[BtS MOD] Wolfshanze 1850-1920 Enhancement Mod v2.0

The shields are interchangeable between the units... so if wanted, they could all be stars or all be the great seal.

I'd personally go for the great seal on all of them. Up to you though obviously, however you want to set it up will look better. I only brought this up, because the other units had traditional seal crests, and I thought old glory just looked goofy in that role.

Well, been planning on doing something with the Americans for awhile... they're based on Zerver's v1.0 American Medieval Pack... he later released a v2.0 with better shields, but he used some different models that I didn't like and he darkened up the uniforms considerably and they lost any textured look (going to that monotone color look I dislike in a lot of Zerver's packs). So with this group, I redid the shields, kept most of the v1.0 models, used one of Zervers v2.0 models (with a new color scheme to match the old ones) and made the Great Seal of the United States as a shield pattern... I guess I'll just give that shield to the whole lot of them... call it Zerver's US Medieval Units v3.0.

Bloody hell those shields are either impressive or terrifying i ain't made my mind up yet :run:
I'm sure if the Americans were an independent nation in the Middle Ages, they would have used shields just like that! ;)

Wolf, just curious, what would the great seal sheilds look like with no stripes (I think a solid deep blue background might be better)? Don't discard the "Captain America" look so readily, it does have an it's own aesthetic appeal.

Also could I see them juxtaposed with the original Old Glory shield crests?

I know I might be getting a little too involved in this one, but this is the American's we are talking about. I want them to look better then the other units.

Agreed, deep blue and maybe grey/silver/metallic. Just for the fun of it to see how it looks. Deep blue is the right collor, but like to see how it looks on the units. Silvergrey might not be a correct collor but I think in ensemble with the great seal it could look great on a shield.

....the what???....

Thanks for asking that question. I just always thought Old Glory was an affectionate way of refering to the flag of the USA, little did I know there were historical aspects of this phrase:

Oh, one more thing. Drop the Navy Seal as the US special unit, it neither fits for the era, or makes much sense. Lets get an M1A1 (modern armor 3moves or +25% vs Armor) and AH64(+25% Gun) in the house. (Though the Warthog would make the most sense, I just fail to see how it could be a unique unit--but the A-10 is probably the sickest vehicle of war every made: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-10_Thunderbolt_II --Though you being an airforce vet, I wouldn't be surprised if you don't respect the Warthog)

Agree completely. Lets get these vehicles in the mod.

Oh good Lord... you guys are demanding! :p

Actually, I was still tinkering around with the guys (I wasn't totally satisfied either... these ARE THE AMERICANS we are talking about!), so I was already at work when you guys posted your comments.

First off, the "Captain America" look is a combination of red white and blue, not just a blue shirt with white star... Captain America had plenty of red/white stripes in his uniform too... if you ditch the red/white stripes on the shield completely (say for a total-blue shield), you end-up with a bunch of guys that will end-up looking more like the blue-man group then Captain America. Silver shield? Might work... might look good, but it really doesn't scream "Captain America"... and that's just un-american! I went with a different approach then any of the above... or perhaps you could call it a combination/compromise approach of the recent striped shield and some of your own suggestions...

Oh, and you wanted to see what the Old Glory shield looked like again? I'm not putting it back in-game (too-lazy), but here's a NifSkope picture of it... do realize the old shield was in a very low resolution, and my more recent shields I upped the resolution... if you REALLY like the Old Glory shield, I could rework it into a higher res shield (and probably use Betsy Ross for the Middle Ages), but I think it's a little redundant with the American flag flying right over their shoulders... anyways, here's the original Zerver v1.0 Old Glory Shield:

Now... here's my newer, higher-rez, new-improved v3.0 Great Seal of the United States Shield:

Do you like it?

Do you like it?
Do I like it? I L-O-V-E it  Looks even better than all the suggestions. Once again confirmed, leave the designing to the master. We may think something would look cool or great on a unit, but we were wrong. Great job! :goodjob:

I don't know if it has already been discussed, but why are the tunics purple-ish, not blue? (I'm affraid to suggest deep blue [as the top of the new shield] would look better, since Wolf knows best )

Holy cow! Originally, I wouldn't play the Americans because I thought the shields were rediculous. Now they're one of the best darn shields in the game! v. 3.0 kicks A!

What they really remind me of are the Prussian eagles on the German units.

Yeah, those look really good.

I love it.

My only request would be if the American UU could be within the time line of the leaders.

--Maybe a minute man(replace rifleman) unit, less :strength: but 2 :move:
or
--Maybe GI(replace infantry) starts with march

No more than you get with the other modelers here. :D

I added a second UU to every civ, and I gave the Americans minutemen with the promotions flanking 1 and 1 first strike.

Minutmen sounds like a good suggestion. But there are already so many musketmen UUs already. So I vote no. GI though, not bad. Still impartial to the M1A1 myself though.
