BABE resigning?

I've tried to maintain a bit of composure in the UN, I'm hoping the tempers cool soon.

Yeah. What a strange way to react to a failed invasion plan - I mean, did they really think that Saber was going to let them walk onto their island? That's just insane. Babe would have tried to do the exact same thing if the situation was reversed. Frankly, I think that anyone on Babe who really believes the map is 'broken', or not fun, or whatever, should leave the game. That's not the sort of guys we want to be playing with :)

To sum up what I see as BABE's position, allow me to quote from my fellow Councillor's signiture: "It's only a game if you win, but if you lose it's a stinking waste of time."

:rotfl:

Yeah, it seems to me that they had a plan on how to advance and invade.
Then this plan was countered by SABER and this pissed BABE off.
It does not mean that the map was broken imo.
Blockades could be put up by quicker acting and thinking adversaries.
And blockades can also be broken and fought down.

Imo, changes of plans is what happens in any game, and you have to adapt to the changing environments. Crying out about broken maps smacks of sour grapes imo.

The trouble is, if they continue to play (and are smart) they will come after either us or FREE. Our only deterrent will be the threat of blocking our coast. I'm not sure we can actually do it in time.

Well, that is better than them just quitting the game.

I am sensing a lot of sour grapes from BABE and am actually a bit let down that players of their caliber had no plan B.
The "broken map" and "blockade exploit" cries sounds like very fitting escape routes for them.

well, it was always a risk that they would come after us once they were blocked by SABER.

And I'm not sure that BABE would have blocked their coasts... but then, they could pretty easily wipe out an invasion force with MW. I know I would welcome a chance to beat the hell out of an invader and kick off a GA, if I had MW.

I tried to keep a bit of decensy before I exactly knew what was going on, but when I heard it was actually because saber blocked their coast...

Simply ridiculous!

Anyway, maybe we could have some sort of 'reversed refugee plan' here. Several members of all teams form a new Team Babe, together with the babes that do want to stay in the game.

Well, maybe team free wouldn't have to donate any members as they are already suffering lack of participation, but maybe the other teams have spare members.

Or even better would be to attract new members who haven't ever joined a mtdg.

It would be simpler to recruit new Babes - after all, if I went onto Babe's team, I'd have knowledge of what had been discussed in The Council's private forum, and it's not reasonable to think that I could ignore what I had read.

But hopefully this won't be necessary - I imagine that in a couple of days, some of the better players will realize how silly it is to drop out of a game simply because another team outsmarted you. Tho' I must say, if Babe didn't forsee a possible blockade, they aren't all that skilled after all :D

According to another PM from Wotan, after I sent him a "Thank you for playing on", they were really sure that we would have agreed with them, and were quite taken aback that we all didn't. He intends to play on, and do the best of the situation. He also told us to go down to the beach and watch the boat parade... :scared:

With all the tempers flareing (hope no friends where lost) this is giving us a chance to guage the other teams and even the map. Hopefully this analysis will not go to waste  .

First the map:

This map (like the previous one) still has some secrets, surprises and treats for you all. If sufficient teams dislike the turtling team(s) than it should not be difficult to get to marines soon enough. Besides that, there are so many coastal-tiles for each continent that to own sufficient blockaders will harm a Civ more than it will gain in protection. Especially if those blockaders need to be strong enough to withstand Marines. Turtling in isn't going to win a team the game. Aggressiveness and Cooperation (Diplomacy) is.

I take this to mean one of two things, there are other islands of strategic value easier (easier routes maybe) in the world that have not been found (doesn't have to be us). Or the more likely a resourse that we need (saltpeter, coal, rubber, oil) will be on the islands and not on the mainland. I think its the second situation because this will prevent "turtlers" from getting these resourses and limit their military so that others with marines and planes can easily knock out any of these teams. Also have a feeling there are going to be limited resourses on these islands adding the aggressiveness and cooperation line.

Now for the other teams:

BABE:
I think we had a picture even before this thread was created of their plans but this just shows their all or nothing strategy. I don't think everyone on their team will quit based on this.

As of right now there's two players willing to continue on and one based on a contingency.

I guess the good news is we don't have to worry about the Great Library boasting BABE quite yet.

