Atheist subway ads in NYC

Seattle is the true seat of the Cadcadian Empire, Everett is merely a provincial capital.

While I agree Everett isn't an ideal place, if Cascadia is to encompass Alaska to California, it needs a seat of power in the middle of the region. Therefore Portland, OR must be the capitol!

Seattle is already the seat of the Starbucks Reich.

As this has demonstrated, it makes a good Imperial capital.

Hard to explain rationally where those Perfectly Normal Beast come from :yumyum:

^^ ninja'd on page one, though that was a somewhat different issue. But yes, overall these are pretty inocuous ads that aren't exactly targeted nor offensive towards any one group, though I agree with some posters who are expecting more fuss to be made in American news/media

Sounds exactly like that forum thread about the Christian banner hanging at the school fence.

Sounds like joyous fun for everyday living in America.

As long as they are no offensive like the ones in the UK or bashes religion. It's alright.

A million New Yorkers are atheist? Going to have to see their calculations and assumptions for that.

ICBM, That's detailed in the article in the OP, and doesn't say just atheist per se, but rather refers to that recent study on the "nonreligious."

Well, I am an Athiest, so that just leaves 999,999 New York atheist's to count.

I'm (somewhat) satisfied, but does "nonreligious" automatically mean "atheist"?

Yeah, but the posters supposedly say "without God" anyway - which could range from anything to non-Abrahamic from the way some people talk to what cardgame mentions.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Community residents are protesting a billboard they call offensive to Christians.

(...)

The members of the community cite two main problems: born-again Christians own the business right next to the sign, and the billboard is located right in the middle of an African-American community.

I was not aware that black = xian.

This is not the only protest. IIRC another atheist billboard was in California. That one came down. There was also a small metal sign outside a city hall in... Oregon? that was stolen. NYC is the exception, not the rule.

Still another reason to stay firmly in the atheist closet.

I wonder when there will be a movement against discrimination that is as powerful as the Gay right's movement.

I find it humorous atheists are trying to proselytize.
Ever been condescended to by somebody who finds out you aren't religious? Or belittled in public, at an official ceremony because you refused to swear on the Bible? I have, on both counts. It's not nice. It's quite unpleasant, actually.

I see nothing wrong with giving people a reminder that atheists have nothing to feel guilty about, or ashamed of, if they don't believe in a deity.
