Statement from the Southern Alliance

The Enclave lays claim to the breadth of the entire United States - every post-apocalyptic hamlet, every hardworking scavenger town - all free nations - are the future territorial conquests of the Enclave's megalomaniacal fantasies.

In pursuit of their ambitious project of annexing the entire former United States, they have recruited the Reclamation Districts - the grunts of their empire. There is no means of becoming a Reclamation District for us bathed in radioactive original sin - we wastelanders are impure in the eyes of the Enclave, who envisions a future United States composed exclusively of vault descendants. They have an unachievable definition of humanity, and the descendants of everyone who was left to die in the Great War by the government the Enclave claims to inherit are the vermin to be eradicated.

We are not vermin! We are not mutants! Wasters are equal humans, as much as vault dwellers, and have the inalienable right to form their own governments - their own sovereign states. The Enclave has no right to our property and hard work!

The free nations of the Grand City of Orlando, Jacksonia, the New Gulf Commonwealth, and the Reclaimed Free Republic therefore assert the right of independent states to claim sovereignty from the former continental United States, and pledge to protect this right by force of arms.

While we recognize that this is an attempt by Jacksonia to whitewash itself and instead try to rewrite history so that it can see itself as a brave hero, standing for freedom and equality, brandishing the Sword of Justice and bearing the Shield of Legitimacy, the Sunshine Kingdom agrees with the sentiment of this message, that people have the right to defend their way of life from those who wish to impose it by force of arms. The Legitimate Rule of the Enclave as the United States Government ended in 2080, when the term of then President Jason Warren expired. The dissolution of state legislatures by way of complete eradication, and therefore the end of the Electoral College, prevent any successive elections to be Legitimate, as does the end of the Legislative Branch and Judicial branch acting in balance of the Executive Branch. At best, the Enclave can claim descendant from the Executive branch, but NOT the position of president, and so have no authority in dividing up the wasteland, not least after two centuries of abandonment.

The Sunshine Kingdom, however, hopes that the Wasteland can see the hypocrisy dripping from the words of Jacksonia, and that Grand City of Orlando, the New Gulf Commonwealth, The Sunshine Trade League and the Reclaimed Free Republic all condemn the actions of Jacksonia towards people with whom it had once entered a similar agreement, and that Grand City of Orlando, the New Gulf Commonwealth, and the Reclaimed Free Republic remember that at the heart of every Jacksonian gift is an armed grenade, and every Jacksonian promise is a lie meant to enslave your good people.

We call on Grand City of Orlando, the New Gulf Commonwealth, The Sunshine Trade League, and the Reclaimed Free Republic to CONDEMN Jacksonia and call for the return of all unlawfully seized territory and assets to rightful rule, and the IMMEDIATE liberation of all slaves within Jacksonian territory, as Slavery is the antithesis of civilization and should rightly be decried by right thinking people.

While the Transmississippian Confederation doesn't possess enough information to declare Jacksonian actions against the Sunshine Kingdom as either just or unjust, it agrees that the very first step the Jacksonian government has to undertake before even claiming to protect freedoms and rights of law-abiding Wastelanders is complete abolition of slavery as institution. Until such reform takes place in Jacksonian lands, any Jacksonian statements, such as "Wasters are equal humans, as much as vault dwellers," would be viewed by the Transmississippian people as nothing but a gross hypocrisy.

The Grand City of Orlando notes that the declaration of the Southern Alliance does not necessarily mean the commendation of Jacksonian actions. What it means is the fact that just because one did not have the privilege of being born in a vault does not mean that they are inferior to one who was.

What it means is that the "Reclamation Districts" do not have a right to our communities. The Florida Reclamation District does not have the right to own Orlando or Tampa or Nasa City simply because it was designated by the Enclave as the rightful owner of the former state of Florida.

This statement declares that those of us who continue to live on in the Wastes, vault dweller or not, has a right to our communities, a right to not be made into second class citizens purely on the basis of being "mutated".

That is the stance that we Wastelanders must take, and we would implore others to stand by us in this mission.

Ok, I guess it's time for a new mapocalypse.

All new joiners - please describe what themes you'd like to see on the flag/emblem/banner of your faction. I'll take some artistic liberty, but promise to stick to your recommendations.

I was thinking something simple, not too flashy or ornate. The flag would probably feature symbols emphasizing unity and peace, maybe including a nine-pointed star as a nod to the Brotherhood’s origins.

Nashville is known as the "Athens of the South" (it helps that we have full-scale replicas of the Parthenon and the Athena statue inside) so some sort of (neo)classical theme maybe?

Hm, I was going with my new faction as something both futuristic that also has small hints on classicism with a phoenix thrown in there possibly.

OOC: It would have been better if it were on a hill, and I could walk around in a toga, but I digress

Diplomatic orders:
Spoiler :
- send 50 food and 50 water to each Ittabena and Grenada with a standard offer to join our Confederation. As usual, we will introduce ourselves, tell the Ittabenians and the Grenadans about our laws and traditions, as well as their benefits and rights if they join us. If they reject the offer, we’ll ask their permission to leave small missions of Gray Stalkers to proselytize among the locals and provide them with our medical expertise;

- keep our religious missions in Gibton, Old Trace, and Jacmed;

- check with the Choctaw Tribe if they’d like to allow our Gray Stalkers to found a mission among their people. We do accept “no” as an answer.

