Beta Testers Needed!

A New Dawn 1.50beta5 is out.

No huge changes, but I updated Civic Buildings, fixed a few bugs, and added Early Buildings.

The Mastery Screen is working properly now, but it still ends too early. Some Civic Buildings have been balanced. Guilds Civic got boosted a bit, as it was a little weak.

Enjoy.

PS. No more releases until after exams in two weeks.

You did include all my audio fixes for both Realistic Diplomacy and Advanced Diplomacy right? That way the leaders play their correct diplo music.

I've been noticing that a lot of <Help>TXT_KEY... entries have been commented out in your XML, Afforess. Is this because they were using Python callbacks or something, and you've added them to the DLL GameTextMgr instead?

Yes. I commented them out because they were redundant. I added everything to the CvGameTextMgr.

(It's nice to see that someone examines my code. ;))

As I expected. Speed optimizations ftw! :)

Well, WinMerge is doing most of the heavy lifting -- I'm just repeatedly pressing Alt+Down / Alt+Left... :p

One thing i have noticed with all these crashes to desktop(and alot of them), is that they are about 80% having to do with a unit attacking a city. Then after the first attack i just use autosaved part and it works ok for awhile after that, but then about soooo many turns later, same thing. That was with Beta4.

Okay, I'll watch for that.

Right now, I've got a game in AI Autoplay, Continents, Standard Map, Rev, BarbCiv, all other custom options on. It started in the ancient era and is in the Industrial Era, with no crashes.

After playing a few games I have noticed that they all crash around 1851. I am not sure if its linked to the "World's Fair" but I can still see it in the Civilopedia. Note there was option to install it in AND Beta 4 so I have no idea how it is getting installed in the first place. I thought it was taken out. See attachment for screenshot.

EDIT: I am downloading beta 5 now. Note this bug was from beta 4.

EDIT 2: Yep the World's Fair is in beta 5 too. I have not tested if it will crash at 1851 but its for sure in the civilopdia.

Winmerge? What are you Winmerging? I thought I had everything up-to-date.

Well, I have a TON of modifications to my default RoM XML files (I know, I know, I should have them modular!), so I do not want to overwrite them with yours -- instead I WinMerge them.

...also, it lets me inspect your changes in detail. :p

Also stuff here:

Everytime i enter a city and look around i cant use "Press (ESC) to return with my mouse anymore, this has been this way since Beta4 but i kept forgetting to say anything.

Bard 1 / Local Lord / Kotohu-in are all pink squares.

I use a little different interface and it was ok with Beta four but if you look at my attached the GP face is gone (far left side) and the "dot" before each events in now a smiley face?? (Also see attachments.) (Edit note) this is ONLY my mod i am working on (just for YOUR info).

EDIT: btw, i really really really like all the additions of extra apiary/basket/boatyard/candlemakers/fishtraps etc, nice touch.

EDIT EDIT: I am having a crash now when i even first encounter a barbarian animal it crashes now also. But once i use AUtosave (i have it set for every turn) it works ok, well probably until i attack a city).

EDIT EDIT EDIT: The python file ANM is missing from Beta5? Plus i changed the Brown to my Fire Engine Red color.

Thanks. :D (I know GeneralStaff made them but I still feel pride from inventing many of them)

There are some nice building "trees" that have special buildings if you have other buildings. Such as ...

Butcher + Apiary = Candlemaker

I really like that kind of stuff because it rewards you for having buildings.

Also buildings that produce resources make some buildings more powerful. Such as ...

Pottery (Potter's Hut) + Glassware (Glassmaker) = A more powerful Timekeeper's Workshop

OK, this is still the previous beta but it may be useful
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "BugEventManager", line 357, in _handleDefaultEvent
File "Revolution", line 572, in onEndPlayerTurn
TypeError: len() of unsized object

The last two games I have played revolutions are out of control:crazyeye:. It says that the main reasion is financial problems, but how can I have problems when I have a deficit of less that 1% of my total treasury and have science on 90% ane espinage on 10%? The last 5 games I have played I have been very lucky with goody huts ending up with between 1000 and 2000 treasury. Not that I have gone very far in the games because I get CTDs. This last was teh first with a log.

Now to start the upgrade process;)

I've got a game already in 2092 CE, so the World Fair has nothing to do with CTD's.

The new recycle goods building has a pink icon.

See attachment.

I'll fix it.

Okay, I can take a look at this.

Bard 1 / Local Lord / Kotohu-in are all pink squares.

Dang. That will teach me not to double check the civilopedia.

This happens when there are too many resources in the game. IDK why there is a limit to the number of resources, but in ROM, all but one has been used up, and Early Buildings modmod adds one more. You need to remove a resource for the bug to go away.

I found out why revolutions where out of control. When I added the RevolutionIndex in the Handicap info, I screwed the formula up, so everyone was effectively having 25% worse revolutions than normal.:mischief:

I suppose my idea of no-huge changes is an understatement then?

Regardless, we draw nearer and nearer to a final release. ;)

So I get that the "7 days" final release date you mentioned before was
a little bit too optimistic :) Anyway, good luck with the exams! We will
wait with patience for final release.

I played NewDawn Beta4 lately and again: :goodjob: it is fantastic!

EDIT:
Would the NewDawn Beta5 be compatible with 2.81 RoM patch which Zap
is going to issue soon?
