[BtS] "Extra"

I was very impressed by this mod, especially all the civ specific graphics and the added civilizations and leaders. Which brings me to my question: unfortunately my computer can't really handle this mod late game, so I wonder if there's a mod that only includes a lot of extra civs and leaders, since that is what I am most interested in. I've been looking but to no avail.

So you did not come across Civ Gold yet ?

You might want to wait for the next version which should be out any day now.

Haha, I forgot about that completely. I did find it a couple of days ago but waited to download it for just that reason. Thanks for reminding me!

@Sword Of Geddon: Good thinking, I'll include them in the next update.

@os79: Yeah, the update path was already like that in vanilla. I think it makes sense, as there was a time when melee weapons and muskets co-existed in battle

@BobTheBull: Both the core version and the full version should work with 3.19, but the core version is still compatible with 3.17 as well.

@RPG: Short answer: yes :).

Hello all,

I played Extra 3.17k or l (the last 3.17 version) the full mode with BTS 3.17 on my old pc, huge map and 8~10 civs for a long time with no problems or long load times.

Since I've upgraded to BTS 3.19 and Extra 3.19a full, I'm experiencing extremely long end-of-turn delays, reducing map size to large had no effect. Load time of saved games is ok.

Is it BTS 3.19 or Extra 3.19 ?

Thanks

I would say it's BtS 3.19 since I haven't really added anything *special* to Extra since the last version (for 3.17). Unless it's the Terraforming modcomp, but I doubt that.

Announcement

When I'm done testing, I will upload the beta version of Extra 3.19b (full version). A long time ago an expanded future era was requested for the Extra mod. Now it's finally there. The reworked future era draws mainly on material from the Next War, Final Frontier and Afterworld mods (although a few of units/buildings have been tweaked to make them fit better in the mod). The terraforming ability is a concept from Call to Power, but I relied on Avain's modcomp to make it reality. I also added in some interesting concepts and buildings from the FutureMod, such as the Antimatter Bomb and Antimatter Plant.

The core features of the 'old' future era in the Extra mod have been preserved, although a number of techs have been removed or renamed. The buildings School of Zealots, Stellar Market and Academy of Knowledge have been replaced with the Training Compound, Commercial Satelites and Particle Accelerator (with roughly the same effects). The Nutrition Facility and Mining Facility are now a whole lot more useful. Futhermore, there's a new late-game wonder: Mission to Mars.

Most important are probably the new future units, which are bound to make the future era a very interesting era for war. The ultimate naval units: the Alpha Battleship, Alpha Cruiser and Alpha Carrier are still present. What's new is that the cloning->bionics->cybernetics research path now extends to mutability, allowing for genetically engineered clones: Mutants, Supermutants and Sentinels. Another new feature is the inclusion of antigravity units: the Construct Ship, Invasion Ship, Defense Ship, Alpha Destroyer and Starbase, each with their own distinctive qualities. These units can fly over both land and sea, although they are not as fast as naval ships and they can't benefit from roads on land.

Since this is still a beta version, all these features are still subject to change (especially regarding the balance between the new units). The pedia strings aren't done either. Still a lot of work to be done.

Well now--it's been a while since I've been on the site, and Extra seems to have exploded.

I like the idea of giving the Future Era a serious makeover. As it is, I liked being able to stomp around the globe with my battlemechs, and I always appreciated that your mod has gone far beyond the rather half-assed implementation of a Future era in Vanilla BTS. Exta has spoiled me so much I almost never play a regular game.

That said, I've haven't played Civ IV in months, and I still have 3.17c--so I look forward to 3.19b.

As a side note, I have been modifying the soundtrack files to include music from Next War and Final Frontier. I don't know if any current version of Extra already does this, but that sounds like a good idea to me. Of course, fans can just do the leg work themselves in order to keep the mod size from growing too big!

Thanks Chiyu for your answer, if BTS 3.19 is to blame for long end of turn delays, there in nothing I can do about it but save some money for a more modern PC.

And now for a moment of nostalgia:

For all of you guys longing for better and more excited futur era, I can only repeat the words of Mr T from the A team: I Pity you Fools for not playing Call to Power I & II whilst Civ2 evolved to Civ3.

Thanks.

download done !

Will play this !

is the civic with the 2% intrest attached to it broken or am i misunderstanding how/where it is ment to be applyed?

I had thought that it was ment to be applyed to my own stash of gold but it didnt seem to act that way.

It should be. :( Don't know why it wouldn't.

Downloading now, looks good. I fine you 40 Trillion dollars for making it 604 megs, and downloading it at 113 KB a second. :(
Other than that...
I'll let you know what I think about it when it finally downloads.

Thanks for the response, chiyu. Yes it does work with 3.17, but on my system it sometimes, but not always, takes a long time to load, like 8 to 10 minutes. So I thought it had simply crashed to desktop, as I have had problems with that since I reinstalled civ4 in all it's versions, with any version. This has turned out to be a hardware problem. But, once loaded Extra plays just fine with not performance issues versus vanilla BTS.

But no true modder could be content to just go with the flow. I want to incorporate Avain's terraforming mod and Dale's combat mod into my Extra. I did see that the 3.19 beta has Avain's mod included; does this also work with BTS 3.17, as that saves me some modding work. I don't want to upgrade to 3.19 at this time.

I also like to play with a huge earth map, probably Giant Earth Map. If I folded this into Extra, will the resources seed normally on startup? If not I would have to edit the whole map to include the extra resources which may not be worth it. I could just play the earth2 py generated map. Anybody have any experience with this using Extra?

And if anybody has already merged DCM into Extra I wouldn't mind a copy (this was mentioned in the thread). If not I will post mine if and when I get it working.

Thanks for any help.

To Chiyu : what about special mapscripts for Extra, because with Standard Earth 2, it has not certain resources...

What about including smartmap.py by default ?

I would love play perfectworld2.py for Extra :goodjob:

It there is 2.03 version

Hello to you all,
I need to now if some of you have noticed after installing BTS 3.19 patch a considerable delay at end -of -turn, before, with BTS 3.17 and Extra 3.17 a new turn took ~ 10 sec. After installing BTS 3.19 and Extra 3.19, a new turn takes ~ 120 sec.

I would like to hear from you people before I begin reinstalling the whole lot.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I looked through several pages of posts but haven't found an answer yet. If I load Extra and create a custom game, at about 11 turns in I get two python exception pop ups, despite supposedly having them turned off. There are two, but there must be an infinite amount of them because I can cancel them for hours and not run out of them. One is "can't find type enum for type tag CIVIC_BIG" and the second is "can't find type enum for type tag TRAIT_STRATEGIC". If I could close these out and never see them again, I'd live with it but I've spent a long time trying to do so and they won't go away. Solution?

Having gotten back into civ again and playing the newer versions of Extra, I can say I've also been having issues with increased time inbetween turns. Even on smaller maps, pre-late game, I can feel the inbetween turn lag slowly grow.

Anyone tried running 3.19 Full on 3.17? Based on what's added in Extra, I'd imagine it might work.
