Beta Testers Needed!

Just checked my current game, cities that have free 3tile radius plots on the right side, have graphics of being worked on still, even though as I said I have removed the "3plotradius - later" mod.

Castle Mod, Ideology Civics, Beautification, Seafaring, Ice Breaker, Zoological Buildings, are XML, with no SDK changes. War Prizes, Military Civics, and the World Fair are all a mix of python and XML. (War prizes is all Python.) Everything else is SDK and XML.

Now see this information is VERY useful, thx:goodjob:

Update on bugs:

I believe I've gotten all the CTD bugs, and I fixed the bug where the city governor would place free citizens on third level radius tiles when they weren't unlocked.

My last bug is purely graphical, but I still need to fix the bug where it looks like you are working third radius tiles (The fishing boat or small hut appear, normally only for a tile that is being worked) when you aren't. Once that's gone, I'll run a few more test games, release a last beta, and release 1.4.

Little tidbits like this is also useful, thx.;)

Hey, when I run the installation script, it hangs at the InstallUninstaller stage and gives this error message:

I am running Vista. I first thought that there was a permissions error on my setup, but I tried running as administrator to no avail.

Hey, when I run the installation script, it hangs at the InstallUninstaller stage and gives this error message:

It basically says that the installer can't find the uninstaller for my older version. Either manually find the uninstaller, or install on a clean version. I have already changed beta9 so that if it fails, it fails silently.

Good news! I've found the last bug and eliminated it. I will be running some more tests, but if all goes well, expect a new beta (and last) this evening!

Oh jeez, that whole sentence is just an absolute wreck with regards to spelling & grammar... yet I understand it completely. Go figure!

Would it kill you to use a spell-check, though? Firefox has an integrated one, you should look into it.
sorry to bring it back off topic but maybe next time you could PM him? ;) Just thinking- I guess I could have too? :D

I try not to call people out on their actions. I always remember that some people here are not native English speakers, and they are trying the best they can. And if they are native English speakers, and still screw up, shame on... I mean...use firefox.

PM's are the best place for those sort of things.

In some completely unrelated news, the OP has been updated for Beta9!

There should be no bugs, (I hope.)

If all goes well, and I get no bug reports by tomorrow night, I'll release 1.4.

Do you know the amount of time I spend trying to figure out the difference between what I type and what the spelling checker is saying I should have typed. naturally when I get fed up with many and just say replace it turns out one was completely the wrong word. :)

But yes PM are the best place - face saving etc.

Great! Now I will just have to play a new game!

I'm wondering if I should tell everyone or keep minor glitches secret...

In an incredible oversight, I left two XML bugs in beta9, and forgot to update the install files.

The bugs:

1.) Mountains can not have mines on them, unless there is a resource there.

(Mountains should always be able to have mines...)

2.) The Zoo building will magically give +3 happiness instead of 1. (Even though the civilopeda reports otherwise.) I had another function in their I forgot to remove...

Niether of these are game breakers by any means, but just an FYI, beta9 has bugs. Both have been fixed for the final release...

*sigh...*

You know I was thinking, since you brought the mountains and mines up, shouldn't all mountains be a source of stone. I don't know if there would be a way to do that, but it was just something I was contemplating.

That's fine -- they are, after all, beta releases and as such, bugs are to be expected. The fact that they are such minor issues is even cause for celebration, because of the other major bugs beta9 fixes (workers on third city-ring-level, etc.).

Well, not all mountains are comprised of building-material-worthy stone. I know volcanic stone isn't particularly useful for constructing buildings with (compared with other kinds of rock), yet volcanic mountains are common throughout the world -- and even in Civ4, with them annoying volcano events.

I could do that, but it would be sort of hacky, since the SDK doesn't know about anything in the XML per se.

Edit:

I just thought of a non-hacky way to do it. If people really want it, I will add to the next version after 1.4.

Thanks. I hope that's all the bugs there are...

Yeah, as it would come relatively late, with mountaineering, as only then workers can mine/"quarry" mountains, I would use it. Because by then stone isn't as important anymore unless for paved roads and a few late stone wonders.

I might figure them out but can you post your fixes for these two minor bugs?
That way I will have final 1.4 version if there is no more changes between beta9 and final release :D.
