AZ-06: Jolly Roger

First I would trade for Alphabet to see what other techs are available (probably not many). Since CoL has already been picked up by some AI during my turnset it's not that useful to lightbulb. Currency OTOH is rather cheap so also not worth it.

This being the case, I think settling him in our capital would be best. I usually settle my first GP if he is born early, it gives the best return in the long run.

To be honest, I think I'm leaning towards settling him too. CoL, and possibly even currency could be out there for the trading, and currency would be a reasonably fast tech to research.

We have time on our side. There isn't likely to be a significant war on us before astronomy, especially since we appear to be about half a world away from our nearest neighbors.

Additionally, settling the merchant will give us a bit more food to run specialists in the capital. Revolt to hereditary rule, run up some cheap military for the capital as necessary, and run what specialists we can. I think we will be able to run 6 specialists in time, depending on how many hills we want to work.

It would also be nice to build some grassland cottages in the capital to take advantage of bureaucracy, but we're going to get nailed by the health cap eventually.

Yeah, I say settle in the capital, research currency > col > civil service (minus anything you can trade for). The capital can build a temple, a market, and a bunch of cheap military for itself, while our other two cities can focus on building and/or whipping settlers.

Ordinarily I would settle him too, but the best thing about the GM is the +1 food and that's wasted on a coastal city. I vote Indibil's described trade/bulb.

That sounds really good Zargon. I have this weird aversion to settling GMs anywhere but decent but food-poor cities, but a settled capitol would be better than col/currency that much earlier. Settle it then?

Arright lads, quite an e'entful set this was.

Welcome t' the AD days and t' get the short picture let's just say we''e met another civ, know Monarchy and Currency, had our first great person born, done our first tech trade and resource trade, founded a 4th city and more importantly pro'ed that the world is round.

Full report:
T1-> We mo'e the missionary towards the nearest point t' West Island t' be ferried thar.

T2-> I could whip the forge at Upsala and the Library at Nidaros for two citizens each. Howe'er, them cities growin' means they're more producti'e so, after some ponderin', Me decide against.

T3-> Haithabu: Settler-> Workboat.

T4-> Cottage 1SE o' Nidaros ended. The worked is shifted t' forest 1SW o' Haithabu t' speed the Workboat buildin'.

T5->

We do meet another 'ictim t' be... err, Me mean neighbour in Louis XIV o' France, proud and arrogant founder o' Judaism, ruler o' a two cities kin'dom and with some tense diplomatic relations with Willem o' Orange.

Nidaros: Library->archer.
Nidaros ends the Library. Hire one sciencist. Start archer (in one turn) t' ferry him t' West Island for city garrisson (the Axe will fogbust north).

T6-> Nidaros completes the Archer. Darn, shiver me timbers! No Barracks, shiver me timbers! Set city t' produce them in 2 turns.
Nidaros: Archer->barracks.

RNG Gods can be cruel. 45% odds o' a Gengineer, 30% o' a Gprophet, 15% Gmerchant and 10% Sciencist. What do we get?

Yeah... a Merchant.

After some discussion with the rapscallions 's settled in Nidaros for the extra food and 6 coins per turn.

Frederick has learnt Aplhabet and is willin' t' part with it. Alphabet and Iron Workin' for Metal Castin' and Polyteism (looks quite decent t' me). We disco'er that Upsala has Iron in the desert hill.

We also trade him Pigs for Cows. No more Tech or resource trades a'ailable for now. Willem isn't willin' t' part with Code o' Laws and Isabella and Frederick hold Maths.

T7-> Research: Monarchy -> Currency in 8.
Re'olt t' Hr

T8-> Hinduism spreads t' Nidaros.
Taoism spreads t' Upsala (from Willem's lands)

All o' our trade routes shift from Portugal t' internal and t' Willem's lands.

Worker ends chop at Haithabu. Wb in 1.
Worker at Upsala roads the iron mine.
Nidaros: Barracks-> Archer (for Hr happiness)

T9-> Louis asks for Ob: denied.

We have sailed around the world!

Haithabu: Workboat-> Forge (we can slowbuild until reachin' happy trouble and then whip o'erdraft from Archers, same with Moai actually but that'll come later)

T10-> Isabella asks for Ob: Agreed.
Nidaros suffers a sla'e rebelion. Darned peasants, shiver me timbers! I choose the sensible solution (-10 gold, -1 pop, 1 turn disorder). We mo'e int' deficit research for this turn t' make up for the beakers lost in the rebellion.

Galley arri'es at new city location and lea'es Settler+axe, then mo'es t' main island and loads Archer + Missionary.

T11-> Set back research at 90% (at +1 gold surplus) for currency in 4.
Order restored in Nidaros. Birka founded. Archer and Missionary step in Birka. Axe mo'es north t' fogbust.

T12-> Missionary spreads Hinduism t' Birka. Nidaros grows t' 8.

T13-> Nidaros keeps buildin' military as tis' growin' like mad.
Upsala: Forge -> Library.
Northern worker ferried int' galley t' mo'e him t' West Island.

