Best YouTube playthroughs?

Thx for that information.

Unfortunately, if those settings are pure-handicaps and if there are easier versions of CIV available (in this case Vanilla and BtS) I must decline, because it just wouldn't make sense to compete against others while playing with a Handicap in CIV.

I remember that map, because I've played it numerous times already, and I remember that it is one of the most beautiful mapscripts in whole CIV. Very many resources, very nice Rivers a.s.o.
Actually my fastest Cultural Victories I played all on that mapscript.

Countering the mechanics of Vanilla, I will have to anyhow because of those 2 Space-Races I still need, I'll keep in mind to record a video about that too. Will be very interesting probably, I already heard things like +50% GA-length and not having Espionage should actually be well counterable by going for full research. I already red of some really "funny" things like Cavalries with Military Tradition and Grens with Chemistry or so, so I might think about that for the game after the Boreal map which I've currently set up.

I can remember immediately several differences. Some time ago I tested these versions and looked for differences pretty much. Despite Cavs with MT and Grens with Chemistry:

in Vanilla - Cavs (or only Cossaks) have strength 18.
in both - creative trait doesn't speed libraries (at least before 2.13)
in both - golden ages require not 1->2->3 GP but something like 1 (2?) -> 2 -> 2 -> 2 (3?). During golden ages you cannot switch civics without anarchy and you don't have 100% to speed of generation of GP. So, in general golden ages are not that strong, and on the other hand Spirital trait is much stronger. I'm not sure about the length of golden age (just forgot)
in Vanilla - financial trait gives double speed to banks
in Vanilla - trade routs gives more commerce. Something like +10-12 for in cities of size 20. So, food economy quite good
in Warlords - Great Wall cost 250 hammers and gives GE points (and there is no GW in Vanilla)
in Warlords - expansive trait doesn't boost workers in 2.08, but boost them 50% in 2.13
in both - I heard that early rushes are effective
in both - State property doesn't give 10% to production, Caste system doesn't give hammer for workshops
in both - there is no AP

Good luck with those Space Races and new records!

Why I remembered Inland Sea - it was a first map I played. And then I tried it foolishly beat at Deity in Warlords  But it was so insane (kind of Sid in Civ3). After a break I started to play at Deity BTS on Pangea and it found out to be easier. At least now I see a direction how to beat Deity by conquest and where I should go. Many thanks to youtube and all these guys you mentioned above :goodjob:

Pre- Bts for Space Colony race you can try Korea:
- UU Hwacha - sieges can kill units in Warlords, not only weaken them and you can easily kill some civs with hwachas + 1-3 spears for antiHA
- Seowon + financial windmills spam with environmentalism on global highland (?)

Ragnar space race on medium /small can also be good (quicker expansion because of amphibious attacks and +1 water units movement, thanutilize finiancial seas)

IIRC if your vassals don't like you in Warlords they will be unwilling to trade with you!! I think WFYABTA also applies with vassals. So you can tell them what to research, but they might refuse to trade it :suicide:

I think GP-triggered Golden Ages cost (2 GP) -> (3 GP) -> (4 GP)... so VERY expensive (plus the differences RedKi-rr mentioned)

Watched the first hour of Seraiel's video before going to work this morning. Great stuff, and you explain things well. However, could you lower the music and turn on resource bubbles for your next video, please?

1) Music. By having it lower it would be easier to follow what you are saying. There were times I had to really concentrate because the music was a bit too loud.
2) Resource bubbles. It's hard to tell what is what without the resource bubbles on, so I think it would be advantageous to turn them on. That way we can follow worker actions and (for other videos) city placements better.

Also, are you using some kind of mod that lets you pick worker action while moving him, or are you holding in shift? I often find that by holding in shift to check for worker actions or GM sum, the "excellent" game UI mucks it up.

You can say thx to my girlfriend, because without her, the commentary on that video would have been even 30% less loud, so basically not understandeable at all ^^ .

I'll take that critique though and will improve on the next video, hopefully I can keep up the quality of the commentary also over longer times, I basically found it already hard to talk that much when the video only lasts like 4h, talking is kind of hard for me, as writing is too.

And you guessed right, I "shift-click" the orders of the worker, and I navigate around that "UI-bug" by giving orders multiple times and clicking multiple times and also making clicks in a certain manner (like clicking only very shorty and while clicking moving the mouse-cursor minimally, as that seems to higher the chance for the game to accept a click" ) :D .

Regarding Resource-bubbles: I'll turn them on again and again in my next video. Playing completely with them is not possible for me as it interferes with me clicking on the map when i. e. "moving" the map around or when clicking onto units or cities and so.

Thx a lot for saying that that video was execellent!

only lasts like 4h!

again, I'd break it out into much smaller sessions - 30min to 1hour at most. Ofc, you can play as long as you want and chop it afterwards. Playing/talking for 4 hours is murderous.

I know what you mean about the talking. I started to lose it quite a bit in later parts of my vids - brain goes numb. TMIT is pretty amazing in that he can just talk non-stop.

The question is, do I want to split a "short" video in 4 parts, causing that the clicks get distributed over all 4 of them, to force the viewers to click 4 times while watching for saving them an unnumbered number of clicks because they can search, so click through the video with higher accuracy.

Regarding my videos in general, lymond: I don't record the commentary live. It completely wrecks the game experience for me, and I de-stabilize completely when having to do so. Also: I maybe play 3-5 games for 1 HoF-slot but only until 1 AD or so to see which one's the best, if I'd record live, I'd had to talk the same stuff or even worse, everytime completely new stuff every time!

So I've gone over to recording the video first, and then recording an audio-commentary to it later.

