[BTS 3.17] Super Spies - Standalone

well actually unfortunately tony doesn't like the idea of doing RevDCM as well because a lot of the features other than SS and the AI fixes would not add to the mod and we'd have to disable them. Neither of us are very proficient at coding and I think we're concerned that it will take a while to make it fit the mod. Also, would the SDK function well if it had an entirely new XML and art on it? If I can easily get it dressed up I can put the RevDCM in and tell him it's a mod I found like SS. But how do I shutdown and ditch all the menu options for map generators, the BUG menu and revolutions itself? I can probibly stall on SDK changes that I want to make until RevDCM is MP compatible (which would probibly be a deal breaker for tony), but not until I know the answers to the above question.

I read the whole post, but RevDCM doesn't change Stock BTS in any way, excepting Better AI and UP, and BULL and BUG. That's barely anything.

BUG by itself adds 30-40 buttons to the user interface. You do not have to use them, but when I first brought up a mod using BUG, I was quite distracted by all the new gadgets. It does not change gameplay but it certainly changes the user experience quite a lot.

RevDCM adds many options to the gameplay. Some of them are controlled by game options and some are not. For those which are controlled by game options, we had some trouble getting the options to turn off and stay off; when users switch from one mod to another, sometimes options turn themselves on. For those which are not controlled by game options, such as inquisitors, you would need to do some work to remove them, if you really want no changes to gameplay.

If you really require no changes to the user interface or gameplay except for superspies, then revdcm may not be a good approach.

I suppose, but the alternative is?

If you don't like RevDCM, that's all fine and dandy, but at least make an effort to propose a alternative. As I see it there are the following options:

1.) Use RevDCM - Simple, but may have some sideeffects
2.) Don't use SS - Simplest, but you lose gameplay content
3.) Learn C++ and update SS to 3.19 - Very difficult

Since the OP has said that they want SS, option 2 is gone. And if The Capo doesn't want to spend time learning C++, then there is only 1 option left.

I said if I had to do it I will do it.

I don't know if this is intentional but you have this weird defeatest attitude where it seems that you believe things can't change and must remain a certain way. I don't know if you really mean to come across that way, but you are.

You must be a conservative. (JK)

Dang, you got me pegged... ;)

I didn't say that you didn't want to learn C++..., I said if you didn't want to learn C++...

There's a big difference.

Oh, and generally, I'm a not a defeatist, but a realist. If someone has already done the work for you, why do it again? If you really want to get SS 3.19 alone, I recommend just looking at RevDCM code, SS 3.17 code, and then pulling the changes out of RevDCM. That would be easier than rewriting.

Having no coding background to speak of (other than merging a bunch of mods into my last mod) this is probably the avenue I'll take to getting this thing solved, if I can. I don't know if I will be able to do it, but I'm pretty confident it is more than possible, and if something is possible I believe I can pull it off, and if I can't do it by myself I can get it done by some other means. So I'm not too bothered by it, and I can't be the only one who needs this to happen. So in sum I'm pretty confident that I can get this accomplished at some juncture and by some means.

BTW, I didn't mean any slight against you. Apparently I am being an :):):):):):):) today for some reason.

None taken. Good luck on your endeavor. I learned C++ mostly from modding Civ. If you have questions, the people in the SDK/Python forum are extremely helpful.

So there is no way to preset the BUG menu and prevent the user from accessing it? Because, there are about 3 or 4 features which BUG could save me from coding, but, unless I can control the bug menu and not the user I'm not going to be able to use RevDCM. Is there a better forum to be asking these questions which I have asked?

Also, It's scandalous that a staunch conservative is using such a pot smoking hippie liberal as Gandalf as an avatar. Just sayin.

Try the BTS Unaltered Gameplay Forum. EmperorFool may be able to help you out.

Well, I am technically a conservitive, I don't line up with typical conservative norms. Please go read up on Paleoconservatism. There is more than us than than former President Bush. He represents a small, but powerful minority. Not the majority.

lol I was not being serious man, I do not want to start a what defines conservative speal because there are many denominations of all ideologies and such discussion is not for this thread. Also if someone makes a joke about something, rather than being serious about it, why don't you try running it into an equal or better joke under the context of the first joke. I have never(or so rarely I can't remember) seen a conservative capable of doing this even when they are in a location where political debate is prohibited. Not an attack at you, just making an observation and even I admit I should have dropped the topic at this point.

Thanks, but where would I be able to ask about disabling the custom maps functions and clearing as much extra files out as possible without causing problems and setting the revolution/barbarian settings off? This must be a noob question since it would be in the same locale as you would use conventionally to set custom game settings, but I'm a noob to modding so I don't know where and how to manipulate this data. I'd prefer to hard-code it out of the mod rather than just out of the map but I'll take whatever advice I can that's the least work.

Indeed. I agree, we need to stay on topic.

By custom map functions, do you mean the options like "No Tech Brokering, No Tech Trading, No Vassals"... Etc? If so, you can set a default setting for them in the CustomGameOptions.xml in the XML\GameInfo folder. Also, by setting the <bVisible> tag to 0, you can make it so players can not see nor change the option from the default.

perfect, that is exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you. I will trouble this thread with non SS related discussion no longer.

is there any standalone now? i dont want to merge my own mega dll with the rev dcm dll. this would be way too much work.
