Atheist subway ads in NYC

Yeah, I used to see plenty of Christian ads on the subways in NYC. Christian ads are common.

Here it's usually crazy sects (Mormons, JVs etc.) and American-style evange-somethings. I love these ads, they usually translate as "are you down at the moment? Have you had rough couple of months? Come to us, give us money and get brainwashed, you'll feel much better!" Lovely.

Religious TV commercials are not allowed in this country (I guess, because I've never seen one), so ads in mass transit vehicles, papers, leaflets etc. are pretty much the only way they can advertise. A friend of mine had 'abused' our local branch of the Mormon sect to practice his English for few weeks, until they figured out he wasn't going to convert :mischief:

Well I say targeting people (consumers) in expected places like subway stations in a large city like New York can produce increase in brand awareness (athiesm); however, one cannot say it will be infinitely sustainable since it is indeed only a one month campaign.

Sending missionaries to the Czech republic is one of the worst ideas I've heard of this week.

Sometimes I even feel sorry for them :D

I am surprised they didn't try to lobby the Ministry of Education to change the curriculum regarding the "civic education" (a subject taught in secondary schools). I still remember the many lessons we've been given about the dangers of religious cults - Mormons, Jehova's Witnesses, Moonists and others.

I still find it interesting that some places in Europe are more conservative in the US in considering religious groups like Scientologists, Jehova's, and Mormons as more like cults (though a fair number of USians don't consider the latter two Christian, but still religions).

To be fair, religion is a comfort to many. /da

Definitely considered as cults here. Well, in Czech we say "sekta" (sect), but the meaning of this word is closer to English "cult". It may have changed in the years since I've left secondary school, but we used to be warned about these cults a lot.

So is heroin, until the addiction costs you your money, family, friends and dignity.

This is New York we're talking about. The reaction will be that the immigrants will become entrenched in what they were taught to believe, the people living in the better part of Manhattan will find it "interesting" but too busy with their lives to care about it for more than ten seconds, and then a homeless person will sleep in it when that organization no longer has money and the ad is thrown away.

I'm not religious myself as I might have mentioned before, but growing up in a protestant home I have gotten the impression that many consider the christians that belong to churches younger than the European reformation churches from the 16th century, to be a bit strange. Catholic, Orthodox or any of the branches of protestantism that used to be a European state religions are normal. Those that came later(especially those from the US) are considered slightly weird.

But religion doesn't cost you your money, family, friends or dignity unless you allow it to.

"Hey, Father! Oh man that sermon was great! Could you just... ya know give me a little more?"
"Why certainly, my son! Please deposit $500 into this box here."
"But I don't got that kind of snatch! Couldn't I just get a little peak into next weeks sermon pleeeeease?"
"I'm afraid I cannot, my son. Now leave before I break your knee caps for not paying me for last weeks service!"

I find it humorous atheists are trying to proselytize.

Depends. Although all religions prey upon the weak, some are much more dangerous (say... scientology). Plus, being religious in this country is weird enough as it is, so if you join a cult like the ones I mentioned, you could just as well wear a T-shirt with "I am insane, stay away from me" written on it.
