[BtS MOD] Wolfshanze 1850-1920 Enhancement Mod v2.0

oh if only I could afford a new computer, your mod seems top notch Wolfshanze.

This new Pirate mod intrigues me, but Grave took down the link. Do you have it?

Also I saw that you're using custom city art. Excellent detail, it must have taken you weeks to complete. May I use this for my personal civ?
what files do I need? will it work on a modular civ?

Give the mod a try, you do not really need a new computer to run it, my computer is almost 3 years old by now and I have no problems (back then it was pretty high end though).

Imo you have nothing to loose, at worst you will have spent some time downloading it while the mod indeed does not work that good on your PC.

It took GeoModder weeks to complete, it takes other modders about a few minutes to include. Wolf and I are great recyclers of other people's work ;)

The files you need essentially are this mod (it does include a few unit art changes as well) and yes, you can use them on modular civs as well. There is no difference between the two except the way the xml is split in modular.

Thanks mamba, if you only knew my pc specs........you probably would slap me

I downloaded the mod already but all I can do is look at the wolshanze folder and imagine how great it would be if I was playing this

thanks for the link to the city arts.

Time to get a move on then Nacadas and start thinking about getting rid of the computer and replacing it with something better. My desktops last me five years at least my last one did before it keeled over and died... Blue screen of death after five years. Still don't know why...

great job on the new V. wolfs!! 5 stars in my book! :goodjob:

Hi Wolf...your new mod downloaded OK but there is no interface when I loaded it :(.

Sorry to be a PITA...but I'm excited about playing Poland...!!! :). Hope your kids are OK.

Thanks for the compliments guys... a lot went into this one.

Kids are fine... just a routine checkup.

Don't take this wrong, but you've got to be doing something wrong on your end. Once again, hard to say exactly what without sitting in front of your monitor. :dunno:

What exactly do you mean by "no interface" when you loaded it? Do you mean the main Civ4 Menu, starting a game in the Wolf-Mod or what? Also, what exactly do you see on the screen (or not see)... the more descriptive you get, the easier it will be for me to diagnose your problem.

I'm going to back-up to some more "duh" stuff again, because really, starting the mod should not be hard or difficult. Especially with the new version, it should just be A) Download, B) Unzip, C) Start BtS, D) Load Mod, E) Play Game.

The simple stuff:

First Confirm what version you have of BtS... in-game, click on "Advanced" and "About this Build"... it should say "Civ Version: 317"... okay, now get the mod installed!

1) Download the mod (I assume this is done)

2) Delete any old versions of the Wolfshanze Mod from you "Beyond the Sword/Mods" directory.

3) Unzip the Mod into your "Beyond the Sword/Mods" directory... I recommend using WinZip for the sake of clarity, though WinXP will also do it native... but in WinZip there is a "Use Folder Names" option which should be checked... in the end, you should see "Beyond the Sword/Mods/Wolfshanze" directory... there should be multiple sub-directories in the Wolfshanze Mod as well, including Assets and PrivateMaps amongst others.

4) Start up BtS.

5) Go to Advanced menu and select: "Load Mod".

6) Load the "Wolfshanze" mod.

7) You should now see "Wolfshanze" in the top-right corner of the screen.

8) Should be up and running... the Civilopedia from the main menu should show some of the new graphics (all are revealed in-game) as well as the new units (like Dreadnoughts and Battering Rams) as well as the new Civs like Poland and Austria.

Once again sorry if the above sounds like "duh" stuff, but I really think you're missing something here... there's no reason why the mod shouldn't run properly right off the download. Also, what are your system specs... CPU, system memory, video card and Operating System?!?!?

If your talking about being able to see the main map but nothing else, I had the same problem with FfH scenario included with BtS. The solution was to make sure BtS was run as an administrator. Running as administrator is dealt with differently between XP and Vista: with XP, the user has to be an administrator, with Vista, right click on the icon and click on "Run as administrator", or in the Properties dialog, under Compatibility, check the box that says, "Run this program as an administrator". The only difference when starting up should be that a pop-up will ask if you wish to continue starting the program.

