Bakuel's Indian units

Another update; today's pack is very large and has some of the most spectacular units Bakuel made for India. These are most suitable for medieval roster of India proper, since these are north Indian Hindu states.

Many of the models are used for more than one role, but since most roles have more than one model, you can have freedom of choice and a unique-looking figure for each of them.

The units look beautiful. It's a pity they weren't around when I was still modding Civ4.

Care to make a comeback? ;)

Unfortunately I've already converted to Crusader Kings II modding. So I guess I did make a modding comeback... just not with Civ4. :p

Anyhow, do you have anymore treasures from Bakuel that haven't been released yet? Though I'm a retired modder now, I still like to admire the work the remaining Civ4 modders are still doing.

Oh! You were the creator (or rather a certain Bakuel showing no signs here) of the set of indian textures. Great job. I like the indian nation in PIE's mod and I really like how the indians looked different and unique.

Everyone is talking about Real I. I should try that mod one time.

As I said, regarding Bakuel's India, there is exactly one pack left, and I'll likely release it this evening (didn't have enough time in the morning to make a decent preview). After that, it's up to Bakuel himself to suddenly come back and start releasing stuff again. :)

As I wrote in the first post, I take no credit for those at all. I admit that I was among the people who pressured Bakuel to create an Indian set, and thus he sent it to me before releasing it. My own work is confined to RI - while I dabble with textures and stuff, and I have created some units, I happily admit they are all sub-par to Bakuel's work.

As far as RI is concerned - you're welcome to try it out! We haven't had a major release in a while, but we're still going strong, and as soon as one game-stopper is dealt with, we will release a new major version. Or you could check out an almost-final one from our Subversion repository, a favored method of keeping stuff for many major mods.

Ah, I see. Well, who knows. He might re-emerge one day. Who knows.

And thanks for uploading these in the meanwhile, I'm pretty sure the current generation of Civ4 modders can make good use of the stuff from the older generations like Bakuel (and me).

All of these units are wonderful, it's amazing how perfectly Bakuel made them...
Btw Walter, did you hear anything back from him since you started the thread?
I know he is up on CFC reasonably often, but AFAIK didn't posted/responded to anything

I certainly have, and at least I can tell you that he is alive and well. But if he wants to come back, he'll have to announce that himself, not through me. :)

In other news, the last pack, containing various war elephants, was just uploaded. No more units left!

Indeed, it is his choice. I was basically gone for a year before I decided to go back and officially announce my retirement from Civ4 modding. Other modders decide they don't need to. It's the modder's choice, but I do wish to hear something from Bakuel.

The last units of Bakuel to ever grace Civ4 modding.

:salute:

It's been an honour.

dear mr. hawkwood

thank you again for making this artwork available. i suspect, like me, your mod direction is pretty much led by the available artwork, so new stuff is always welcome: plus it's a 1000 times better executed than i am capable of

i did knock up a flavour set of chonek/tehuelche units if you decide to release a new RI mod; i enjoyed it a lot.

Great to hear!

I wouldn't be so sure ;)

Your comment turned to be strangely prophetic, yet I bet not in the way you meant it. I discovered that I actually had all the rest of Great People for India as well, so I uploaded yet another pack containing merchants, artists and engineers.

We're still working on RI, so yes, we will release again. Moreover, we have a Patagonian minor civ in our World Maps, so I'd be quite interested in seeing those units uploaded to the database.

Indeed. Now let's hope it will also turn to be prophetic in the way I meant it ;)

I fell in love with these units when I first saw them and suddenly had visions of a Mughal Empire and Indochina mod for Civ4Col, is there any advice you might give on how to convert them to use in Colonization? I have had poor success in the past importing Civ4 custom units into Colonization, but these units are so beautifully done that I want to see them in Civ4Col :D
