BNH02- Thats one small step....

got it will have tonight

New Roster order...

BigNHuge - Up in this as-well-as BNH01
Rik Meleet - On deck - Available Sunday
jb1964 - taking a nice break
SJ Frank - Just played

Pre-Flight- Change Washington to a settler. We really need to fill in our back land before we get overwhelmed.

Turn [1] 1475BC- Send the Warrior/Settler to some gems in the north. If we dont lower our lux tax soon, we are gonna be in negative. Meaning losing units. Scouting and MM. Alot more land up north, maybe more civs.

IBT- German Warrior/Spearman pair move into there territory. Must mean the Russian/German war is over.

Turn [2] 1450BC- Nothing special. Scouting.

IBT- Boston Temple->Worker. Also, we have a problem. We are now running neg. gpt. With one gp. Ill have to lux and hire entertainers. China starts the Pyramids.

Turn [3] 1425BC- Lower lux to 0%. pulling in 1gpt. Hire a entertainer in Washington. Will still get settler in 2. MM it so we still grow in 2 while finishing in 2. So the settler pump isnt broke.

IBT- Worker finishes chopping of forest in Boston. So Boston Worker->Settler. And we are running neg 1gpt again, but, we have 2gp so were fine.

Turn [4] 1400BC- All our enemi.... I mean, neighbors our building close together, hopefully dragging into a war.

IBT- Russia is upset that we are in her land, although im not. See she has writing and HBR. Washington Settler->Warrior.

Turn [5] 1375BC- Build Atlanta. Set to spear. I MM Washington so wit will finish a warrior in 5, but will cost us a shield. This, I believe is worth it. Hold all slams at the comp.

IBT- Philidelphia Worker->Warrior.

Turn [6] 1350BC- Send worker out of Philidelphia to road those gems ASAP. That way, we can trade/use them ourselves. Also, switch Atlanta to temple to get culture and gain that other gem.

IBT- Expansion in Boston from culture. China starts Oracle.

Turn [7] 1325BC- It seems that Russia and Germany are still at it as Germany has lost a city to them. Worker actions and MM.

IBT- Nothing

Turn [8] 1300BC- Build Chicago. Start work on Warrior. Now we pull in 2gpt, so I MM Washington to get more shields. MM and set luxury tax to 10% so we are getting 1gpt.

IBT- Washington Warrior->Settler. Now were getting 3gpt.

Turn [9] 1275BC- MM and worker actions. Nothing special.

IBT- Nothing

Turn [10] 1250BC- Chinese warrior/settler pair in north mountains. Got to keep them out next leader. Other then that this turn is boring.

Well, we have more gpt, 2 more cities, running 10%lux and have gems in 6. Id say productive. Gotta watch China. Our deals for gpt are coming up soon. (1 or 2 turns) Also, a prebuild for the GL should go somewhere, if we want it asap.

Here is the save, No pic as it isnt working for me. The Save

IHT. Switch research to writing. 10%.

IBT. Germans start on Temlpe of Artemis. Berlin finishes The Oracle.

[1] 1225 BC. MM cities.

IBT: chinese settler/warrior enters our lands.
Russia starts Temple of Artemis.

[2] 1200 BC. Up lux to 20%.

IBT: Chinese are heading to our plains-peninsula.
Wash: settler -> settler
Phil warrior -> warrior
Chic Warrior -> warrior

[3] 1175 BC. blocking off chinese.

IBT: Boston Settler -> Settler

[4] 1150 BC. lower lux to 10%. Fake opening the gap to Plains-peninsula. Next turn it will be blocked accross the lake with a settler-warrior pair.

IBT: Chinese took the bait and move back to the gap.

[5] 1125 BC. Move settler/warrior to block-location.

IBT: Gems come online. Russia established an embassy in our capital.

[6] 1100 BC. I can down lux to 10%.
Found Seattle. Found San Fransisco. SF starts curragh.

IBT: Chinese unit comes from our South...

[7] 1075 BC. Continue blocking Chinese settler-pair.

