Oddly, as a very mild myopiac, I found it more comfortable to put the 3-D glasses over my regular frames, perhaps because I'm used to wearing them. On a completely unrelated note, I saw a guy with a headset there. I spent most of the time before the movie started wondering "Why is there a blind guy at a 3D movie?

I saw it today with a friend. It was pretty cool.

Could be any number of reasons:
- It was a corporation doing the mining, not the government. Maybe they're not allowed to own nukes.
- It takes more than 6 years to get there. They had to work with whatever equipment they had to hand.
- Maybe irradiating the place would make it hard to work there.
- Maybe it would be crap if every space movie made from here on ended in 5 minutes because they used nukes.

Anyway, I've seen it for a second time and had a blast. If a movie is crap I tend to check the time to see how much is left. Avatar was 2 hours 40 minutes long and I didn't look at my watch once. I just couldn't take my eyes off the screen. XD

I'm seeing it again on Tuesday too.

Maybe the material is too volatile or sensitive to radiation? It will either be destroyed or rendered useless by a nuke, sort of like Naquadah/Naquadriah in Stargate.

I just use my contact lenses. Glasses over glasses typically doesn't work too well.

I wore the 3D specs over my glasses and didn't have any problems.

The movie didn't remind me of Iraq once. I didn't see any similarities.

The Movie in my opinion is one of the greatest movies I ever watched.

The 3D glasses I was given was kinda like Airplane Pilot goggles and they gave enough space for my glasses.

The movie didnt remind me of Iraq. Rather it reminded me of Colonial Europe and the American Natives for a 300 year period.

Ditto :D

I was going to see it again today, but my cinema was booked up for every showing. I'll have to see it tomorrow instead. :/

That's what I thought too.

A pretty well done movie but the story was not very interesting. Had it been done 10 years ago it would probably be engaging but now it felt unoriginal and very predictable. If I catch myself thinking about the technical stuff and parallels to other stories and settings throughout the movie, it's usually a bad sign.

I didn't expect much and the 3D was what made it just worth it. As an ordinary movie it's a 2/5. It was nice with the 3D effect but it also felt like the stuff were flat figures viewed at different distances, not real 3D, not sure if that's the case...

Yeah. In a certain way, the story is predictable. One cannot help but think of Pocahontas when they start to "notice" each other and other cliches here and there. You know for sure what the natives want and what the dick-wad of the soldier man is going to do, with just the right about of American Arrogance.

But, the world that the story created is in itself, original. The story is not terrible and when paired with the visual effects and the creative process of creating a new world that in a way is so similar to ours yet just so damn different.

I liked it.

There were a couple of stereotypes in the movie yes...

Didn't they just hook up to a night elf in WoW similar to how they did in the Matrix? And the Gaia-concept isn't exactly an original thought... As a whole it was ok, especially considering the 3D, but the only thing I didn't see coming was the
Spoiler :
robo knifefight at the end  . And what about the Toruk Macto... it only takes an american marine a few days what 5 generations of natives can't do :rolleyes:

I believe the world of Pandora was extensively researched for the movie. They even produced some sort of "Pandorapedia" describing the moon's ecology, biosphere etc. I don't think they just copied something from few computer games.

First time I watched a movie in IMAX 3D and had a great experience. Certainly better than 'normal' graphics. For the movie, some points come from my mind:

-The movie is predictable to the details, its annoying.
-The visual immersion totally compensates the bad plot. And the connection to the animals/ effective Gaia is a cool concept if done right.
-Dunno why the military IRL are not researching walker tanks, they're too much cool to be avoided.

I heard the Director's Cut or Extended Edition of Avatar would feature Timon and Pumbaa making a guest appearance to sing "Circle of Life". :p

Pocahontas 2?
You think that's sci-fi?

Saw it, loved it.

Because with the exception of being cool they have little value over other vehicles unless they are made far smaller, more responsive and more powerful than those seen in media like this/Matrix/Mech Wars. Think Starship Troopers, the book.

Just from the past 2 days at the Box Office it is obvious this film has legs. First it beat Sunday estimates by $4 million, then it did $16.4 million on a Monday. Only 2 movies did higher non holiday grosses, Dark Knight and POTC: Dead Man's Chest and both were in July had much larger openings and played in 1,000 more theatres (though the 3D ticket prices are higher). Both films also made more than $400 million domestically. I would be surprised at this point is Avatar didn't do the same. Even Transformers 2 made this much.

I think we still need one more leap in 3D technology. The new technology is so much better than before, I won't deny, but I think that getting a headache while watching, or not being able to appreciate the 3D for 30 minutes really does harm things.

They should put a 3D component into the commercials at the beginning, even if it's just a logo or something at the bottom of the screen. That would buy 10 minutes of adaptation.

When I saw it they did just that and had adverts using 3D before the film. By the time the film started I had no problems with the 3D (but didn't really notice having to adjust to it anyway), didn't get a headache and the glasses fit over my glasses with no problem. Some people obviously adjust quicker than others.

Does it annoy anyone else when people analyze a movie like this?

I mean, it's interesting and all, and if you're a fan of the film - it may be exciting that it is breaking records financially.. but all that just means that a lot of people are paying to see this thing - it doesn't speak anything at all about the actual quality or content of the film itself.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie and I enjoyed it - but when I see popular media discuss a movie that just came out, they are always saying stuff like: "It made $60 million in 3 days. WOW!"

Crocs were bought by millions too - doesn't mean they're any good.

Like.. is that just something that grabs a lot of people? "OMG, it's popular, I have to see it/get it/buy it too!". That doesn't really work on me. A lot of things that are popular are CRAP. Am I the only one here who doesn't care?
