Ask a Turk

What about general Turkish opinion of Arabs? Do the groups get on well?

Well, image of Lawrence of Arabia is still vivid. Backstabbing at the worst time will not be forgotten easily I guess. But individually I have/had Arab friends they are cool guys who knows trade sooo well. There are not too much Arabs in Turkey but I don't thing they would spend too much time to adapt to our culture if they decide to live in Turkey.

As a person, would you prefer a Turkey more closely tied to secular Europe, or a Turkey that had better ties with the rest of the Islamic world?

Well, as a person I want Turkey to be like Switzerland, and in the long run a power of its own.

Please! I'm a Mediterranean type o' guy.

Here you go! From Antalya.

Wonderful. Thanks mate!

And I get stuck here in Illinois. :(

How many times a day do you eat Turkish Delight?

You are welcome. Are you living in Chicago, I mean it is damn cold there. Here is one more picture to warm you up ;)

Nay! I live in the Deep Southern part of the state it was 70 degrees here two days ago!

What do you think of Romania & romanians ?

I mean we buy a lot of contraband from Turkey, you gotta thank us for that at least. :p

In a generalised way, do you consider yourself Europeans or Asians?

What would be the main benefits for Turks, do you think, if Turkey was to join the EU?

Do you believe Turkey has a role to play inside the European Union, as such do you believe Turkey need a room as one of the major player to build the European Union. Yourself, would you be kin to use €uros.

If the awnswer to the first question is yes, what needs Turkey to do before?

I'll be honest with you, i never been to Turkey, beside its history, culture i've read in books and throughout my scholarity i don't know much about Turks. There is a Khebab Sandwicherie just below my appartment owned by Turks and they are cool. Thats all. :p

As for the Turkey and European Union, as an atheist, the persons and their arguments that point toward Turkey as a muslim country and as such says it canno't enter the EU because of it, doesn't hold water for me. However, from a geographic point of view, Turkey is in my opinion not part of the European Union. But you can prove me wrong. Some says religion is too big of a part in Turkish politics. But then, what about Poland?

If you have any questions regarding Turks or Turkey I would like to answer them,
and I hope some more turkish friends will join me.

yes i do ...its a question regarding my stolen sheep
i want them back

Actually, I want to visit lots of places but I have only been to 6 states so far. My friends told me University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign is worth a visit. What do you say do you have any recommendations for me?

I love Romania and Romanians, I had some friends they were cool and funny guys. Turks especially love Hagi, he is like a semi-god here ;)

I love you Hagi, i love you hagi....:D

It is sad that his coaching career is going not so smooth.

Central Asians to be precisely. I mean that's what we speak, and therefore what our core of culture. However, with Seljuk Empire our culture heavily mixed with Persian culture, art, literature and language. Then, all the people living in Anatolia. With Ottomans we got Byzantine culture, then all Slavic stuff.... this goes on.

Well, better infrastructure and some standardization in certain areas.

Well, I personally believe that Turkey should not join E.U. but should keep close economic ties with it. Also, as you know we are in the Customs Union already, so our products move freely inside EU.

Euro is poison. Look what it does to Italy, they are doomed because of it. What could be simple fix with Liret, can not be done if you are using Euros. It needs a very stupid ministry of economy to implement euro to an economy which heavily depend on its export competitiveness.

Religion is not a big part, actully it does not have a single part. What politicians does is using religion to label themselves as conservatives (like gay marriage and abortion. But in Turkey this is all economic: for example some people label them as secularist and win big money by staying close to secularist, same with nationalist or islamist.)