IBT: Wash settler -> spear
Phil: warrior -> settler
Chic: Warrior -> spear

[8] 1050 BC. Lux to 0%.

[9] 1025 BC. Blocking row of warriors from the Philadelphia coast to Boston. Buy writing of China for 11 gpt + 12 gold.

IBT: Chinese settler leaves back for China. French city of Reims finished Statue of Zeus.

[10] 1000 BC. Settler near Washington reaches its location.

-----------

Next player: Look out for foreign settlers; although I've nearly neatralised that threat.
I have marked 5 sites in red spraypaint as possible city-locations. But I prefer to settle the south first.

The Save 1000 BC

[Edit - Didn't get started last night but should be able to go this evening.]

This is my only SG that I'm up in so I should be able to deal w/ it in short order barring real life.

Will d/l tonight and start thereafter.

Well, we have no money and no trading leverage so let’s look at expansion.

Looks like China and Germany are at each other’s throat. Go Mao!

10 turns, added Miami and Houston, made some spears. We have another settler in need of founding a city.

Probably should start thinking about the GL pre-build.

Presentation1.jpg

Turn 0 750 BC
Every city that was building regular spears are switched to something else, mostly curraghs. One way to dig out of our current tech hole is to find the other continent.

Another way to dig out of a tech hole is to grow. Most of our cities are size 2-3, if we could grow them to size 4-5, then we would have doubled our economy. Many of our cities are growing very slowly, like +1 food per turn, that's going to change.

Yet another way, and perhaps the best way in our case to get out of the hole, is to attack Germany. They are weaker than us right now -- they have no Iron.

The Great Library is a long shot by now. Russia is in the Middle Age already, and the Pyramid is still not finished. I don't like our chances.

I break up our warrior blockade. After the next city is settled down, there will be no more legal city spots left for the AI. The warriors are spread among the cities as MP's.

I also dial down science to 10%. There are 2-fer's out there, with Germany being so behind, we just need to gold to execute them. we're at 11gpt, paying 11gpt out to China.

IBT: Russia starts the GL :(

Turn 1 730 BC
Seattle: Curragh->Curragh. We need some ships going up the Russian coast too.
San Fransisco: Curragh->Curragh
up to 13gpt now.

Turn 2 710 BC
Chicago: Barrack->Spear
Founded Buffalo. I think my city spacing is much wider than Rik perfers. :p

Turn 3 690 BC
Whip the temple in Atlanta
Lux to 10% because Washington grows to size 5.

Turn 4 670 BC
Washington finishes Settler->Worker, lux back to 0%.
Miami: Curragh->Barrack... There is an island to the south!
There is also more land to the SW of Frankfurt. We need Map Making, because it's a 3-tile crossing.

Turn 5 650 BC

IBT: Russians complete the Pyramids. Chinese cascade to the ToA. Some AI's on the other Continent complete 2 other wonders.

Turn 6 630 BC
Washington: worker->warrior, Washington is back down to size 3, and we're down to +9gpt.
A few more curraghs are completed, they are sent on their way.

IBT: French complete the ToA, and Japan end up with the HG.

Turn 7 610 BC

Turn 8 590 BC
Washington: warrior->warrior
Boston: Barrack-> Spear
Worker starts connecting the iron.

Turn 9 570 BC
Get back our 11gpt from China...
16gpt+96 gold to China for Map making.
Map Making to Germany for Math + 49 gold, picked math for cat and opening up more trades.
Buffalo switched to Harbor.
We still have +8gpt left. Once a few more cities grow, we should have enough for another 2-fer.
I could have gotten another tech from Germany if I send them some gpt's, but I didn't want to tie the hands of the next 2 leader. As it is, we're free to attack.

Turn 10 550 BC

More random thoughts for the next leader to digest

We're down but not out. Remember to only trade when you have a chance to buy 2 or 3 for the price of one. And only improve those tiles that can be used (For example, don't road the forrest when there are BG's around or plains needing to be irrigated).

Buffalo is a good place to use the short whip:
- when it grows to size 2, swap to galley and whip, then immediately swap back to harbor.
- when it grows to size 2 again, it should have 40 shields in the box, whip the harbor.
- Make sure to connect Buffalo via road in 12 turns or so, but it does not need to be connected before that. Use our workers judiciously.

