Ask an Asperger

Questions in this post are bolded; I'd appreciate answers :)

I think I have AS to some extent, I didn't know that it was something medicated against. I was a lot more easy-going as a child so maybe that's why it was never noticed and I "slipped through".

Do people with AS usually have off-sounding voices? Not offensive, just wrong sounding...

I was also intrigued by the mention of sound quite a bit earlier in the thread. I too hate really high-pitched sounds, and the ticking of a clock while I try to get to sleep will drive me insane. (That leads me to another question, what is your sleeping pattern like?) But I think it's more of a sensitivity issue for me- if I like sounds or a music, the louder the better!

Have you had real bad experience with people ?
Many times.

Do people with AS usually have off-sounding voices?
I don't know, my voice is probably really hard to hear because I don't talk enough. Most days I don't talk at all.

what is your sleeping pattern like?
Ii don't know. I try to go to bed the same time everyday. In bed I lie there thinking about random fantasies. My bed isn't comfortable. I have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning.

I don't like noise, or loud things, but I can't avoid it. Everyone in my family is really loud, with televisions on most of the time. When I listen to things it's normally on a low volume. I put my computer on the lowest volume it can go to and it's sometimes too loud for me. I don't like high pitched noises, like television noise and things that scare animals away. Even at night I hear noise because I have tinnitus.

Why especially among huge crowds ?

They make me feel insecure, don't really know why. If there were only a few people or just significantly less, I wouldn't feel insecure.

Do people with AS usually have off-sounding voices?

Not that I know of.

what is your sleeping pattern like?

Quite regular. I always go to sleep either around 22 or 23 o'clock, and I always wake up around 7.00, even without an alarm clock. This, of cource, doesn't apply when daylight savings takes into effect, since then my sleeping pattern gets messed up and I get cranky because of it.

Look up savant. Basically w/o looking it up it is that thing that you are really good at.

An autistic savant (historically described as idiot savant) is an autistic person with Savant Syndrome [1]. Savant Syndrome describes people with both a severe developmental or mental handicap and extraordinary mental abilities not found in most people. The Savant Syndrome skills involve striking feats of memory and often include arithmetic calculation and sometimes art or music.

Why are there so many on CFC?

Being a nerd/geek is highly correlated to having Asperger's Syndrome, (though they are absolutely not the same) and people on the internet are likely to be nerds/geeks. Ergo, high amount of people with Asperger's Syndrome on the 'net.
