[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

I Know what Mod is better than this One!
the TR Mod Greatest Mod Ever made thank you "Jesus" and the TR team!!!

Ahem.... you went to the trouble of posting here in this thread for this mod for the express purpose of sticking your virtual thumb on your nose and saying "Nyah"?

Just because the forum rules say "No Offensive Behaviour" as opposed to "No Obnoxious Behaviour" doesn't give you license to actually BE Obnoxious. :hmm:

And for the record, TR runs on an inferior base game, is not even half as stable, still has major game-killing bugs and doesn't have half the features and mods that HiTM does.

Don't get me wrong, Houman, The Frog, Walter and the rest of the TR gang made what was probably one of the best mods available for Warlords. But in this case 1) You're just plain wrong, 2) You need to lay off the crack, and 3) You need to lay off the crack.

I realise Points 2 and 3 are the same - I just thought your bizarre behaviour warranted that piece of advice being given to you twice. :splat:

Good on you. I try not to notice the twelve years olds that post here. I have him turned off, so the only time I know he is running his mouth is when he irritates one of the other posters. Now if we all turn him off.........?;)

I know I too responded to the post by xbeanerx but please don't make this thread into an irrelevant discussion about his post!

Grave deserves better than this for his Great Mod!

The TR team have created one of the best mods ever. It has its problems which they are well aware of and I am sure they will work them out. Grave has crafted (single handedly) one of the best mods for BTS. He put together a piece of everything you may wish to have in a mod. He kept the mix very well balanced which is quite a tough call.

I love both mods and enjoy playing them along with many others that several modders have been generous enough to share with the community.

While each of us is entitled to have his own opinion, it is quite rude to voice this opinion in the wrong place. We -the lazy or ignorant pack who chose to set on their butt- should have the decency of at least receiving others' hard work with appraisal, gratitude, or silent politeness.

Edit: @Skodkim You are right, I am sorry I saw your post only after posting mine.

One thing that does bother me in this mod is the number of wonders that don't actually do anything. Give them SOME purpose rather than just a culture boost, otherwise there is really no reason to build them.

Taj Mahal.

My state religion is Hindu, but I've also established Islam, built an Islamic temple but still can't build the TM even though no other civ has built it. Can't find anything in the paedia to help..... What have I missed ...?

Advice appreciated.

---------------

And sorry. This is a great mod. I love all the devices to get the info presented to the player in imaginative and 'ergonomic' ways.

Many thanks !

I need the face palm pic. Duh. Read the paedia entry again. Duh. Sorry to bother you. Please delete me......

All of a sudden I am having a problem with the History In The Making mod running on my system with Vista loaded. The error message says, Bad Allocation Memory I believe. I thought I read somewhere that there may be a work around to play HItM while in a different mode. Could someone please provide me with the necessary steps to get this GREAT mod working for me again in Vista? I've got a great game going and do not want to lose it.

Thanks for your time!

Indeed good Sir, indeed. :yup:

Coincidental I know, but I'm beginning to get the odd MAF error late in the game on my XP build lappie... mind you, I don't believe I have a "real" issue or anything but a localised issue as I'm running on a laptop... it's a laptop with plenty of RAM and GPU grunt, but it's built for CAD and 3D rendering not gaming, so I'd still call it a non-standard rig for troubleshooting purposes... which means it's probably nothing to worry about from the point of view of the mod as a potential POF.

I'm putting up with it for now. Have already tried a driver reinstall... might do a BtS/HiTM reinstall if things get too flaky...

Playing on the biggest mapsize (planetary?), I face the following effects:
After 2 thirds of the game, MAF's and CTD's are becoming very often. Especially this happens in case of
a) another leader contacting you
b) you try to check an advisor's screen

As leader animations and advisor screens (to the best of my knowledge) are managed by python, my assumption is that there is a bug in the python interpreter.
I have experienced similar problems with other mods as well, especially if they did add a lot of new stuff (units, buildings, what ever) and/or did use bigger map sizes. (This did happen even on my XP computer)

System specs:
Core2 Quad 2,4 GHz
4 GB RAM (3,5 GB accessible by Windows)
Swap file 5 GB (own partition, 2nd HD)
Vista Ultimate SP1 (32 bit)
GeForce 8800 GTS
etc etc
All drivers are updated.

