Can anyone with the game double check to see if City Art Styles (the ones implemented in Warlords) have been expanded?

Specifically if the Mesoamerican/Middle East/ and European styles now have their own individual style??

I have not recieved a straight answer to this question on the forum yet..Thanks for any help!

They indeed do represent the actual attitudes, because there are also "invisible" modifiers that don't show up in these numbers that determine the final attitude. (e.g. peaceweight, warmonger, etc) So as you can see , one civ might have -1 for two civs but be Pleased with one and Annoyed with the other.

OK, that's friggin AWESOME. Wow. So, it takes in to account both the "personality" of the leader's attitude being represented, as well as the personality of the leader towards whom that attitude is held? Like Izzy might be annoyed with anyone at -1, but with Monty it might happen at 0?

So? Someone can have a -2 relation modifier and be cautious and someone else can have a + 1 relation modifier and be annoyed. It happens all the time in the game. The relation modifiers don't strictly determine the relation between nations. If you've just refused a demand, then the relation is a bit worse and it will take a while for it to return to the relation determined by the relation modifier.

Yeah, but there being +5 in blue and a 0 in blue kind of threw me off. That's a rather wide range...especially when there are white numbers up to +3...

The point you make + personality considerations (assuming I'm understanding correctly) make it more clear how
such a disparity might happen.

From what I've read from other threads, the city styles have not changed. Only the unit graphics have.

While I like the idea of Great spies, I wonder if you really could devote that much of your precious specialists to spy production, when you often need artists, merchants and engineers more.

If you discover evidence that an enemy is heavily spying on you, those spy specialists will suddenly be quite important, no?

I would encourage you to read the thread AI attitude explained if you want to learn more about how these modifiers translate into attitudes for the AI. I found it very helpful myself. :)

One thing I'll say before I go: The unit style art (different art for different civs) is fantastic! It really adds to the flavour of the game - imo moreso than the city style art because you see different units running around (ie, scouts, swordsmen, archers, etc). (also it doesn't appear that the city style art has changed from warlords, although I didn't really take notice of it. The fact that I didn't take notice suggests that its probably no different).

Anyway, I'm gone. Goodnight all :)

I agree with you, Watiggi. It's just an art change but it's such a huge change in the way you think of the game. You're no longer fighting with clone armies. It just makes you feel like you are battling dsitinct civilizations even though the units stats are the same.

EDIT: on this subject, can someone use scenario builder to line up all the different units so we can see the art changes that Watiggi is talking about. I for one am not going to get to play the game until September when I'm back in California.

BTW, does religions grant acess to different buildings / units or are all the same?

Thank you both Watiggi and p dandy for you quick responses. I know the lack of Meso American and Middle Eastern city styles isn't the biggest problem, but whenever I see them sharing European style, I get a bit disappointed. It would be easy for Firaxis to fix in a patch, but I need to learn to let it go, as I don't see them ever fixing it! Anyways, small rant over...thanks for your help...go enjoy your game! :)

Does this mean that English grenadiers wear kilts?

Thanks oedali!

And, especially, thanks to you, again, Watiggi! Suddenly the wait isn't quite so unbearable (although I'm MUCH more excited now!).

The new unit art is one thing to which I've been very much looking forward.

I'd have to disagree. Up until now I was fine waiting and wasn't bothered at all about waiting another week. But after reading the pedia entries, posts about the game, and seeing screenshots; I can barely contain myself! :D

But does the new unit art also include units that a civ historically never had? For example, does Babylonia have unique art for their battleships?

Oh great. Mobile Artillery will be broken. Thanks Firaxis.

Well I'm not so sure. Gunships will probably cause flanking damage to attacking siege weapons, so I'm guessing they are the key to protecting oneself against Mobile Artillery.

The Mobile Artillery is a fabulous unit, though :)