Wow... never heard of that before... weird... I'll bet that's it. Thanks Circuit.

What do folks think of the "official Firaxis" change in War Weariness (being lowered)... as far as I know, it's never been lowered (at least not in BtS)... in v3.17 they lowered the effect by 40%. To me, that makes the culture slider and Statue of Zues almost moot points (short of seeking a culture win), because with a 40% drop in WW, wars are much easier to carry-on for protracted amounts of time.

Is this a good or bad thing?

Personally, I think it takes some of the challenge out of the game and also busts a few things (or weakens their value) such as charismatic leaders, police stations, Police State, Statue of Zues and other WW-related things.

As far as I understand, this was an XML-only change and easy to reverse. In GlobalDefines.xml there is a simple War_Weariness tag with a single-digit number... in BtS v3.13 (and earlier Wolf mods), it was set to "5"... in BtS v3.17 (and the current Wolfshanze Mod based on v3.17) it's set to "2" (a 40% drop).

This can easily be changed/reversed... question is... should it? What are your thoughts? Was dropping from 5 to 2 by Firaxis too much of a drop? Was a drop at all even needed in the first place? Should it be changed back to "5" or perhaps "4" or "3"... or should it be left as-is at "2"?!?!?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Hm, hadn't noticed that (but I wondered why in my last game people were not as weary as I had expected them to be, now I know. Btw, changing from 5 to 2 is a 60% drop ;)

To me it really does not matter much, I never have much problems with war weariness anyway (I tend to have many but short wars).

Sorry Wolf. Realised after I posted that things weren't specific enough.

Duh stuff OK. Running XP, not sure how to find out the exact specifications but the game appears to run smoothly so I don't think it is anything to do with that in particular. Build = 317.

I'll try re-extracting...

...Nothing happening, no interface. I had the same issues when I installed BUG (I'm also running Blue Marble), which was fixed by updating the patch to 313, but since I assume you developed this for the patched 317 build, I don't think that's a particular problem.

As for the war-weariness problem, I don't find it too difficult, what I do find makes warfare harder is the increase in supply costs once your units step out of your own territory. I think that might offset the drop in WW and cause more hardship for empires strapped for cash, particularly in the axe-rush phase of play (before you have CoL, before you have a consistent surplus). As a result I am now holding off rushing people until I can run a surplus for a number of turns to make sure I can deficit spend for the duration of the rush, and I normally now raze cities rather than keep them.

Oh, you are missing the point of being able to go for domination victory Crowqueen. I can get this victory depending on who I am as a lot of my wars tend to be late, self-inflicted ones when I have enough tech leads on the AI to guarantee a stronger army than them...

What level do you play on? I play Warlord, so it's rather easier to keep up or ahead with the AI (except if Mansa Musa is playing and gets a good starting area, then it's a race to see who gets to Gunpowder first before the boys come knocking at Timbuktu's door...).

I suppose I tend to play the lower levels, like Settler. Must work on trying to get up to a higher level of play. I really do tend to have problems with a lot of the higher levels of play despite reading all the strategy guides, etc...

I've been in the hospital for a little while. (since we were on page 34, i think) I'm running version 3.6 of you're mod but I can't seem to find figure out what version we're on. Care to enlighten me?

Btw- Hospital visit: nothing serious, but it'll take forever to explain so don't ask.

As the first post says (which always tells the current version), we are on 2.8 by now. Do you come from the future ? ;)

Wow... future-man!

I hope you enjoyed v3.6... if I recall correctly, I had that one planned for release in 2014 with some cool holographic units and thought-controlled interface!

Since you come from the future, I want to know that by the year 2014, has Chugg released his v2.1 Cultural Diversity mod yet?

Really looking forward to taking your 3.17 compliant version for a spin today as haven't had a chance since it was released due to starting back at TAFE. Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings are my relaxation days. It all sounds good.
