Biggest Blunders?

Sailing a great merchant half-way around the world in order to bring in a huge pile of cash, then starting a golden age, thinking that the computer would somehow UNDERSTAND that I wanted to use the two useless great artists siting at home to start the golden age rather than the great merchant...

Ah, I remember when I did a similar blunder. When using 2 GP to start a GA, they actually have to be DIFFERENT types of people, doh! I remember getting stuck with 2 worthless great artists just rotting away...

Ah! Your blunder is thinking you can use 2 artists to start a Golden Age. You must use great people of different types.

Me? One of them is the NOT SWITCHING TO REP things. And I once tried to beat up Sitting Bull with Axes.

The partisan event was on, oh joy.

In an game I was isoplated, drafted a bunch of Rifles, built a bunch of Cavalry, Pikeman and Trebs to go with it, loaded them into my Galleons for an overseas invasion . . .

. . . and leaving my cities defended by only warriors and archers, with Cathy being very very close, closer than my target. Within a turn of landing my army, hers landed on me, LOL. Was not close. I had switched out of Nationalism, too, I wanted Free Speech to help border pops in my newly conquered land. Lost 3 of my best cities so fast it wasnt even funny.

Oh and I have done most of the common silly ones at least a couple times, build Mids and forget to switch into Rep, or build Shaw Paya and forget to switch out of the bottom religious one, etc etc.

DaveMcW,

Ahh so for all the lurkers like myself are you saying you are the cause of endless searches that pop up with 300 possible matches :)

... Underestimating Zara Yaqob, which I now believe to be the best AI of all. He simply wooped me! I was on continent with him, Joao and Sal. I sent a warrior in, took Zaras worker and fortified on a hill. That sent him backwards, and Joao REXed most of Zaras land while he was trying to kill that one warrior. So, game goes on, I am techleader and thinking of a conq victory, Joao vassalizes Zara peacefully. So I attack Joao as soon as I get rifles. Joao, who is warring on the other continent aswell, is completely bullocks and I get 5 of his cities relatively fast. Anyway, Zara is free but doesnt want to stop fighting. Soon I realize that even though my empire is bigger than his, he is teching like a monster! Even though I am financial and have GL I am falling behind. From facing Oromos, my rifles now face grens. He gets democracy and trades it to all other nations but me, completely ruining my :)cap as I have heavy WW aswell. Then he techs assembly Line, gets infantry, machineguns, against my rifles still. He then Vassalizes Joao and gifts him AL so that I am now facing two enemies with infantry. I was so killed, I just quit without screening or saving. My last save is from around 1AD and I am NOT going to try that map again.

Had a game recently where I started next to Sitting Bull, who was Annoyed with me due to religious differences & multiple trade embargoes. However, I've played several games with SB and found him to be a curmudgenly yet overall peaceful neighbor, so I left my border cities guarded by only a single archer each. Oops!

- Built the Great Pyramid and then totally forgot its presence until like 1000AD, when I'm going to get representation anyway.
- Got a couple of gold mines and saw marbles, happily going for a rare CS slingshot. Researched code of Law and perfectly timed the Oracle. Oracles built! But not seeing the option of CS.... geez, forgot it's BtS again, I needed Mathematics.
- Prepared for a num cav rush. Beelined horse-riding. Hooked up horses, built tons of stables. But for some reason just couldn't build the num cavs. Scratching my head and thought there's a bug. Gave up on the rush and went peaceful. After some tech trades done suddenly I saw the num cav building option lighted up. Then I realized I needed archery! But it's a bit too late to num cav rush any more.

Research civil service, say "no" when the pop up asks if you want to change to bureaucracy, then forget to change for hundreds of years. I do that a lot...

Accepted a "plz let me be your vassal" request from someone currently at war with my best friend.

The SEtards will take any excuse to push their dumb agenda. Considering the kind of economy they support, it's a small wonder they're that petty and stupid.

In my most recent game I converted from taoism to CE. It was my sole crusade to murder GP's and extort any techs bulbed. JIHAD!

Er...I've also built the mids and forgot to switch to rep. I'm kind of ashamed to admit...that I built the mids:mischief:. I'm a warmonger...NO WONDERS K THX ONLY UNITS. (Even though early police state could be fun...mids I may revisit...)

I find that my biggest blunders are:
Trusting the AI to act rationally like a human and spending time and effort to build the pyramids, and forgetting to change civics. A very expensive error.

Having a wonder available to build as an Industrious leader and not building it. Screw the purity of your GP pool, just get the GP points! :)

Something I keep messing up on is sending an early settler/troop combo into an area that's been explored but has fog with one big 3+ move command. When I loose enough settlers to lions and bears that could have been avoided if I had moved cautiously my settler one move at a time, I will learn.

Some of the ones above ring true. One of my biggies came last night. Warmongering as Genghis, and about to take a city. the last defender was weakened, so i decided to use my GG-Medic III unit to take it down (to get one more promotion). Odds were 98.1%....and I lost. Stupid RNG. Really devastated me throughout the game, because it took quite a while and a lot more losses of weakened units before getting the next GG. Never get greedy, unless you're willing to take the risk.

Cabert is French though, so his workers probably only work minimum hours and are on strike for a couple of months each year ;)

I have no luck at all. I've had things like losing 3 80% battles in a row happen twice in one game. I get really mad. Especially because in that game, I also lost 2 90% battles in a row. Twice.

Statistically improbable? Sometimes I think the AI is weighting its dice:lol:.

Nappy died a horrible death anyway.
