Breatharianism

Speaking as a person who has fasted for long periods of time, I think you can sustain yourself via juice and dairy for quite a long period. One of the methods I used in fasting was supplementing with vegatable and fruit juice with vitamins. Does it take all the hunger away? Nope. But it does knock the edge off.

Interesting post.

May I ask why did you fast? Religion related?
Don't see it as bashing religion. I had a bad experience recently asking why don't you use climate change instead of global warming/drying and people though I was bashing.

Scam/hippie dribble. 10-day isn't that long- heck, people can live for a month without any food and just water, much less than juice/wine/coffee. He just underwent those studies, which were probably questionable in the first place, then went home to have a nice big steak.

You could probably survive a few months with properly supplying vitamins, minerals, and calories in the drinks, but this is a huge scam.

I guess it is possible to survive on juice, wouldn't recomend it though.

The guy is a wussy though, if you are going to fast, at least don't drink juice!

I am agnostic, but still fast on Yom Kippur (for cultural not religious reasons), so, where do I rank on the hippy scale?

I'll bet nowhere. Since it's tied to culture which stems from religion.

Well, if breatharianism becomes popular, there will be a lot less hippies out there. Right?

Indeed, it's possible that the part of his brain that tells his conscious self that he's hungry doesn't work properly, and so he can stand the hunger.

TBH I don't really consider this "breatharianism". I mean, he drinks fruit juices. That's basically mushed up fruit ffs...

You would think so. The market usually corrects itself on these things.
Don't be so sure it happens in this issue though.

If it becomes popular then more people turn into hippies and since these kind of extreme flavours of subculture will become more mild when applied to mainstream probably most of them won't adopt the hardcore approach so it might actually just increase the overal amount of hippies in society.

You probably understand that capitalism won't run by hippies if companies don't try to start to sell sunlight, juice and beads in every street corner. So there's need for government control in this issue too so we discredit all the possible signs how hippy-culture could be good for you.

It's really normal supply and demand.
Friedman etc. were right kind of right on the spot on this one too.
They just thought everything could work without gov control.
Which is stupid unless you want to hippies breed like rabbits.

Religious or cultural practices are not acknowledged as good by hippies unless they are "eastern" or possibly "pagan" or whatever. Any of the major non-eastern religions are way too mainstream for hippies.

Totally a scam. Gee. I agree with fifty there. New age hipsters, activate!

Very closely? The thing is in freakin'plain sight!

Mcdonald's: To die for

I'd have paradied John 3:16 and I'm loving it but I don't the heart for it today.

Correct, it was religion related. Some years ago my church had a national 'fast for the nation' thingy that was held the 40 days prior to Easter. It has basically become a yearly event for me. I dont always make it the entire 40 days, but the process of the fast itself teaches one a lot about ones own body and mental stamina.

Oh, and about fasts in general. People fast different things at different levels. Some people fast from TV; some from soft drinks, etc. I couldnt imagine trying to actually do the 40 day fast with no supplementing at all. Heck, its hard enough with just juice.

Right, that's a good idea! It teaches you that you're too weak to last forty days :p

Well, at least you don't make a pledge to last for forty days before, right? It's more like a "oh, well, I'll see if I can make it for the glory of God, if not, then whatever" thing, huh. :p

Let's put it this way - when you go to the homepage of the Breatharian Institute of America, you get this
- gibberish about "Earth Prime", and how it is " the original planet Earth on its original growth path, which is now completely in the 5th dimension."

Yeah. Needless to say, I'm not terribly impressed their ideas, or the scientific basis for them.
