Beta Build Update Incoming...

New mission: Play as Brazil, find Militaristic City State that gives out Minutemen, and fly into constant golden age.

I assume that American Minutemen means Minutemen controlled by America ...

Great! The -5 to pledge at least cancels the abuse. The penalty for going pledge-all and maintaining CS relationship above grand civs with minor, so a minor benefit is logical. I would rework the pledge system too but is a great solution nonetheless.

Please fix ancient SPs!!! Thay would greatly enhance the game giving more variety in competitive play. Who doesn't go Tradition on Immortal/Deity on most games?? I still have to see a Deity early domination game going honor and not losing in BNW.

It's probably just tied to the unit. However, Brazil already gets a unit that lets you get more frequent golden ages, so I'm not sure how much effect them having a couple of minutemen would have.

Yep. Pledge is in need of a re-thiking, not a quick fix. Hope this will be included in the next big patch, obviously it's too late for this one.
A good thing that they removed the Pledge + Consulates combo, but I agree this feature is now reduced so much that it seems almost pointless. A complete rethink wouild be good, but at least it doesn't destroy game balance as it is now.

Well, 5 influence is still worth something...like 40-50 gold early game, right? So its not "worthless".

In today's world, only two states exist - overpowered, and worthless. If it's not one, it's the other.

That sounds like a good quote for a sig file! ;)

First you treat the symptom, then you could examine the cause. We should not accept keeping the problem around in hope for a more complex treatment.

IMO a decent long-term fix would be 5-10 points contributed toward friendship with the city state the moment you tell the rival off. You wouldn't end up at permanent friendship but you'd occasionally pick up a friend a few turns, if you accept the diplo hit with the main civ.

The problem is "telling a rival off" is simply messing with the AI...
if a Human player bullies a CS, would they care if an AI "told them off"... not really

However, if the AI denounced them, then that has in game effects (no *new* research agreements, no lump sum gold deals.. although the general lump sum exploit seems to be getting fixed)

Point is, 5 influence is worth nothing in the game. It won't give you any benefits, and it will not be enough to help you cross the boundary to Friendly in any significant way. If Consulates is +20 and Papal Primacy is +15, this will bring you across the boundary even without the Pledge to Protect. As such, pledging has become meaningless.

It would have made more sense if Consulates was +15, Pledge +10 and Papal Primacy another +10 and then some other effect to PP to make it more useful, like easier religion spread to city states. This way, only with the combined effect of all three would you have permanent friendship with a city state, making them all relevant if this is a strategy you aim for.

Looking good! Glad the Candi and Consulates + Pledging have gotten tweaked...still no word as to whether or not it'll be possible to play mods in multiplayer, though?

It's fixed, but it didn't make it into this build. For now, work around it if possible.

How does this work? I am curious. What determines whether or not a fix will be included into a build?

In my experience, if a fix is made after a build gets started, or if the fix hasn't been vetted by QA to be included in the beta build, then it won't be in a released build.

PtP extends the benefits of early-game quests, which is meaningful enough, given the small potential downside. It's neither OP nor worthless.

On a separate note, the AI seems to be using superior numbers more aggressively vs cities. It's later in the game, but otherwise reminds me of G&K.

have to disagree here. pledging will still be worthwile just to lengthen the reward you get from quests in the early game. 5 more turns of extra culture or food or whatever is better than nothing, and since the diplo modifier is essentially nonexistent then it's still a good idea.

This is exactly my point. Unless you ignore CS quests, it is not worthless.
