If I remember correctly, the "English" still spoke French and viewed England as a tax-base for their richer continental holdings.

To be precise, the aristocracy and upper class spoke French, though by the time of the CYW most probably spoke it as a second language*. Henry IV was the last monarch who spoke French as his first language.

It was a war between english who controled some french land against the true french.

Souliotes didnt spoke greek but had greek identity and fought even more bravely, in the greek war of indepedence, than greek speaking greeks. Language alone doesnt create an identity.

You don't know who the House of Plantagenet is, do you?

Who are those guys?

Well, that explains a lot.

I learned at high school that this was a war between england and france.

Rule of thumb: Everything you learned in high school about history has been simplified tenfold. (Only simplified fivefold for college credit classes.)

The House of Plantagenet were the descendants of William the Conqueror, who held more land in 'France' then the Valois, both of whom were fighting over who gets the Crown of France after the Capetians lost it.

Okey. Also we learn for one year every 3 years how the byzantine empire became a greek empire.

Given that the Byzantine Empire was the Roman Empire, I don't see how you can turn that into a Greek Empire. Even under Constantine XI, the Medieval Romans maintained a line of sucession going back to Ceasar (with the inevitable civil wars and dynastic changes).

It was hellenized. The greek culture took oevr the byzantine empire and maked a greek empire. See my 2 posts in the first page.

period intellectuals certainly thought it was a Greek Empire

Westerners generally called them "Greeks" if they wanted to piss them off, too

stupid argument anyway, the fact that "Roman" isn't an ethnic nationalistic construct (and never was) and "Greek" is (and always has been) should preclude any real argument - they were clearly both

Not quite, 1/3 is simplified tenfold, 1/3 is repeating ideas that were rejected by historians decades before the text was written, and the rest is nationalistic BS.

Eh. To work, it would've needed help from Greeks, at least temporarily.
I was just joking about the fact that insane Greek nationalism is somewhat circumvented if we say the Western Empire was the best Rome, what with the lack of Greece and all.

Ah, but the Muslims called them Romans. :p

Am I the only one wondering why Christos is laughing hysterically about people's "mistaken apprehensions" concerning the HYW when he doesn't even know who the Plantangenets were to be distinctly laughable or is that just the elephant in the room?

Dude is a nationalist fan-boi for a state that's about to be reduced to join with such exalted company as Somalia in terms of its economic and political competence, I'm still trying to figure out how nationalism can even function under such conditions.

Don't worry, the Plantagenets are just a Fyromian conspiracy to steal Greek culture..... Somehow.
