Brave New World's 9 new Civs

The main arguments for Indonesia are:

1. Lots of support over a long period
2. No new civs added in Asia yet
3. Would fit new features well
4. Huge modern population and potential market

We'll see what happens though. I pretty much expect they'll be in at this point, but who knows.

For #3, one thing that gets lost on people is how significant a role Indonesia played during the Cold War scare. Despite their history of trade and diplomacy, they had their bumps along the way

For #4, the huge market extends beyond Indonesia into Malaysia and Singapore. These ASEAN emerging economies bode well for Civ sales for Firaxis if not already now, then at least by Civ 6 and 7

It's not a C-bomb, it's confirmed for Scramble for Africa and what we know about the achievement alphabetical order means it hasn't been eliminated as an addition to the game like Belgium. It's still possible, but so is Cherokee, Hungary, Indonesia, Java, Khazars, Khmers, Majapahit, Morocco, Sioux, Timurids, Venice, Vietnam etc.

Well look at the phrasing for the Scramble for Africa Achievements

"Playing as Belgium, move your Stanley Explorer to within a tile of England’s Livingstone Explorer."

"Playing as England in Scramble for Africa, complete a railroad from Cairo to Capetown."

"Playing as Italy in Scramble for Africa, earn the VP for finding two Natural Wonders."

Belgium who we know are not in the standard game doesn't need to be qualified "in the Scramble for Africa" but England does. Meanwhile Italy follows the same wording as England.

Actually, I'm just bored and not really reading too deep into this. Probably means nothing.

Assyria

Srivijaya (This is an Indonesian kingdom, though I don't know why they'd be so specific with the name.)

Srivijaya (and Majapahit for that matter) are well-known enough and were vast enough to be included as their original name. But ultimately it comes down to accessibility and quite frankly 'Srivijaya' might appear completely alien to people. Who knows though

Good catch. That probably does mean something so some idiot won't be confused why they wouldn't get confused why they didn't get an achievement for completing a railroad from cities they renamed to Cairo and Capetown.

Thanks to the achievements, the alphabetical order appears to be:

1. Assyria
2. Brazil
3. New
4. New
5. Poland
6. Portugal
7. New
8. New
9. Zulu

Hopefully that helps speculation.

Using this to speculate is next to pointless at the moment. You mean we have two civs A + B and then another one at Z, (and since the other two both start with the same letter) that means the remaining civs could start with anything from B to Z!

I'm not sure how to even pronounce it!

I guess we can rule out a Silk Road civ:

Silk Road: Connect to the Arabs, China, India, the Mongols, and Persia at the same time using Caravans.

If one was in, it would have been included in the achievement.

So no Timurids, IMO

That is pretty interesting, actually.

Guys, I think Italy is in.

When I first heard BNW (when we still called it 'One World') would be related to trade globalization I really thought Silk Road would have been one of the main features

It helped to eliminate Belgium. As we learn more and more civs are announced it will help speculation. Say that Khazaria is announced tomorrow and takes its place after Brazil in the code, we could then dismiss Hungary from BNW speculation.

That list also confirms Australia is out. I wanted it, but I became increasingly aware it wasn't gonna make it in.

Unless Indonesia falls under the unlikely name 'Srivijaya' it looks like they got short-handed once again

Actually, that's interesting.

There is only two spaces between Brazil and Poland.

Italy, Morocco, and Indonesia/Majapahit can't all be in as all three would fit there. Considering all three are on the majority of people's lists, this is a big deal. Of course, Venice would work but the other achievement makes Italy more likely and as you said Srivijaya is unlikely.

How is Indonesia ruled out?

"Assyria
Brazil
NEW CIV
NEW CIV
Poland
Portugal
NEW CIV
NEW CIV
Zulu"

There are two slots between Brazil and Poland.

Morocco, presumably confirmed, falls under one slot.

Italy, already with strong cases and theories, are further bolstered with the deliberate wording of "Playing as Italy in Scramble for Africa" where Belgium, confirmed not to fall under alphabetically, is just "Playing as Belgium"

It's a stretch, but that's what speculation is all about here and I'm not claiming it's ruled out. Just more unlikely

Oh, I see now. If Italy is in as the scenario achievement states Italy, Indonesia, and Morocco (which was kind of confirmed as well) can't be the two in between Brazil and Poland.

edit: I understand now.

Definitely good points there.

What sort of civs could go in between Portugal and Zulu? So far, out of the commonly suggested ones, the only ones I can think of are -

Venice
Vietnam
Shawnee
Seminole
Timurids (but the Silk Road achievement might render that moot... Maybe.)

Any others?

Here is my list:

1. Assyria
2. Brazil
3. New- Italy
4. New- Morocco
5. Poland
6. Portugal
7. New-Sioux
8. New- Vietnam
9. Zulu
