[BtS] "Mars, Now!"

God, when you have serious problems with your computer, then don't care much about the entries, you sure have some more important stuff to care about now (not that i don't think the entries would be important...:D).

I hope after Civ5 is out, and i'm removed from moderating the Civ5 forums, i'll have some more time to do some stuff at the mod :(.

Wait, you're only a temporary mod? I thought you were there to stay! I'm going to re-download Mars Now! when I find out why all my big files stop at a certain percentage and begin skyrocketing (WoL went from 1 hour remaining at 50% to 12 hours remaining, still at 50%)

:dubious:

You cant just relinquish power! You have to cling to it! Everyone knows that!

Note he said "removed from the Civ5 forums". Considering that The_J does not intend to buy Civ5, it's reasonable that he won't be moderating the Civ5 forums... no? He's probably just moderating there because the release means a huge influx of new members, more discussion... and an extra dose trolling, so they need extra staff. He's probably staying a mod here on the Civ4 forums.

Of course, I might be wrong... - would be sad.

Cheers, LT.

This could be a problem with connection, especially when they cap your bandwith limit (if you're not having a complete flat rate). Or maybe just something temporary at your provider :dunno:.

This :yup:.
I'll be temporary moderating the civ5 forums, until the biggest influx is over and the moderator organization is completely clear.
For Civ4 C&C i'll stay :).

Funnily these posts reminded me to take again a look at the civ5 main forum, and well, was the right time to kick a bot :D.

DLed and good!

Nice to hear :).

Okay, that clears a lot up.

My provider is Movistar, which I wish to kill. They not only somehow booted my printer from the WLAN, but also installed a random Spy Sweeper software downloaded from Torrents and an illegal copy of WinRAR on my mom's laptop to test the internet. Interestingly enough, before the "upgrade" for higher speed, DL's came through faster and I could do pretty much whatever I want. When I have my 3G connection again, I'll try again :)

I've downloaded this before and played it, but recently I tried to redownload to see what's new. Problem is that now I can't install it again. I double click the .exe but it loads indefinitely. My desktop also freezes and the only thing I can do to fix it is to restart my computer. Any way you can help me?

 that's strange.
Are you using Win Vista/7?
Did you previously have a version, which had been installed with an installer or has it been a .zip?

It`s a good mod, but i`d prefer if the red soil wasn`t so bright.

Thanks :).
Yeah, i know, the colour . I haven't been able to produce a nice more brownish red, everytime i try to change it, the best i can get is maybe beige, but nothing better :(.

Maybe someone asked it not so long ago, but re-read 40 pages...
Two questions:
1 - is terraforming still turns all to water?(i hope no)
2 - is still oxygen and water needed to build a settlers?(i hope yes :) )

The answer to both questions is yes at the moment. I think that The_J has no intention of changing the rules when it comes to building settlers, but we're trying to come up with any better way to terraform. Right now, changing Mars from the Red Planet to the Other Blue Planet is the easiest, both in technology and in programming. However, I think that in a future release we may see a system where Mars Soil becomes grasslands, Mars terrain (or whatever the equivalent is to Plains terrain) becomes plains, and Desert remains desert, or becomes oceans or something else along those lines. I don't think we'll ever get to the point where we can have rivers appear on the map, flowing from Olympus Mons to the Marianas Trench, but we may come close. Hope that helps :)

Vortilex is completely right :).
The next patch with the terraforming changes is lying half done here on my hard drive, and i *still* (shame on my) didn't have the time to finish it.
The biggest flood in civ5 is over now, so i hope i'll have some more time at the weekends to do something...ah...no...i should not say something like that, i never find the time if i say i will :(.

I use Vista. Is it that?

I don't remember whether the last version I used was a self unloading zip or installer. I think it was the zip.

BTW, did you change/add/remove any of the leaders or civs? I think that each civ should get it's national anthem as its diplo music. The last time I checked, it was only India and Israel that had their national anthem.

That could be the difference.
The installer will certainly need admin rights under Vista, and if you executed the installation without, then the installation has not been performed.
-> Try it again, explicitly with admin rights.

And Japan and China.
Haven't added the others yet, because the songs i used don't feel that right for me. Maybe i'll do now. that will bloat the file size......will see.

I stumbled upon this, and dl'ed it together with Planetfall.

Looks very promising indeed :)

Well, what are the Martian, Jail Rock Inc., and Private Space Explorer anthems? I think some national anthems are too happy or otherwise not well suited to Civ.

Have fun :).

...er...at the moment they use the music from the civs i used as base, so it should be the babylonian, sumerian and...er...no idea music at the moment.
I have no real idea, what could be used for them (with looking at legal problems, can't use any copyrighted...else...Money, money, money from Abba :D).

Something fitting would need to have a theme in the song, and if the theme should be recognized, then it has to be a popular song, and then there's probably a copyright on it :/.

I think some national anthems are too happy or otherwise not well suited to Civ.

Yes, that's also a problem.
I don't know if the american or european anthem would really fit in here.

You can always use "America :):):):) Yeah!" :p

The account I use for everything on my comp is the admin. I should be able to install it with full permissions and such. Maybe I'll have to redownload the installer or something.

I don't understand why you should have a problem with copyrighting. I thought that as long as you're not trying to make money off it, you could use copyrighted music. I don't think you intend on selling this mod, do you?

As for anthems, I know the European Union has a lyriced version of the Ode to Joy as their 'national' anthem. Instrumental versions of the anthem would fit for the countries. If you don't want to use copyrighted music for the anthems for the Private Space Explorers (you have to find a better short name for them. I mean, 'Privates' sounds silly), Jail Rock and Martians, you could find original music by independent artists. I know that the website Newgrounds has an excellent audio portal with music free to download of all genres. You could probably use some music there with the artist's permission. I have a few suggestions for themes from Newgrounds:

A People's Passion - Martians
Shinra Corporation - PSE
3 Shades of darkness - Jail Rock

But those are just recommendations. I think your best bet is to find music from independent artists if you're really afraid of legal action.
