I don't really see what the fuss is about. Sure it's got porn and rude people, but I don't think the universal condemnation is deserved.

However the list of people they have offended is rather extensive...
Wiki says that it may have been Kimmo Alm, the owner of Anontalk.com, who has been spoofing the packets that caused AT&T to block the site. Alm has a history of email spamming, and his site, Anontalk, has a history of antagonizing the site in question.
