Babe, Hunk and Similar Threads

Doesn't civfanatics have a new host now? Does the new host also not allow such posts?

We still have Google Ads, so Google would complain. The fact that Google allows you to search for porn of various -frankly horrifying- types does not make them hypocritical at all.

Maintaining the same standards in Ads as in Search would take an astronomical reworking of their systems. Profits in NSFW advertising are not nearly enough to justify such an undertaking. Easier and far cheaper to just disallow it.

Because websites attempt to circumvent the rules and the auto-filter doesn't catch everything. It takes a while for them to manually review cases. When they get discovered, the website in question suffers for it in terms of Google search results and the owner of the ad code usually gets permanently banned from that area of Google services.

Since Thunderfall has already undergone a warning for the content, instating the ban was a necessity to safeguard the forum from being banned from AdSense. This would be a big problem if the host was in control of the ads (being dropped by a host service would be catastrophic for a forum of this size) and an even bigger problem if Thunderfall is the one holding the keys as that would completely remove the potential of AdSense revenue for CFC unless he relinquished control to someone else.

Better safe than sorry. Why cater to a very small group of people who want to look at hot girls when there's so much on the line? This is coming from a guy who used to post frequently in the older babe threads, I'm no stranger to the concept or to participating in the threads. That said, it's not an important part of the forum and I'd rather this forum be self-sustaining than see attractive women.

The FHM (For Him Magazine) sites are using AdSense and are clearly violating the ToS.

The rules on this site were already strict when posting pictures in those threads.
So, it's either a double standard by Google or something else is going on.

Google indulges itself with double, triple, quadruple, and ad infinitum multiple standards, but they still make the only search engine worth my time.

Principles are one thing. Fast access to cat videos are another!

Ah man if only there were other places on the internet to find pictures of babes and hunks.

Its primary value was to show what sorts of posters posted what types of babe pics. Turns out there was a lot of predictability.

Do they? I had a look and deactivated my uBlock but couldn't find any ads serviced by Google AdSense. They have ads that come from DoubleClick which is owned by Google but is a separate service from AdSense. Think of DoubleClick as the premium version of a free anti-virus, or really just about any type of software. The premium is, of course, better, but comes at a "price".

In this case, DoubleClick requires the website to meet certain conditions and also needs a professional (or team of professionals) to properly set it up. Thunderfall could poke at it himself but the primary purpose of DoubleClick is to maximize ad revenue which needs an in-depth analysis of the site and how certain ads do on certain sections of the forum. I'm also not sure if DoubleClick has eligibility requirements for forums as it seems to focus on large publishers which I don't think CFC qualifies as.

DoubleClick has the functionality I referred to in a previous post: you can block certain ads and decide what gets shown on a case-by-case basis. You also gain access to advertisers who don't operate through AdSense and may have less restrictions about NSFW content than their algorithmic counterparts. AdSense is operated almost entirely through the use of filters and algorithms, with human eyes being a distant and often forgotten aspect of the review process. It can take literal years before your site comes up for review, and an appeals process if you get burned can take a similar amount of time. Having CFC get barred from showing AdSense ads would either require Thunderfall to find another ad service (which is rather difficult to feasibly do) or to appeal the decision which would result in probably a minimum of 6 months with no ad revenue for a website that has rather high upkeep costs.

I personally don't want to see the forum close up shop or start relying on a donation model simply because someone was a little enthusiastic about their physical tastes in the opposite/same sex and CFC just happened to trip the filter one too many times or found itself at the front of the line for a human review.

Don't you dare say such things about the City!

Like Google advanced Image Search, to get it down to you exact detailed preferences? Surely Google's scruples would not permit that.

‘Advanced’?

Which, ähm, keywords would one use, if one were to allocate such detailed preferences?

Purely an academic question, I assure you.
