Betting and Speculation - The "Entirely Separate Hypercube" Civ!

Stupid Shakespeare! He should have written "Merchant of Genoa" instead.

This. I'm disappointed there *allegedly* won't be no cool arsenal UB or canal UI...

I had an idea for an Italian civ back when that idea was still being thrown around.

Italy

Leader: Lorenzo de' Medici

Capital: Florence

Icon (This example was made by albie_123 in the "Irkalla's 'Firaxis-Like' Civilization Icon Tutorial" thread.)

UA: Florentine Patronage: Can spend X% of your GPT to increase Great Person Production.

UB: Artisans Guild: Replaces Workshop. +2 culture, +2 production, +10% faster great person production, 1 artisan slot.

UU: Renaissance Man: Replaces Great People during the Renaissance era except Great General and Great Admiral. Only available during the Renaissance era. Can do anything a normal great person can do except for the Great General and Admiral.

IF the info is good, Venice won't be as easy to roll as people think. No gold from rivers or coast tiles mean you likely won't have as big an army as you're used to early on. I hope that this is one measure they have introduced to reduce the "carpet of doom" With trade routes providing a significant proportion of your income, Venice (at least in theory) should be able to afford a bigger army then your own.

Between that and the Shoshone, firaxis would be going backwards on how they represent native Americans in the game... I REALLY hope this is fake...

Well, according to that and my understanding, the Axeman barb, is for the barbs only, not the Shoshone, I just wish it was the Comanche rather than the Shoshone, but they are close enough I guess.

Presumably they join you.

That actually might be a good way to stock up on Venetian troops.

Yea that would be cool.

I think i like the new mechanic, sugested something similar myself. It represents nicely the history of Venice imo.

I was a serene Venetian hater, when I first saw this stuff, but hey they might be cool. That double trade route stuff, to me, kinda puts an emphasis on how heavy trade routes are going to affect the game now..............For them to give a civ a UA that grants double TR, to counterbalance such a strong attribute they had to make them not be able to found cities..........now that's massive :twitch:

Of course, I'd rather have official confirmation (maybe Friday!)

I'm wondering if they'll still bother to go through with the silhouette icons or whatever teaser gimmick they might have been planning for the official release.

I bet so, stuff like this happens all the time in the gaming industry...........they just stick to their plans as normal and act as though nothing happened.

So I went to sleep. What happened!?

Venice and Shoshone got leaked. Discussions happened. Discussions got deleted. Discussions got undeleted.

So I went to sleep. What happened!?

It's a bit spread out, this summerises it: http://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/1g07oo/bnw_civs_8_and_9_venice_and_the_shoshone/

Venice - Enrico Dandolo

UA: Cannot gain settlers or annex cities. Double the number of trade routs available. A Merchant of Venice appears after researching Optics. May purchase in puppeted cities

Great Galleass: Replaces Galleass; Has +2 combat, +3 ranged combat but costs 73p vs 67

Merchant of Venice: Replaces Great merchant; Has an additional ability to buy city states as puppet cities.

The Shoshone - Chief Pocatello

UA: Cities start out with extra territory. Units receive a combat bonus in friendly territory.

Pathfinder: Scout replacement; Can choose its ancient ruin reward.

Comanche Rider: Cavalry replacement; +1 movement.

So I went to sleep. What happened!?

This thread was taken down. Then put back up. Which caused further speculation as to the accuracy of the "leaked" info. The consensus now is that the info isn't real and that in actual fact the two remaining civs are Israel and the Borg.

Pfoo... long story. What was the last thing that happened before you went to sleep?

Page 46.

Also, Merchant of Venice? Seriously? So you get Venetian Merchants of Venice? If this is real, I hereby withdraw support for Venice and shall go cry in some dark and dank corner.

It's also possible that the "leaked" info wasn't actually true to begin with, which is why this thread was restored.

But then again we don't know.

Venice feels really bad (thematically). A lot of the suggestions in the Italian thread are better done, so I hope this is fake.