Market orders:
Spoiler :
- sell 600 materials for 136.8k caps;

- upon selling the materials, buy 2000 ammo for 160k caps.

Domestic orders:
Spoiler :
- transfer 100 1-H guns from Goodmen to McCool and transfer 100 low-tech melee weapons from McCool to Goodmen (already included in the Stats In The Beginning Of The Turn section);

- build 1 Water Station for 600 materials in The Glen, if enough unused water sources are still available. If water sources in The Glen are maxed out, shift the construction to Chairkey Den, Moor’s Head, or Canton;

- build 1 Farming Equipment in Wolf’s Lair and 5 Farming Equipment in The Glen for 300+1,500=1,800 materials;

- the Wind Riders (light aircraft) will continue performing the following missions: 1 aircraft patrols the area in the vicinity of Fort Anguilla (same precautions and instructions as before), 1 aircraft patrols southern and eastern frontier of the Confederation, 2 aircraft units are assisting each of the hosts in their northern expedition (see below);

- the Lone Wolves’ Host (1200 people with 1200 low-tech melee weapons, 25 high-tech melee weapons, 200 1-H guns, 100 2-H guns, and 5 laser weapons, equipped with radios and supported by 1 recon aircraft) will perform scrapping and anti-raiding operations along the bank of the Mississippi River north of Green Vale. First stage of the expedition will follow route from Winterville, MS to Rosedale, MS. If the season is not over by the time the Lone Wolves reach Rosedale (and if the host is not dangerously depleted), the host will undertake an extended expedition from Rosedale, MS to Clarksdale, MS. Regular Confederate order of battle will be used with a “seek-and-destroy” approach to encountered bands of raiders. Locations with extreme density of wild ghoul population or any other particularly dangerous wildlife should be bypassed in order to optimize spending of ammunition. Expedition will map locations with particularly fertile and water-rich land. Rosedale (for Stage I) and Clarksdale (for Stage II) are going to be used as rendezvous points with the Stray Dogs’ Host;

Challenge and solution:
Spoiler :
Pack Leader’s Challenge: The recent rise in food prices and large amount of spoilage has led a number of people to be increasingly upset with local merchants. They claim that merchants are exaggerating the shortage in order to charge higher prices than ever before. They have demanded that the Pack Leader step in and enforce price restrictions. On the other side of the debate, most town leaders and merchants would be highly opposed to any regulation of the market. How do we respond to this debate?

Pack Leader’s Solution: The recent price fluctuation is nothing but a result of a huge power shift and calamities in Sunshine Wasteland. Too many were too eager to capitalize on the impact the Sunshine-Jacksonian War had on food and weapon markets. Unless famine or draught start to threaten the lives of Transmississippians, the Council of Elders and personally Pack Leader should not impose any price restrictions on law-abiding merchants.

Instead of imposing price restrictions, the Confederate government will dedicate its resources to combating market monopolies. If a company or a conglomeration of associated trade guilds becomes in control of an overwhelming share of a local market in any Transmississippian city, that company would be obligated to pay additional anti-monopoly tariffs for its goods in that specific town. Such anti-monopoly tariffs will be set in a way to encourage competition and make potential monopolists extend their trade routes farther through Confederate trade network (i.e. instead of holding monopoly in one town, a company should find it more profitable to hold a smaller share of the market in multiple Confederate communities). Specific tariffs will be set according to current economic situation.

When it comes to the point of large food spoilage last season, Pack Leader Spartacus fully admits it was not the merchants’ fault, but a major economic blunder on his part. Spartacus takes full responsibility for that failure, and he is ready to step down from his position if the Council of Elders requests him to do so. If the resignation does take place, a popular election will determine the name of the new Pack Leader, while Spartacus himself will proudly join the order of Gray Champions as its honorary Grand Foregoer.

If the great food spoilage of the last year doesn’t cost Spartacus his position, he’ll continue leading his people into the future as a Pack Leader.

Challenge and Solution:
Spoiler :

Dean Phoenix's Challenge: Now that we have entered this new part of the wasteland, we have noticed a large number of lost and wandering people seeking new homes. We could welcome these people to join our tribe or enslave them. How do we respond to these potential immigrants and recruits?

Dean Phoenix’s Solution: We shall let them join our tribe as undergraduates under one condition; they must take a sumbission test granted by the professor, sort of akin to the citizenship tests of old, which will test their knowledge in various sectors. Those who pass will be accepted as undergraduates, while for those who fail they will be given the choice of joining the tribe for one year in order to learn what is necessary for their advancement in the tribe and then re - take the test. Then, if they succeed, they will be admited to become under - graduates.
Those with remarkable grades in the sumbission tests are to become post - graduates under a professor of their choice.

