Brazil discussion thread

I actually prefered Rio de Janeiro as a capital rather than Brasilia, as Rio was the capital by then. I know, some people still think it is our current capital and other civs use their current ones (Moscow, Warsaw, Beijing), but I think it is historically correct (as our leader is from that time) and I like it like it :D

I find it ironic that Napoleon's UA refers to the regime that was destroyed right before he came to power.

All this does is illustrate that the UA refers to the civ, not the leader.

Bingo, the UU, UA, Leader and wild card (UI/UB/UU) all work together to represent a civilization. So for India you have Gandhi representing the struggle for independence, population growth for their extremely crowded cities today, war elephants which were a long-time staple of armies of various indian tribes/governments, and the mughal fort for the mughal period.

No need,I am a brazilian .

Apologies then. Strange, I saw a lot of people on here earlier prior to knowledge of the cap discussing that they wanted Rio to be the capital

Can anyone identify the carpet from Pedro's leaderscreen? Which native culture does it come from?

Regarding Pracinhas, the article I read about them says they helped Brazil's common people gain a sense of confidence and equality rare in Latin-America, shaking up Brazil's society, thus actually has a subtle yet profound effect on Brazil's course of history.

I actually was a supporter of Rio as capital even knowing that it could be misleading for those with little knowledge about Brazil who still think our capital is there, and also knowing that others civilizations didn't choose the capital with the civ leader period in mind. That's because I think the the capital must be the one that has the bigger impact in the civ History and also held this designation for longer time. Even being a Brasília's resident, I know that my city don't satisfy any of the things I mentioned.

I'm not sure about that. Father vs. Son intercontinental war sounds much better on paper than it was in real life.

Well, indeed. The brazilian war of independence wasn't a large scale conflict, since Portugal couldn't afford an distant overseas war right during a serious political crisis that divided the country in two factions, and while the rising government of D. Pedro I of Brazil had to hire foreign mercenaries due the lack of officials and trained soldiers. We basically fought the portuguese garrisons throughout the country. It wasn't easy and it wasn't bloodless, but I couldn't put it in a list of the most spetacular battles of History.

I agree, if Firaxis really want to make a South America Scenario it should be the Paraguay War or the Italy invasion scenario. (Would be cool a mini-game using the UU with you having little time and units to get to the French border before the war is over).

It's been incredibly inconsistent thus far with the capitals, so no real surprise that Rio was taken over Brasilia.

Thebes isn't the modern Egyptian capital, hell, it wasn't even the capital of Ramses II and his dynasty (Pi Ramesses is like sixth on the list.) Pellas was Alexander's capital, not Athens. D.C. didn't even exist when Washington was president.

If we got Portugal, the Dutch and French invasions of Brazil would be a cool scenario.

Since someone was trying to get us all to refer to the Assyrians as sciencemongers, I say we call Brazil the partymongers.