To me, it looks like the python interpreter has a problem with the memory allocation, starting at a certain point of memory usage in the game.

@Commander Bello

The python interpreter is loaded as a child process of BTS.exe then it allocates memory out of the memory pool of BTS. So it is again the problem of the exe itself as it is the case with MAFs on auto save.

Edit: I wonder how do you advance with a game on a planetary map up to the time when MAFs start to kick in. The end turn lags should be quite painful right from the game start even with a rig like yours. BTW Vista should be worst than XP when it comes to MAFs as it reserves much more memory for the system.

I agree that there could be more flavor, such as free specialists or something.

But I can find enough reasons to build some anyway.

They come in handy in a period of "cultural judo" in which I'm trying to acquire resources and cities peacefully.

Sometimes I build things to deny them to my enemies.

Sometimes I would rather create than destroy , and I build wonders for the pleasure of seeing them.

Usually it's more fun to build something rather than to convert the production to cash or science.

Getting the same CTD in Vista (32-bit). Has happened three times in a row on Huge maps when other leaders try to contact me. Just started happening yesterday - at least what I noticed (though it is entirely possible that I was playing smaller map sizes before).

My specs:

AMD Athlon X2-64 6000+ (3.0 GHz)
3 GB Ram, 3 GB pagefile
nVidia 8600 GTS
Vista 32-bit SP1

I tried reinstalling the mod entirely, but no luck.

If you can offer any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Or if you want the log file, I'm happy to provide that too.

There seems to be a problem with my copy of the game that I only just noticed now.

The inquisitor is entirely missing.

It doesn't show in the civilopedia, nor in the world-builder. I can't even find it in the xml. I deleted my copy of the mod, and redownloaded the one from the front page of this thread. Still gone.

solutions?

I think the civics need a little work. It seems very weighted towards forcing you to run Universal Sufferage, Emancipation, and Free Market with all the happiness penalties making it annoying as hell to try and run anything else. Maybe I'm just to complainy. I dunno. I just think Police State should also have something similar to Monarchy in military units force happiness.

Just realized that the crashes all occurred when I was playing as Sobieski the Poles (who I hadn't played as before). I'm going to try another game with a different civ to see what happens.

Thanks, Kalimakhus, for the explanations. I didn't know this (well, obviously, I didn't know it, did I? )

About the turn lags: they are very tolerable. I am playing with ~21 or 22 nations and IBT may take 30 - 45 seconds when I reach the AD 1600 region (of course more with enemy movements displayed, but that is just the graphical display).
The problem is that when you have the chance to trade maps, this will soon kill the game as the mentioned CTD's start to happen then constantly.

At the beginning of the game it just takes long to create the map and place the nations, from then on it is quite ok.
Regarding Vista: the only problem which I constantly encounter is that the graphics driver is reported to have been corrupted and fixed by Vista. Then I have to re-boot the whole thing and after that it is ok. Seems to be triggered by something which I did run prior to playing the game, but I have not yet found out which program or service causes that problem.

You may have a point, but I haven't played enough games to get the hang of them yet, and those libertarian civics are my favorites, so I don't try the alternatives much once they are available. What I have noticed is that
that aside from Hereditary Rule, I'm not finding as much use for the other civics between those and the starting ones.

I think I am like Rusty. I like these civics and I adopt them once they are available for me. However to be fair the option of punishing other civs when a civic is adopted is so sever that it shouldn't be used too much. One aspect that seems more unfair is the fact that with building a wonder you can get access to such civic rather early. This is too long time of giving others hell while they got nothing to do about it. Anyway, it wasn't a frustrating factor for me so far and then if it is I would just go into xml and change it. It is really simple.

Yeah I'd have to agree. That's a problem I find in the vanilla game and almost every mod I've ever played. Many of the civics just arn't very useful in my opinion. For example Hereditary Rule and universal sufferage are pretty much the only civic's I've ever used for government. It's a bigger deal with the AI I think becasue almost EVERY civilization, no matter what their prefered civics are, ends up with Universal Sufferage, Free Speech, Emansipation, and Free Market. The Religion civics are the ones most usually unique. I think too many people view it as the civics like Sufferage and Free Speech are "good" while those more associated with a totalitarian, socialist, or comunist governments are "bad". I know as an American who went to school in our public school system we're basically taught all the things our government stands for are "good" while anything that may not seem democratic is "bad"(like Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia).