Migration Orders:
Spoiler :

We will start from our current settlement in Memphis, TN, and we shall move towards the old area that is known as "Mississipi". We have heard various rumours and after consulting old maps of legendary figues, we have decided to travel to a smaller old area there called "Water Valley", which would be really useful for our survival if it is as plentiful in water as its name denotes. During our migration we shall be very suspicious of any settlements that we come close to, but we shall try and negotiate sumbission tests with them and perhaps engage in trade with them. Meanwhile, we shall collect any materials that we come across. Should we be attacked by a technologically superior force, we will retreat to grounds which will let us ambush them and make use of our melee weapons. Our main concern in trade right now is to acquire working range weapons and ammunition in order for them to work, as they would prove superior in combination with our melee attire.
Should we accidentially step into the boundaries of a polity in Mississipi, we shall negotiate our safe passage into this "Water Valley" without distrupting the logistics and lives of other people

There was a typo in my orders, which has been corrected and bolded. Patrols are to be 30 people, not 300. I doubt half my population going on a single patrol would end very well.

I have just created a pair of graphs depicting the market prices of the various goods over the last several turns, specifically Update 41-46. The first graph depicts everything, while the second is more in depth as it removes the recent food and material spike outliers. I have found comparing the prices over time to be useful and I felt I should share. Enjoy.

those are interesting. I would like to see further back, like to the beginning of the open market, but I can understand that'd be difficult with the elimination of Tech Parts and Scrap Parts and the creation of the Materials stat to replace them.

That was what I was originally planning, however I satisfied myself with going back to update 41 for now. I will see if I can go further back in the future. You wouldnt by chance happen to know what update started the market?

Faction Name: Darcy's Raiders
Leader Name: Captain William Darcy
Leader Trait: Enigmatic

Starting Location: Camp Lejeune, NC
Spoiler :
qNDTWwa.png

Leader Background:
William Darcy was brought into the world as a healthy young boy within the confines of the medical bay of the drifting US supercarrier "Goliath" in mid-august, 2229 A.D. Son to Ship Admiral James Darcy and Maria Darcy, life was exceedingly harsh and cruel for the young boy as his father, the community's leader, was quick to install discipline and the burden of future leadership upon the shoulders of his only child. His mother, remained unable or unwilling to intervene on her son's behalf, though ever-watching from the shadows. Darcy would be able to truly forgive his mother for the brutality he endured.

As the boy grew, he was tutored by the finest intellectuals the ship had to offer; mathematics, reading, writing, geography, history, weapons training, power armour training and so on, and so on it went. Darcy would often find himself sitting in the botanical gardens on the launch deck of the Goliath, staring out upon the endless seas which squirmed around them in every direction. The stars had never been brighter.

Having reached adulthood, Darcy's father dies of blood-cancer at the age of sixty-seven. He is given a funeral at sea, and his coffin is launched out of the Goliath, sinking down into the depths, with the red, white and blue colours of the American flag, wrapped tightly around it. Though Darcy feels little, for his loss was a victory. He was the commander-in-chief of this vessel now. And he wanted to reach land. He wanted to see mountains and trees. He wanted to see real plants, not the ones growing in the gardens. He wanted to feel sand beneath his feet.

He craved it.

Origins: Pre-war Military
Traits: Expansionist
Capital Type: Ford-class Aircraft Supercarrier; "USS Goliath" (Bunker)

Background:
Darcy's Raiders were, originally, the acting crew of a US Supercarrier attached as part of the US 7th Fleet, tasked with engaging the Chinese navy protecting Shanghai and providing support through the USS "Goliath" aircraft carrier. The fleet was en-route through the Pacific, but had stopped by a military port in Hawaii to make final preparations when the bombs suddenly fell in 2077, the initial blast of a close-proximity warhead disintegrated a majority of the fleet, and sending what little remnants that managed to desperately evade the danger-zone out into the open seas.

The powerful waves had utterly destroyed The Goliath's engines and rotors, leaving it dead in the water as it was slowly washed away at sea. Realizing that the apocalypse had just been unleashed upon the world, the crew and it's original captain; Miles Darcy, began attempting to forge a community upon the vessel. With some effort, they scrapped whatever they did not require, including fighter jets which had been rendered useless by the nuke's electromagnetic pulse.

They erected a botanical garden on the launch decks, surviving off of that, as the waters showed to be dangerously contaminated to the point that the fish were actively mutating, and the only water they could drink was from the ship's water purification and rejuvenation plant.

Years passed, and new generations picked up their rightful place as crew of The Goliath as their forefathers before them. The Great War became legend, and as always; they endured - ever-looking for land, and attempting many times over to repair the ship's engines and systems, but to no avail.

Eventually however, the fourth-generation US Navy crew under the leadership of Captain William Darcy, now nicknamed: "Darcy's Raiders", saw land in the distance. It was too good to be true. Whether it was North-America, or China - It did not matter. They had reached their salvation at last. And it was a good thing as well, for there was a fire in the botanical gardens, which burnt down all the ship's crops, forcing them to live on what they had, and expand outward.

The now-aging carrier slowly lumbered into a harbour, and halted abruptly as it collided head-on with a pier. Intact, and overly hyped; Darcy's raiders rushed out to secure the area, and expand.
