You might recall an older thread on almost the same issue, but that one only dealt with swordfighters, and some other notables were missing (eg Khal Drogo) ;)

As before the thread focuses on people who can still fight in the start of the series, so there are no long dead characters.

So this is an updated poll...

The question is:

'Who is the best warrior in the Game of Thrones setting'?

Options are:

1) Oberyn Martell

2) Khal Drogo

3) Jaime Lannister

4) Bronn

5) Ned Stark

6) Sandor (the hound) Clegane

7) Gregor (the mountain) Clegane

8) Brienne of Tarth

9) Syrio Forel (Arya's dancing teacher)

10) Barristan Selmy

11) Jon Snow

12) other

I am voting for Oberyn, cause he was the coolest character in the series ;) I suppose that in 1 to 1 combat Khal Drogo might have been better, though. At least if he can use throwing knives as well.

^At least in the series it seemed obvious that Oberyn could 'easily' kill the mountain (and pretty much did; he just wanted to use slowly coming into effect poison), so i doubt the mountain is a better fighter.
Furthermore Drogo likely would just throw some knife to the mountain's eye once he got his helmet to fall ;)

I got news for you. The better fighter is the one still alive at the end of the duel regardless of skill.

And I'm not entirely sure a knife to the eye would stop the Mountain.

but did the Mountain really survive it as well....?

I'm going with Barristan the Bold....a warrior that grows that old must be a good warrior

Ayna Stark. Especially if you're on her list.

Spoiler :
Serious answer: Brienne, the Femshep of the old-timey world.

He's currently my favourite character who's still alive - the ones I like have a nasty habit of being killed off.

Chances are he won't survive the next book or two.. ;)

^The Hound even lost (only in the series, of course) to Brienne, so i doubt he could defeat Oberyn. :)

He also managed to fight Gregor to a draw whereas Oberyn got his head restructured by him. The Brienne v Hound find is hard to judge since he had a horribly infected injury he was fighting with.

It has to be Barristan. I really wanted to vote for Jaime (my favorite character in the books), but after
Spoiler :
he lost his hand
he kinda sucks.

I'd put my gold on Syrio any day!
Spoiler :
Were I'm at in the books he's still very much presumed dead but I'm hoping for a comeback. No spoilers plz!

We never ever actually see Barriston fight though (at least not in TV which is my judgement), right now he is all reputation without actual results.