T14-> Nidaros grows t' 9, Archer – Settler in 4 turns for 5th city. Gprophet born in Amsterdaam.
Stagnate Upsala by workin' Iron mine (we need the hammers t' build some infrastructure and the city already has hit health limit.

Harditary Rule's happiness builds help us stay in touch with regards t' power with other Ci's.

T15-> Research: Currency - > Code o' Laws (no beakers in'ested and can be changed) +16 commerce kick in.

Willem asks for Theology + 80g for the knowledge o' Mathematics. I think not, shiver me timbers! Thar's 3 Ci's willin' t' trade it and I'm sure we can get a better deal out thar.

Damn, shiver me timbers! :smoke: I realise I''e forgotten t' ferry the worker t' West Island by settin' the galley on a 3 turns exploratory detour t' the Sw Island. That's what happens when you play a round in 4 sittin's.

General thoughts: Willem has surpassed Frederick as threat #1 Imho. He's tecchin' well and goin' for the Great Library if he doesn't have it already.

Louis is mad at him and Me wouldn't discard a war goin' on between them, though Me ha'en't found a way t' access Louis lands yet.

Willem's lands be mapped and Me do belie'e explorin' workboats can focus on mappin' Islands now.

For my turnset, I'll probably just focus on expanding as fast as possible.

Just so I don't go and do something silly, why did you deny OB to Louis?

Gut feeling. Dunno really.

But I have the feeling he's going to start a war soon. On top of this, he's backward, little and has a different religion than Willem.

I didn't want a 'you traded with our worst enemies' from Willem once the war is started.

ah, I see their relative positions now. That makes sense. We would get better trade routes from other AIs anyways.

Ahoy, ah hah. Tis' not punctuation, tis' double spaces that owns the pirate translator.

....

enter enter enter....

turn 2: I'm about t' start choppin' the monument in Birka, trade alphabet t' Joao for math. Joao hasn't made any enemies yet, so Me figure tis' safe, and a reasonable deal, since most e'erybody else has it already.

turn 3: lizzy shows up.

turn 4: Col in, Cs next. Uppsala got another border pop, which means the spear can go home t' the capital now t' help make the citizenry happy at stickpoint.

turn 6: finished choppin' the monument in Birka, picked granary next.

turn 7: Birka's borders popped unexpectedly. Oh yeah. Religion does that. Me mourn the loss o' those monument hammers. Our pirate wimmin been makin' lots o' little pirates

turn 8: Joao comes extortin' monarchy out o' us. I'm not particularly worried about him, but Me decide t' cough it up. At least one other has monarchy at this point, and Me won't piss off anybody else by tradin' with him.

In other news, the temple o' artemis and the pyramids fall this turn.

In other other news, our Haithabu grows int' unhappiness, so I decide t' sol'e that problem by beatin' the forge out o' them.

turn 9: Bjorg'in founded. I pick granary as I'm hopin' t' start puttin' out missionaries from the capital soon, and the city will do fine for a while with just tis' first rin'.

enter enter enter...

turn 12: William offers crabs for clams. I take it.

turn 13: picked up a scout from a goody hut.

turn 14: Cs in, and.... Me picked aesthetics, but I'm coppin' out and stoppin' har.

Decisions t' be made and acted on in the initial turn o' the next set:
1) Ci'ics change. Bureaucracy ob'iously, and probably Organized religion t' piggyback. But if we want Theocracy instead, speak now.
2) Next tech. Me don't do the long term plannin' thin', and o' all the techs we can do next, Me guessed we want aesthetics > literature, but who knows.
3) Me have a settler waitin' t' load ont' a galley with an archer already on the galley. I'm 95% sure we want t' send them two islands east, and 90% sure we want t' settle on the hill that grabs the wheat + fish.

Other immediate stuff:
4) We''e got a great person comin' in 3 turns. Scientist 37%, Prophet 26%, merchant 25%, engineer 13%

A pence for an old man o'de sea?

What's this refitting of our triremes thingie I see on the screenies? Free promotion? If so it could be worth popping some to upgrade them later to caravels keeping this promotion.

Ah, yes. I thought I got a good screenshot of that, but I guess not. triremes got a free combat 1 promotion. Honestly, I don't think it's worth slowing the research machine to get a few combat 1 caravels.

I looked at trading for aesthetics, but we would have to trade currency to the top AI, William for it. That just doesn't seem like a good idea. Two other civs have it, but won't trade it.

I'd rather research it ourselves than fork over currency to William, unless we want to take a shot at the great library, and think it's necessary.

Ah yeah. There's the music race to consider too. Ok. I could be on board for trading for aesthetics.

royally pissed off about the rugby. ah well, life goes on...

to that end, i won't play until tomorrow.

this hasn't been my weekend, not one little bit. first the rugby then the F1, bloody hell, will england ever win anything? i will play tomorrow morning unless you guys are more pissed off with my time wasting than i am with sports results.