All spear builds can be switched to Sword when Iron is connected. With 3 barrack towns, let's not build anymore regular troops. The other cities can build catapults. Check that, let Washington supply the MP warriors in between its settlers, other than that, no more reg troops.

The max size for most of our cities is 4, though if you don't mind running 10% lux (IMHO well worth it), we can run most of them at size 5. Let keep all of them as big as possible, that's how we can keep economically strong. When cities are about to grow too big, build workers/settlers out of them. Boston is the only city that can grow to size 5 without lux.

We could use a lot more workers, just don't take our cities down in size by building them. I was on my way to turning Washington into a worker town, but the discovery of a southern island gives it a bigger priority.

We're still researching lit at min. There are some real beakers been put in already, so if you buy it from someone, it will be at a slight discount. Not a useful fact except if China picks up lit before Germany, this tech will make the 2-fer somewhat cheaper.

I think half a dozen vet Swords + a few vet spears + some cats should be enough to start the war.

BigNHuge is next, here's the save.

will pick it up tomorrow.

Got it. Have never really been in such a predicament before. Having such a deficit to recover from so early. Of course i had been like this in regent/monarch before, buts thats much different.

Pre-Flight- Take a look at all our cities up close. I never noticed we have that island there. We can get a good 3 more cities there. Excellent. Lets start. Also noticed that Russia is one tech away from Middle Ages. :gulp:

IBT- Just a couple of china/german units moving, nothing else.

Turn [1] 530BC- Whip a galley in Miami. This might just get us to the 2 islands near our continent fast enough. A quiet turn indeed. Nothing really special.

IBT- Washington Worker->Settler. Miami Galley->Catapult. Korea finishes the Great Lighthouse.

Turn [2] 510BC- Change all Spear builds to Swords as iron is connected. All will be done in a few turns. Next turn our first settler will reach the island.

IBT- See some battles between China and Germany.

Turn [3] 490BC- Land a settler and a scout on the island. Still no trade deals possible. China is only down Construction to Russia, and Russia is a few hundred gold richer...

IBT- More deaths of the Chinese/German variety.

Turn [4] 470BC- Pop 50 gold from the goodie hut. Really wanted a tech but o well, more money to buy something. Found St. Louis. Set to a warrior. Time to make a deal. Both China and Russia are up 7 visible techs. Germany 4. We can make a catch up here if we buy CoL from China at 9gpt and 155gp. Leaving us a profit of 3gpt and 10gp. I do it and see what we can get from Germany. We get Philo and Lit for 3gpt and CoL. So, we picked up Philo, Lit, and CoL for 12gpt and 155gp. Now we can try and pick up the GL. Min run at Republic. I hope you guys agree with my decision. This wouldnt have been possible without St. Louis. More curragh movements/MM/worker actions.

IBT- Chicago Sword->GL. This is like the 4th quarter chuck and pray, even though its BC and somewhat the first quarter, also, its a barracks city, but we cant do it in Washington, we need more worker/settler.

Turn [5] 450BC- Nothing to special. Just scouting, trying to find that other continent, hopefully, but unlikely they wont have lit.

IBT- Notice that Russia and Germany have RoP.

Turn [6] 430BC- Nothing special, mm/worker.

IBT- Washington Settler->Spear. Seattle Galley->Catapult. China loses a city to a volcanic eruption. :D

Turn [7] 410BC- Send a Settler on a Galley to the island for more land. Need more cash!

IBT- Russia starts populating island near them. I wanted that island! We might get a city there. Philidelphia Sword->Sword.

Turn [8] 390BC- Make 2 more gpt, and get some more swords, id say a good attack can be made on Germany in 10 turns or less, depending on Catapult situation.

IBT- Raise lux to 10%. to cover our GL city.

Turn [9] 370BC- Congratulate me! I have found the other continent! :) :cool: :D. Contact France. She is in the Middle Ages. Yes, we have Lit up on them. Will save it for next turn to get all best possibilities out of it. France will give us HBR, 7gpt, and 70gp! Can you say $ bill ya'll? Other actions on homeland, but other than that, nothing.

