Botwawki 2.6

To: Rockford
From: The Tennessee Valley Authority

As our closest link to this so-called Sunshine Wasteland, the TVA would like to propose a deal.
In addition to your guiding of caravans north to the TVA Bunker, the TVA would provide a number of heavily-armed soldiers to guard Rockford and any outbound caravans originating from Rockford, for the price of a number of caps - I think a fair place to begin bargaining would be at 5,000 caps for our heavily armed and well trained soldiers.

We will also begin extermination missions on the surrounding regions, to both make your town and our Bunker safer.

@Mosher: Just so you're aware, any NPC diplomacy will be returned in the update after the town has time to consider the offer and come up with a counter-proposal, if needed.

Okay, thank you!

From Socialism to Communism

Socialism as the bridge leading towards a Marxist Society

I6Gld2p.jpg

- Maximilian Kraat, Premier of the People's Republic of America

Article by Mr. Maximilian Kraat

How can a society be transformed from Capitalist to Communist? Can just a declaration of a 'People's Republic' and the nationalization of all means of production bring us towards a Marxist Society? No. There is a need to have a middle step, a bridge, if you would like, to connect Capitalism and Communism and so allow us to cross the path from the former to the later. For otherwise, it would be like trying to cross a river without a bridge or a boat. It would be impossible and you would be drown. That bridge between Capitalism and Communism is Socialism. Currently, our Republic is still in that Socialist phase. Socialism is the second of three steps towards a Marxist Society.

The first step was Capitalism. While Capitalism is inferior to Socialism, one cannot underestimate it's importance to the Communist cause. For Capitalism brought down Feudalism, modernized the nation, gave liberties to the people, political mainly but also economic freedom to an extend. Capitalism also created the Proletariat, the Workers, who are the vanguard of the Revolution. For Capitalism made serfdom useless and unproductive. Slaves were no longer needed. Instead, as farms were replaced by factories, the serfs were replaced by the Workers. And the existence of Workers is a prequisite for the transition towards a Marxist Society.

However, wealth still remained at the hands of a few rich people. The Workers were being oppressed and exploited by their bosses. The bosses were gaining their money through the hard work, sweat and blood of the Workers. But Capitalism created the right conditions for Socialism. As the Workers had more freedom than the serfs of past ages and knowledge was more widespread, the Workers were able to organize themselves and strike back. In 1917, the Great Socialist Revolution overthrew the corrupt Capitalist government of Russia. In our case, the Revolution came far later. But it came.

So, our 'People's Republic' was established and we moved towards our current phase, the second step towards Marxism: Socialism. All means of production were nationalized. The Worker's Councils are now ruling the country. We are a Worker's state. But we have to retain certain functions of the Capitalist state: Police, army and, most importantly, the state itself. In a Marxist Society, there would be no police, no army and no state. Only the People.

The question that arises is how to cross the bridge? How to move from Socialism to Communism? That is a question that we cannot answer. Of course, there are some known prerequisites: the unification of the entire world under one government and the further development of technology. But how to accomplish those prerequisites and if more prerequisites are needed is something we still have to learn. We do not have an answer yet.

As the people in Feudal Ages did not have a plan on how to proceed to Capitalism but when the historical conditions were rights, this happened naturally, as the people during Capitalism did not know how to establish a Socialist state, but when the conditions were rights, despite repeated failures, managed to establish 'People's Republics', so will Communism be established when the historical conditions are right. So, a Marxist Society will become reality when the natural conditions arise. Until then, we have to do our best as a Socialist State.

@poketwo: Well, just PM me with whatever ideas you have and we can work something out I'm sure.

@Scarlet King: All I will need from you is a leader name, trait, and faction trait. If you are familiar enough with what they've been up to, a backstory for the new leadership would be good too.

Leader Name: King Pierre Gladstone II
Leader Trait: Fearsome
Backstory: Pierre Gladstone is a member of one of the most prestigious families in the Paradise Kingdom. Through aggressive trade practices, backed by the wealth of his slave plantations, Gladstone was elected king of the Paradise Kingdom by the Council of Fifteen, a council consisting of the heads of the fifteen wealthiest, oldest, and/or most prestigious families in the kingdom.
Faction Trait: Maritime

[I did a search on the thread for "Paradise Kingdom" but it doesn't come up a lot so I'm guessing a lot of stuff is fungible still.]

@Scarlet King: A lot of the following stuff is all just my head canon and you can feel free to keep or toss whatever you'd like:

The Paradise Kingdom emerged after the destruction of Nassau by Chinese nuclear weapons, the only island in the Bahamas to receive the dubious distinction of being targeted by communist atomic attacks. The Paradise Kingdom emerged from a group of wealthy tourists lording over a significantly larger number of locals who had been working in the hotels. The tourists formed the first aristocracy and thanks to a weapons smuggler, managed to secure their position against initial revolts. In the centuries to come, they propagated a new faith from a cult of the lower classes, in which they argued that there was nothing beyond the oceans, and the world of the Paradise Kingdom was the entire world. In time, eventually the lower classes led another rebellion, and war tore the island apart once again, as the two sides fought for supremacy. A small group of the lower class fled to a group of caves to establish a new base from which to continue their rebellion. The entire situation was stalemated until the Sunshine Kingdom landed an expeditionary force on the western edge of the island. Suited in power armor and speaking unfamiliar terms and languages, it truly did seem as though demons had arrived from beyond the horizon. The leaders of the Paradise Kingdom were able to rally their population in fear of the demons beyond the sea and wiped out what remained of the rebellion, and then extinguished the last forces of the Sunshine Kingdom. The boost in sophisticated weapons brought about a new renaissance in learning and ideas. Religion was reformed, and they began to explore the islands around them, leading to naval conflicts with the Commune of Freeport. (That's where we are today)

Like I said, it's fairly easily reformed if that doesn't work for you. That's just the perspective and way they've been operating as an NPC so far.

Ok, so I understand a new party of flags is due after the next update, so I'm asking all new joiners, re-joiners, and just people who got their faction reformed: what do you see as a theme for your nation's flag?

I think these are the factions that may need a flag update (if they want):
- Great City of Orlando
- Reclaimed Free Republic
- Louisiana Reclamation District
- The Dademen
- People's Republic of America
- Paradise Kingdom
- Did I forget anyone?

I can't promise to stick to your themes 100%, but I'll keep your requests in mind.

EDIT: EQ - are there any non-player communities or even factions you'd like me to draw flags/emblems for? Waycross and the Fellowship of the Palm are the first that come to mind.

@Ahigin, I honestly don't imagine Waycross using a flag beyond anything that existed before the war. You could go with the old national flag (or a Confederate flag, this is Georgia after all). If the RL town of Waycross has a flag or banner that would work too. As for the Fellowship of the Palm, I'd say something off of the Christian flag would probably work.

Not sure if Edgewood had any flag beforehand, maybe a Burgundy cross would just work for us if not for the FRD already having that XD

That is a /terrible/ flag though :(

Just suggesting it as a base for a new flag.

I can totally work with all of this.