Seraiel, spliting a long video into parts is always better, because:
- less mess with comments: viewers refer to smaller parts or single events in game
- it is hard to watch the whole video in 1 session, and then it is hard to find an exact moment when stopped
- nice to give description to parts, fe. early expension, medieval warring, I rush for Astro etc. so the viewers, that are interested to know how best players do that things, can easily find that part and not to watch the entire game

BUT REMEMBER!!
Always create a playlist for each game, so we can also see the whole game as 1 movie, even if divided into parts and won't be forced to search and click to much for next part

Boreal game in production.

I havn't remembered that the map was actually so freaking extremely hard.

First I decided for Mids and Specialist Economy, because of the synergy with the map and it's tons of food-sources. Also, Specialist-Economy kicks in faster than Cottages, which mostly could only be built on Plains (or worse, Tundra) so definately the superior choice.

Then I noticed, that I needed Bulbs to stay on tech-parity.

But only until I noticed that I traded so much that I had to go Espionage-Economy on top.

And with these 3, I'm currently just staying in tech. There were situations when AI had like 7 techs more than me, but I just made it back and hope that I can develop a tech-lead now (time about Civil-Service) .

Jaguars played a role in 1 game. They did well, having in mind that they got 1 less base-STR, which I noticed only afterwards, they did extremely well.

2nd game with peaceful REX to 10 cities is still a lot better I think.

Ah: Chose Large / Normal / Conquest as options ^^ . Hope you're looking forward to it :) .

Time currently played: 15h (only 2nd round) . All on super-high-quality 1080p video. Maybe I'll release a preview if there's enough interest.

Definitely interested. I'm about 1,5h to the first game, and though it's interesting, it's one city challenge so hard to apply to normal games. A normal game would be better for learning.

Well, Boreal isn't really that "normal" , but ok ^^ .

Current status: Lib -> Rifling 700 AD :D

Number of Cottages over the complete empire: 5 :rotfl:

I don't get why you are revealing the murderer on page 1, so to speak. There is less reason to watch a game if you already know what is happening.

Edit: I wrote this during a night of "why the hell can't I sleep?" so hope it didn't come across too harsh. However I find it much more interesting to both read and watch games if I don't know the outcome beforehand.

Hmm. With me, it would absolutely be the other way round. I'd think "Lib -> Rifling 700 AD on Boreal?!?!?!? WTH!!!! MUST SEE!" :D .

I can edit / delete both posts, if you're sure that me spoiling "a little" makes the game less interesting, maybe others want to speak up to that too.

And it's absolutely alright what you write, it's an opinion, so I must not think like that too.

I think there is no a problem about Win or Loss, but only when is Win?:)
Two reasons - very strong and experienced player and nature of HoF games, where people try to do bets date/score.

That's true, I have no problems winning on Deity anymore, even ultra-hard-settings like Huge / Quick / Raging Barbs / Continents don't scare me off anymore. The problem is to a) beat the really really good dates in the HoF (like 7xx AD domination by Tachywaxon or 1000 AD domination on huge by Kovacsflo ) or b) achieving a #1 HoF spot when having to play totally wicked maps like Boreal, Highlands or Great Plains.

That's why all of my games / videos are also entitled "HoF" , as of course, I regenerate the map as often as needed until I get a start that allows me to produce something awesome, that has a chance of remaining there for some time.

Like in the Boreal game which is going to come up, I had Stone and 5 times Food, which of course is overaverage when comparing starts. I also played with Huts and found Masonry in one of them, my chance to get the GW and Mids, but I think the game can make up for things like that, because it's on normal speed, is on a large, very weak map, and I'm going for Conquest victory and #1 HoF slot again. That spot is currently owned by another very strong player, which I'm sure 90% of the readers of these forums already have come across, and I'm sure that people will either want to see me fail or to succeed on getting that specific from Tachywaxon while playing on Boreal :D .

Monty is fun on Boreal. I recall a HOF Challenge with him on Boreal - Conquest some time ago.

I'll check it out

Funny that Arboria maps never get played. I guess it is a non-standard map since it isn't even in HOF.

When will the first video come out? I don't see it yet.

56 hours is quite a lot, but I want to see some of it at least.

I chose Monte on Boreal mainly for the WM2 Swords that don't need any resources and come from Barracks only.

Then I realized, that they're only STR 5 and the real, actual game also showed, that not even 1 Jaguar would be worth building :( .

I think you guessed right about Arboria.

Do you want to insult me pangaea? :D

56h is only 1/4th of the Sushi-Highscore-games I played, and the game that's going to be featured in the video, will be nothing less than absolutely amazing, astonishing and freakingly brilliant!

Boreal is probably the hardest map that can be chosen in CIV, and I chose it to be large too (making it even more difficult) , I kept normal game speed (further increasing the difficulty) and I told that it's gonna be a Conquest victory (hardest and most epic victory type) that's gonna rank #1 in HoF and beats a slot, that was previously hold by Rockstar-CIV4-legend Tachywaxon!
It's btw. also gonna be in freaking 1080p clear-as-glass FULL-HD @ 60 FPS even with Blue Marble!

Video is currently under production, and I have to work myself into a new editing program, because Movie Maker is screwing up the quality. I hope to be able to release the 1st part still this weak:

What I can spoil for now already, is the title! Video is gonna be called:

Replay #9 Systematically beating Deity, so it's gonna become a part of the Replay series, it's gonna invovle a lot of work, and I plan on giving the viewers a working system with which it's possible to beat Deity!

There's no way that you just wanted to tell me, that watching 50h of someone else playing CIV just could get boring pangaea, or would you really?
