the labia manora the outside lips, which are basically where the scrotums descend in natural born males. You see, we all start out as females until the 8 weeks period, where androgen produces the changes from female fetus to male. Everything looks the same until then. When the glands clitoris turns into the gland penis, the labia turns into scrotal sacs and so on. The labia becomes expanded with expanders for a few months, then they insert saline or silicone sacs. The penis is constructed by two ways. One through your own clitoris which enlarges with hormone use, just as it did in fetal stage. Or they remove a piece of ones arm, with vessels and all to create the phallus. I explained it in one of my earlier post. I chose the less complicated and more functional version. Mateidolplasty.

4) yes, very much so. I get erect and have full sensation.

5) cannot ejaculate since, I have no testicles. But I do have orgasms. Its wild, ever since I have transitioned, my orgasms are out of this world.

6) Car insurance stayed the same, health insurance has decreased.