FREE:
Nothing interesting.

SABER:
It sounds like they got most of their coast blocked (to the point you can't land in one turn). I dought they have their entire coast blocked but I won't hold anything past Chamnix.

Just for the record, a picture from the last MTDG:

Now yes, we were much later in the game at that point, but the Doughnuts did make MIA wait until we got to marines - apparently they didn't feel blockading as much of the coast as possible was an exploit then.

Further just for the record I was the one that built most of that blockade :mischief: .

GONG:
Even GONG is against BABE doing this, they might not be as close as we thought in that there might not be a BABE/GONG military alliance.

I would like to ask everyone not to give away too much in the UN, I'm sure there is someone like me on every team. No offense but if I was on BABE team and read Niklas scarcastic post about no one else having blockades I would turn all the ships towards us being the closest target.

EDIT: Looks like the crisis is over

Woah – that about cinches their invasion decision then.

We must make an all out run for defenses now if we hope to block their landing (or fight it off, if they are able to land).

We'll also want to notify Saber and FREE that we expect to need their monetary aid very soon.

Good intel Niklas!

EDIT: and good analysis there dl123654! I agree with all your conclusions.

Well, he could also just want to give us the shivers, and he did put a ;) after it. ;)

I think we should take it easy for at least another turn, after all SABER should be able to tell us what the ships do. If they all head in our direction, then we can start preparing.

we have peace until turn 129. I don't see them breaking their word. In any case, not much we can do anymore if they head straight for us...

Good news!

But all that self-righteous moaning from FREE was not very impressive.

Anyway, onwards and to arms!

I hope no one is upset that I've spoken up for letting BABE quit in the UN. In my experience, when you force a spoiled brat to keep playing, they can always find a way to ruin things for everyone.

I'm pretty tired of the nonsense about a tactic that thwarts your plans being "unfun" – this is no different than saying "anything that makes me lose is unfun"… if winning is the standard of "fun" BABE should be playing the AI… not crafty human opponents. [/rant]

Anyway – there's no point in continuing to badger team BABE that I can see. But I'd rather have them quit than play on and try to make things miserable for everyone else.

Note: I will not be posting anything near this rant in the UN… it's just not helpful. BABE is clearly beyond listening.

I've had the same thoughts myself, but I honestly believe Wotan when he says he will play on and do the best of it (I'd post his PM, but it's in the language of "glory and heroes" ;)).

Also, if the land would be left for grabs, GONG and SABER are closer to that land than us and FREE. It would be more fair to make that land off-limits to everyone.

I have to say... I'm a little disappointed in the size of BABE's attack force.
10 galleys? maybe 15 MW and 5 spears? Were I SABER, I might let them land, get some war happiness and wipe 'em out. or let 'em land and just wipe 'em out and screw BABE over completely.

I dunno - I would tend to expect a force twice that size by now... maybe I'm overestimating, I dunno.

@General_W: I agree completely.

Actually, I'd almost prefer to see some Babes walk away at this point. If there are a couple people still there to handle things, that would be best.

If no one's left, then the remaining 4 teams would be free to decide how we wanted to proceed with our game. Frankly, I'm still in shock that some of the Babe members behaved this way.

After posting my hope that we would be attacking BABE one day, Wotan hung another sword over our game:

If the fighting intensifies, he will stop playing. :wallbash:

[pissed]Man, I hate that!! That's why I once started computer gaming, because you wre not relying to get others to play with you...

I'm close to joining team BABE just to play this one to the end... :hmm:
Of course you guys then would have to face a severe GLET threat... :D

Can't we find any destructive guy on the road to play this one to a honorable end? I'd even put five bucks in a hat for that!

I've posted a UN discussion about BABE retiring. I hope my post was civil and leads to some productive discussion about this situation. In any event, we should build our frigates and take away BABE's war happiness.

I've lost a lot of respect for Wotan over this whole thing.

"I'm bored and I don't feel like playing"

Actually - he's not at all alone in this. There are many Babes who are very active in other arenas who just don't feel like playing this out. It's not very mature to sign up for a team game, and then drop out because you're not winning.

[/rant]

I've posted some of my more constructive thoughts in the UN thread.
