And, what did you think of the movie?

As expected for the most part.
Spoiler :

Poking fun at life in 'barbie land'. Preachy about 'you can be anything you want to be' and 'accepting yourself for who you are'. Over the top 'change in mentality' of the old men in suits.

Based on recent Netflix movies I watched, I was expecting Barbie to end up lesbian or Ken gay, but neither happened...many of the Kens had non-alpha male traits, but kind of expected since they are dolls and play dress-up all day, and they seemed to still have interest in only women.

We went this afternoon - the kids were complaining that we hadn't done anything this summer, so we went to the movies, and that was the only thing remotely interesting. There were about 10 people, total, in the theater. The movie was great. My daughter has already written and posted a Barbie fanfic.

Be interesting to see what you think.
It was a really bad idea to go from the profound emotional destruction of Oppenheimer to a theatre full of excited girls.

A week ago, I would have said Barbie. After learning that it's the worst kind of pseudo-feminist, misandrist propaganda, I think I'd rather suffer through Oppenheimer. But I won't see either in theaters.

Dare I ask where you learned that from?

Seeing a bunch of "the usual suspects" say this movie is terrible and woke propaganda is actually the greatest endorsement to watch the film I can imagine. So I watched it and it was good.

Yeah I've only seen a fraction of youtube thumbnails making themselves look foolish.

I totally didn't buy into the whole Oppenbarbie hoopla or whatever has been happening. It seems weird to me that everyone bought into this marketing campaign. I guess the Don Drapers that made this happen know what they're doing

Oppenheimer seems fascinating, I will def. watch that when it's streaming.

WOW!
You guys are really doing this?
Going to the theater and paying and watching?
Giving your soul to Wollywood?
WOW!

Not very often wait for streaming.
Still.
Don't you fear the intrusion of those "ideas" in your mind?

I have avoided almost all "fictions" coming from the "majors" in the past 20 years and I think I would be a very different person otherwise :eek2:

Think I'm big enough and ugly enough to be safe from brainwashing.

It wasn't really the marketing campaign that convinced me as much as it was everyone else talking about Barbie (both before and after it actually came out) that made me curious enough about it that I decided I had to see it.

I hadn't been to the theater in years. Wanted to go the week before, just as something different to do. But at that time, only Indiana Jones was close to ok for my kids to watch (compared to the other two films available), and kids weren't really interested in that, so we went bowling instead. Then the next week, daughter wanted to see Barbie, so we went. Son was only 'boy' in theater, will have to see a movie he wants next, maybe TMNT.
