Atheism: Distrust and fears of disownment and disrespect, Why?

when they think atheism they think secularism, then they think because atheists hate religion in government they must hate religious people altogether.

When atheists want to change the way religion influences the US government they think they must be anti-US and therefore unpatriotic.

because Atheists don't believe in any gods religious people can't understand how someone without "the fear of god" could possibly be a trustworthy individual.

When I see atheists vocally complaining and challenging religion and want to wipe it out because they see it as some evil monolithic structure. I think of Militant Antitheist and Antireligious atheists

When I hear that atheists want to persecute Christians and the religious and give them forced brain surgeries. I think of Militant Antitheists and Antireligious atheists.

Then again, because I encounter atheists that are disrespectful and intolerant towards the religious and displaying behaviors that I see as Militant Antitheism gives me a lasting impression on atheists in general that I dont know.

I guess my case is different with the rest of the US since I dont see them as non-patriotic people and I don't associate atheism with the USSR (Even though it had a state atheism during the Stalinist period).

I was born in Europe and this is something I still can't explain. The U.S. is hardly a backwards nation, yet something like this..

how do YOU explain it?

I've always been under the impression Poland was still a very religious nation. How would an atheist politician be looked upon there?

If you own a small business in the middle of Bible Belt, you would not want to tell your customers you don't believe in God, because otherwise you would not have any customers.

There is a huge social pressure to pretend to be a Christian. I think when somebody finally gets out of closet, he/she is most likely to become one of those angry atheists hating everything Christian.

Business that put icthuses on their advisements sell well; you have to understand that even though I live in one of the most utterly conservative parts of the western world, Christians in the area still have the attitude as if they are constantly persecuted, and an atheist's sole existence is insulting. My uncle "came out of the closet" religiously and then moved to New Jersey. My family is just now opening back up to him.

I was also pretty resentful in my first months of godlessness. It's unbearable to listen to these kids, most of them hypocrites, go on and on at school about how they love God and how evil I am. I, however, don't really want to act like I'm "persecuted," there are just some total idiots around me. Most Christians at my school couldn't name three of the 10 Commandments with a Bible right in front of them. Just don't think, CG, that I wake up like, "O moan, poor persecuted atheist me!" It's not like that, I just stay in the closet in front of my family and church for everyone good, no one wins otherwise.

I suspect your militant atheism is just a frustrated rant from normal atheists that feel like their surrounded by people that think of them as a lesser being.

I hope you haven't made these opinions of nonreligious people from CivFanatics. The internet is a place for you to complain about your life, and tomorrow if a Christian makes me mad, maybe I'll come here and complain about how I hate all of them. What people post here is not always their intelligent opinions, but them letting off steam; if someone says that he hates all religious people online, that means nothing in real life; he's just venting.

If the religious people are disrespectful and intolerant to, what I call, non-hostile atheists (The ones that sees that people have a right to their beliefs and don't bother religious people). Yes, I have the same attitude because I see it as only making things worse by making more intolerant and disrespectful militant antitheist and antireligious atheists.

Reason being is that there is no end, The Militant Atheist will still bicker piss and moan to the religious people (Including the inocent bystanders who are tolerant and respectful by nature) and the religious people would give the same disrespect, distrust, and intolerance right back. Athiests (without the militant modifyer) are the ones who are typicaly tolerant and respectful towards other religious people and dont wish to rock the boat by boldly claming that God does not exist but insted that the atheist inquestion states his belief that he does not in his/her opinion find any reason to find that God does not exist and does not hold anything against the religious for believing in a god.

The Militant Atheist (Shortened from Militant Antitheist & Antireligious Atheist) are the ones who are looking for a fight against the religious and see religion as a bad concept that should be taken down and ignore the good in religion. Typicaly they will boldly claiming that God does not exist (In a disrespecful manner unlike the atheist's explanation of his beliefs) and that the religious person is irrational and stupid.
