The main objection is that people can see their boobs. To which I say grow up and be a little bit more mature.
That's verrry logical reasoning. I wonder if the same reasoning applies to flashers in school yards - "Don't like my pecker?! Grow up!"

You'd have to be pretty stupid to treat breastfeeding mothers like a paedophile showing his pecker at a school.

Stupid arguments deserve stupid responses.

Except flashers are trying to get a reaction from others. Mothers are just trying to feed their baby.

@Loppan: Erm, no. He's saying that you can't compare breastfeeding in public to masturbation in public -- to which you promptly responded by comparing breastfeeding in public to a paedophile showing off his pecker to school children.

No, he said "The main objection is that people can see their boobs. To which I say grow up and be a little bit more mature." which in itself is an immature way to argue. A flasher could make the same argument and it's equally absurd... Please read the posts before jumping to conclusion.

The problem with that is that boobs are awesome and penises are disgusting. They are in no way comparable.

It is not "equally absurd", because a paedophile showing his penis to a group of school children is in no way comparable to a mother breastfeeding her baby. No right-minded individual would possibly compare the two, which makes your analogy utterly worthless. Please comprehend the posts before dismissing their conclusions.

Grow up ...see, it works equally good here too. Did I win the argument by telling you to mature or grow up? Did I bring anything at all to the discussion?
You're focusing on the wrong things. I didn't compare the two acts, just made a point of the reasoning before.

It's equally absurd reasoning because the only things that differ are the acts, and the point of perspective. There are two groups in both cases: the flasher against the rest of the society, and in the other group - those who suggest that some discretion is preferable against those who prefer titties out in the open. In both cases, telling the other side to grow up is neither mature nor a good argument. Comprende?

I'm still trying to comprehend what Loppan's argument actually is. So what exactly is the reason again that you're against public breastfeeding?

I feel the need to add the following youtube video. Why? I don't really know, but I figure it is at least as relevant as some of the other things being tossed around this thread.

Who said breastmilk was harmless?

I show some respect to women by not staring if I happen to walk past someone breastfeeding. Women could show the same respect by showing at least some discretion.

I still haven't seen a good answer to why people avert their eyes from mothers breastfeeding.

Not really any problem with it. Would prefer if mothers tried to find a secluded place to do it though but that ain't up to me.

I'll give you an answer. It may not be good, and the answer is personal and may not apply to everyone else (everyone has different tastes)

I avert my eyes because I'm a gentleman. I assume the woman doesn't want me gawking at her breasts like a pervert. If she asked me to look at her breast feed her child, I would ablige and look. I realize that a woman has to feed her child, but doesn't necessarily want some strange man staring at her tits. I'm just happy the child is feeding and not crying its head off. More breasts and less crying is a win-win situation.

Most women are not exhibitionists and don't want men staring at their breasts. At least not guys like me. So out of respect to them I avert my eyes. It should be noted that I have never seen a woman breastfeed, so I'm only going off theory here. I have no idea if I would react this way or not, but I suspect I would avert my eyes.

I've yet to see a woman who doesn't show discretion (but then our opinions on what discretion is might differ). I've seen no woman so far ripping her clothes off shouting look at my breasts I'm going to feed my child :ack: Women don't go out of their way to make their breastfeeding known.

I don't avert my eyes, but I don't specifically look there either. Same reason I don't look specifically at some couple kissing, it's none of my business (but then there's people who think this shouldn't be done in public either :ack:)