IBT- Multiple city finishes, including our first Cat. We now know France, Japan, and Korea.

Turn [10] 350BC- Time for some trades! w00t! Contact Japan. He is up alot, but we have Lit. Lets see what we can get. Hold out on the deal on Japan, as if we have just a bit more gold we can get another tech from them. Korea time. Also hold out. France time. 66gp, 11gpt, and HBR. Back to Korea. Get Polythesiem for 66gp and Lit. Japan. No trade with Japan. they only offer 1gp as price went down. Well, we are now down 1 tech to Germany, 2 to China, and 3 to Russia. We are back in the game. Also, the curragh drowned on coast so cant find last civ. Build another town. Thats it.

Post-Flight- Well we are now in better shape than i could have imagined. We are not hopelessly down tech wise, we are getting more cities, and our new friends on the other continent dont all hate us. Keep filling that island with cities, and take that German capital, rename it New York, and get a couple techs in the process. I roaded over the gems so cats can get there easier. Pic/Save

The Save

I have a big weekend coming up. It seems I'm up, but I can certainly not play. Perhaps Sunday night or else it will be monday evening (72-75 hours from now). If anyone wants to play in between, that's fine with me.

Great turns BTW !
But I'd not choose 1 taxmen and 10% science for a minimum science run; I'd choose 1 scientist and 0% science ;)

Great job tech trading and scouting. :D We're certainly back in the game. I'd dare say that the GL is not needed anymore, with us being able to broker between the continents.

The attack on Germany will have to wait a bit:
I do it and see what we can get from Germany. We get Philo and Lit for 3gpt and CoL.
Which is fine as long as Germany and China are fighting to a stand still.

well, i thought there, that that trade would give us the time we need to make swords/cats/spears.

abe.jpg

Pre- Flight…

Switched Boston taxman to scientist and pushed research to zero.
Try for currency from Japan for Literature and gold to trade to China for Construction but it’s a no go.

IBT: Germs and French are building the GL. Quite a few units w/ move orders.

Turn 1, Quiet turn.

IBT: Japanese are building the GL. Chinese sword and archer are heading to our boarder.

Turn 2, 310 BC
Quiet turn. We get a settler and a cat. Settler’s on a ship headed for the island to the East.

IBT: Chinese archer and sword cross into our territory. Again, the French are building the GL.
Atlanta needs a harbor and a chop. Buffalo riots.

Turn 3, 290 BC
Buffalo get a taxman but they may become a scientist as I’m planning on a human sacrifice in Boston to build a granary.
We now have no techs to sell.
Houston’s getting a temple with chops.

IBT: The Russians complete the GL in Moscow. A curragh sinks in open water. Chinese still wandering our territory but sidestep Boston.

Turn 4, 270 BC
The GL becomes a temple.

IBT: St Louis riots. Russians land another settler on the island to the West.

Turn 5, 250 BC
Swords are escorting our Chinese friends.
Seattle grows and gets a tax collector.
We buy Currency from France for 19gpt and 50g. We’re close to a deal w/ China for Construction but don’t have the cash and Mao’s not real interested in gpt deals.

IBT: Russians just wont let us sail up their coast and wont grant a RoP. Germans land a settler on the island to the West. Chinese friends settle on the mountain above Seattle.

Turn 6, 230 BC
We bring in two swords to Seattle and two the nearby hill.
Disband the scout on western isle as there’s no more need for him in the near term and we need every dime. Then again we’re two units under our free limit..
China has currency but Germany now knows Construction. Germany’s not parting with it at this time.
We have a curragh that’s one turn from making it into safe waters around the other continent.

IBT: The Chinese duo duck out of our territory and into Germany.

Turn 7, 210 BC
Boston’s scientists becomes a clown due to growth.
We put a sword on the mountain and return to the rest to their perch.
Germany will give us 2g for Currency. It’s a tough call but we pass this offer.
Our curragh makes it to safe waters and we meet India.
India’s willing to trade Construction for Lit and Currency. We take the deal as all of these techs are known by all others. It’s a sweet deal and Gandhi’s now polite.

