[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

I'm having a problem when I download to programfiles/fraxisgames/civ4/beyondthesword/Mods i install and nothing comes up in the advance options but I do get about 17 icons on my screen . I am running xp with all the service packs civ bts3.17 just curious what I did wrong. Guess I am not smarter than a caveman:help::twitch::wallbash::dunno::suicide:

Grave, it looks like you've put a lot of time into this.

Making Special forces visible to gunships sounds like a good approach.

Thanks!

First one to download - can't wait to get it running :D

Sorry mate, I got the same message.

@Grave: If you say so. But if I hold my cursor on it, it says it's a post, not a DL link. (I'm talking about the link in your original post.) But if it don't bother anybody, just nevermind.

Anyway, I've DLed and installed twice now and upon loading I get 2 error messages (the 1st a GFC load error, the other I can't get to read) and although BtS seems to be active, the loading process doesn't get completed...

hmm.. this is odd. Ive downloaded everything on my desktop and then put it all in one folder and then went to go load it but while it is loading is fails and sez:

GFC Error: failed to initialize the primary control theme

Any idea what this is? or how I could fix it?

What do you mean by Advanced Options? Can you post a screenshot?

Yes, when I announced v2.00, the hyperlink was supposed to take you to the original post. That way you can read up on all the new features, etc. The download link for the mod is at the bottom of the first post.

That usually happens when a colored UI theme goes bad. You did install it into your Program Files/Civ4/BtS/Mods folder, right?

If you put it into your My Documents, the themes won't work.

Oh damn... I think I know what happened with the installer.

It looks like I didn't do the "History in the Making" directory. So when you extract the mod to your desktop, you get everything that's inside the History in the Making directory.

I'll have to fix it later... but in the mean time, this is rather easy to fix:

- Go into your Program Files/Civ4/BtS/Mods directory and manually create a HISTORY IN THE MAKING directory. Name it EXACTLY like that. Anything different may prevent the mod from working properly.

- Next, extract HiTM to either your desktop or to the newly created HISTORY IN THE MAKING directory in your BtS Mods folder (just point the installer directly to the new directory you created).

This should fix everybody's problems. I appologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. When I get some time, I'll reupload the mod so that way it's easier to install.

I figured out the error quickly and put my own HITM folder in the mods folder and extracted the files into it. BUT, when you try and play a game, it sticks on the initializing screen and you never get to play. I had to end the process in the task manager because it wouldn't let me do anything else.

Looks like this mod is going to be a wait until the bugs are worked out type of thing.

Thanks Your Fix Worked

Right. Well, when I get some time I'll reinstall the mod... again. Until then, I got better things to do.

Nice one Grave :goodjob:

Dloaded but still in a decent huge marathon game with 3.13 HiTM, so will try some time soonish :)

Again, when I installed it, it hangs at the initializing screen and it won't go past it.

Three problems:

1) No movies. Although I notice that there are movie files earlier in the thread.

2) Playing as Justinian (but this may not make any difference), the screen seems a bit dark, and things are harder to see. ALL MOD MAKERS: please remember that some of us are not as young as we used to be, and any attempts to get pretty or fance may result in someone not playing your mod because it's hard to read!

3) Having problems moving units in stacks. When I click on a city to move units, it always takes to me to an archer (or to a chariot). I cannot separate them out. Several times when I thought I was moving a chariot to attack barbarians, I was instead moving an archer. Anybody else having problems like this???

I'm getting great leaders with no names. I've checked and rechecked the installation, and I did it right.

Clicking on units in a stack is a problem. I cannot isolate individual units. Actually, I can, but it's a long and involved process.

hurray, it was about time :-)

but i have a strange bug:
i have just downloaded the mod normally and installed in a "HISTORY IN THE MAKING" within the mods folder but when i start the game i completly miss the interface. the game itself runs normally - no crushs. but no advisors, the science advisor screen is also absolutly clear. all i see is the map itself and the units on it, but no minimap etc.

someone has an idea whats wrong?

thanks
azzedar

edit:
ok, seems to happen only when playing with the germans

I have the same problem when playing the egyptians.

Right. Well, when I get some time I'll reinstall the mod... again. Until then, I got better things to do.

Yeah, you do that.

1) No movies. Although I notice that there are movie files earlier in the thread.

Ah, I know what happened. For some reason, Civ4 doesn't like movie files stored within an FPK file. Which means the next patch I'll need to include the movies in a non-FPK format.

Or, you can go into the FPK file and extract the movies and place them in an Art folder, keeping the file/directory architecture. That would fix the issue until I can officially patch it.

3) Having problems moving units in stacks. When I click on a city to move units, it always takes to me to an archer (or to a chariot). I cannot separate them out. Several times when I thought I was moving a chariot to attack barbarians, I was instead moving an archer. Anybody else having problems like this???

You can always do a mouse-over on the stack to see what units are in it.

I'm getting great leaders with no names. I've checked and rechecked the installation, and I did it right.

That's odd. I didn't experience any Python errors in the log with Unique Great People mod. I'll look into this when I have the time.

I have the same problem when playing the egyptians.

That's odd... I ran into the same problem. Other Civs work just fine, though. That is a really odd bug. I looked into the error logs, and this came up:

Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):

File "CvAppInterface", line 70, in preGameStart

File "CvScreensInterface", line 92, in showTechChooser

File "CvTechChooser", line 156, in interfaceScreen

File "CvTechChooser", line 237, in placeTechs

RuntimeError: unidentifiable C++ exception
ERR: Python function preGameStart failed, module CvAppInterface

I would have never caught this, because I play exclusively with the Romans, so I never experienced this. It looks interface related, so I'll see if maybe the BUG Mod team can help.

When I have the spare time, I'll see what I can do about fixing the above problems. Unfortunately, work is picking back up, so I no longer have the free time to play around with modding (I took a two week vacation, which is the only reason I had time to even update HiTM).

So I'll try working on this when I can... but unfortunately, without anybody else helping me, I'm afraid I won't be able to crank out the patches like I used to.

Sorry about that.
