I am in. I should get the game prior to August 1. I dont check OT often so I would appreciate a heads up when you figure out what type of game your setting up. I clicked the single game but i would also be interested in a tourny.

Wheeeeeeee, i clicked and voted etc, i havent pre ordered or anything as i have no money but im sure ill be able to scrounge some up. I like things either way but i do like the idea of no tech trading as it makes diplomacy So much easier!

What's the point of MP without diplomacy! Its like the modern era without nukes!!!

(damn you Sparta, banning nukes in the Warlords game)

I never said it cancelled diplomacy i just said i made it easier and primarily because some people have lives and they dont have the time to spend the amount of time needed to conduct a heavy diplo game (or they have far too many games and so can't be arsed doing it).

If you want diplo get involved in the mtdg's/isdg's is the way i look at it.

I agree with Azza that it would be shame to remove the diplomacy aspects which form such a big part of the game!

Hehe, I knew the no tech trading would never fly, no worries. That just happens to be the one area of the game where I always suck. :D

My thinking is that no tech trading (or even moreso, always-war) doesn't remove diplomacy, it just makes out-alliancing much tougher. In the first two CivIVor games (and in other tech-trading-games I've been in), solid alliances proves more powerful than anything else because a larger alliance can out-research everyone else. At least without tech trading enabled, alliances can still happen and be powerful, but they don't necessarily cruise to victory.

Basically my diplo involves going into the diplo screens and trading techs. If an alliance is made involving me a few posts at the forum created to centralise discussion.

Still doesnt take away the improtance of making an alliance of sorts though.

Btw IglooDude, any way youc an sue your mod powers to make it so i've voted 'Yes, I'd like to play in an OT Civ-off tournament' as well?:)

I'd be interested, but I've never done pitboss b4.

@ntt:Why would people tech trade in multiplayer? I've never seen it except when people are cheap and gift someone who is losing badly in a war to suddenly get an advantage with new techs

Exactly - alliances would still be major, they'd just not be game-breakers in and of themselves. :)

Tech trading with an alie can allow two seperate paths of the tree to be explored at the same time. Say your land locked but your buddy isn't. He could focus on sea tech while you focus on something else.

I guess pitboss just allows more time for diplomacy. In the live games in the gamespy lobby it pretty much boils down to all war, so usually every game has tech trade turned of to prevent exploitation.

I voted yes I'd like to play and will have it soon after the release, but I need to team up with someone as I likely won't be able to play every single turn but will be able to participate.

Heh. The only reason why I've survived most of the pitboss games I've been in. Aside for "the new sheriff's in town" game. :D

I'd like no tech trading even if it's to my disadvantage.

Tubs I'll join with you because I've got a lot on my plate the next 3-4 months.

Pitboss does tend to be a lot different to gamespy mainly because of the time taken to play it allows multiple second guessing of yourself.

to clarify Whomp and my earlier statements.. we are intending on being 1 player, but serviced by 2 players. Neither of our schedules (Whomp banning everyone in OT and me jsut sitting around getting fat) permit us to guarantee that we will be able to login everyday. In order to facilitate the game moving at a maximum speed, we will both be checking on the same civ. Sort of like a schizo-civ

I am opposed to a team game! I like going it alone:)

I didn't enjoy single-player because, essentially, it boiled down to out of game friends trading everything to each other and, god forbid, RL intervenes and you miss a couple turns just as someone goes to war w/ you, etc....

So, if its SP, I'll probably take a pass.