IBT: Chinese sword kills off a spear in Konigsberg.

Turn 8, 190 BC
New Orleans is founded on the eastern isle.
A mis-click leaves our curragh in deep waters.

IBT: The curragh was lost. A Chinese sword dies and another wins and promotes.

Turn 9, 170 BC
Germany could still use Currency but has nothing to offer. Some deal must have ended because we’re up to 17gpt.
Russia, France and Korea have Mono, Feudalism and Engineering. There’s a deal to be brokered if we can get the cash.

IBT: Nothing

Turn 10, 150 BC
Japan now has Feudalism.

If all we do in this game is kill Germany then I'll be happy.

OK, I Got it

What's going to be our strategy ??
I wouldn't mind taking over all of Germany, then healing and take over China.
After that we take over Russia's possessions on the continent. With our Contintent secured we will have sufficient cities to outproduce and outresearch the others.

Any thoughts ?

My plan:

Take over Germany, then play a peaceful game from here-on-out.

Trade, beg, steal for tech. Incite an industrial age world war to slow down the leading AI's. Maybe a small scale modern age war for resources or capital sacking if it comes down to it. Then at the end, beat the AI's to Alpha Centuri by 5 turns with a perfect ICBM pre-build, then celebrate like it's 2999 :D .

My Plan:

Take over German lands.

Attack and take as much of RUSSIA as possible, even if its 2-3 cities.
Then when we get to MT, we crank/upgrade to Cavs and take China.

Never unintentionally giving either there GA.

Thoughts?

IHT: Switch some builds. But not too many; the plan is still going to be to Conquer the Germans.

IBT: Russia demands 22 gold. I loan it to hear and vow to take it back by force. Someday, you ugly Catherina, you are going to regret this. Remember this day: 150BC, for it will be the date that will be tattooed to your forehead the day we destroy your nation.
Chicago Sword -> horse
St. Louis Worker -> worker
Japanese start Sun Tzu's.

[1] 130 BC. Land 2 settlers; but 1 appears immediately next to a german settler-spear combo. We might just be forced to move on.

IBT: German Settler-spear combo moves away. Russia demands us to leave (ships) -> ok. Galley lost in treacherous waters.
Miami Catapult -> spear

[2] 110 BC. Found Baltimore -> South-east island is filled now. Starts warrior.
Settler near German settler-spear pair jumps back on board.
I have to closely MM cities to keep them happpy and productive.

IBT: Russians start Sun Tzu.
Washington settler -> rax
SF Catapult -> spear

[3] 90 BC. Increase lux a notch to get some better production.

IBT: Boston settler -> spear
Phil spear -> temple
Seatlle spear -> spear

[4] 70 BC. assemble more and more forces in the mountains to strike Berlin. Settler reaches new city site. Try some suicide gallyes to find new land.

IBT: disorder in Boston
Chicago horse -> horse
Galley with scout sinks just after spotting red borders.

[5] 50 BC.
Found Denver in between Seattle and Berlin. Starts temple. Denver opens up traderoutes to Germany, Russia and China.
Sell Russia our only iron + a set of gems for The Republic + Dyes + silks + 13 gold. Set research to Feudalism.

Revoltion; 7 turns of Anarchy. OUCH !!!

[6] 30 BC. Revolting ...

IBT: French start Knights Templar.

[7] 10 BC. Galley drops off last settler on Icy-island. Settler in suicide galley spots coast. Please don't sink.

IBT: Mao demands 26 gold from us. OK. You'll have "10BC" Tattooed on your forehead the day Beijing burns.
Germany demands Currency. No, you're not going to get it. We backs down. Coward.
Russians start Knights Templar.

[8] 10 AD. Found Cincinnati, starts warrior. Suicide galley finds land, but it is already taken.

[9] 30 AD. Sailing the French coast, looking for an island to settle. Or a gap. Anything will do.

Hey; I just now noticed I only played 9 turns. Whatever; go ahead team.
