BirdNES 3: Discussions & Questions

I don't see it mentioned anywhere, but do we have the standard 5 year turn?

Also: what about "standing" policies, i.e. important policies technically implemented before 1490 and still in action? Does that count as neglecting an important area of state development unless changed/reconfirmed?
Yes 5 year turns.

Turn 1: 1491-1495
Turn 2: 1496-1500
Etc.

For standing policies, you may include them in your first set of orders at no cost in Initiative Points.

I think I'm slightly colour-blind because the poo-colour of Genoa has this habit of blending with the grey around it.
Just a quick question, does Florence just include the rest of the small city-states in the grey region (Siena, Lucca, Modena, Ferrara, bits of Savoy, etc.)?

I'll tweak Italian colors with the update to make things a bit more contrasty. Yes Florence and some small states are mixed in the grey area.

1. Following my recent non-aggression pact with Bengal, what does Bengal mean by non-interference with her neighbors? Does it mean her immediate bordering neighbors or all of India?

2. I think you should make it clear that the main thread is IC only, and clear it up. Maybe inject it into the title or place it in the first port.
The Bengali response was somewhat ambiguous wasn't it? Damn those diplomats! Or could it have been the translators? Maybe they were trying to confuse the issue for personal reasons. It is not easy being King. :mischief:

And the Crimean Khan is stalling for time or delegating the negotiations to his Turkish advisors? :p

That would be a quick and neat way to ensure diplomatic isolation and damage your prestige, yes. ;)

The Crimean Khan is on hold with Sprint trying to resolve cell phone billing issues, reading your history of the collapse of the Golden Horde and developing stats for the various Khanates. The diplomats will be sent north in a little while. :p

Right. I did leave out some details here and there, so tell me if you need any clarifications (for instance, the Uzbek Shaybanids aren't looking too much of a big deal yet, but in 10 years they will have historically seized Samarkand, routed the Timurids and made them flee to Afghanistan with all their high-maintenance armed retainers, providing the impetus without which the Mughal Empire would never have been possible).

The House of Lee with our branches in London, Antwerp, Lisbon and Copenhagen live to serve.

Thanks. I will let you know. BTW, your short history of the western khanates was both helpful and interesting.

It is fine in this thread. :)

If you have questions about how to do things or if specific actions are permitted, feel free to pm me. Some things to keep in mind:

--Time and distance: travel was slow and uncertain in the best of weather. Seasonal wind patterns often decided when travel was possible.
--War was seasonal.
--Agriculture was the most important "business" of every nation. Without food, things got ugly quickly.
--Pay attention to geogrpahy; it can work both for and against you. For example, I do not reccommend a winter spring campaign against Muscovy or an invasion of Songhai across the Sahara.

Now I'm sure that both das and NK can come up with notable exceptions that are interesting, but nonetheless, pay attention to geography. :)

Except when it isn't. ;) That said, it is important to understand that the main weakness of mass peasant levies is not their quality (they can be pretty good at times, especially since whether they were contributed to state service by their rural community or their feudal overlord, those would usually be strong and sometimes even trained), but rather the fact that they are, well, peasants and so tearing them away from work during the winter and/or for a long amount of time will cause things to "get ugly quickly".

And you already know what I said about winter invasions of Muscovy. It's really the spring invasions that you should be talking about here.

I fixed my post. Thanks.

I have received one set of orders. Thank you. But...there was not a single date mentioned in them. I repeat, it is important to tell me when things will happen. Minimally the year; better, the season and year. Unless it is important to your plans, I do not need more precision than that. Actions without dates run a 50% chance of not happening at all and I will not chase you down to get them.

No Barbary states?

Also, no Central Asia other than Mughals. ;) Though at the moment it might not be so wrong to just fill it with gray; post-Timurid chaos is at it's highest now; in a decade or so, though, it might make sense to let some basic polities (such as the aforementioned Shaybanids, whose local importance for the 16th century at least I cannot emphasise enough) emerge.

But I wanna be a barbary state
