Another thing I noticed (compared to previews): Hippodromes aren't as good as they were thought to be (they don't provide 2 possible artists like Theatre, and Dye bonus doesn't exist anymore, only it's special Horses bonus).

I didn't notice that! I suppose that means his UB is terribly mediocre.

Doesn't it give +2:) per 10% :culture: spending ?
If so than it might really be worth it to run 20% :culture: with Byzantium.

Surprised no one's pointed this out sooner...

Wow. Yet another arguement for burning your first Great Person on a Golden Age. A food-rich water start with the Moai's = massive production of an early army.

I love that they improved the upper wing of the tech tree at the early going. The Statues seem exactly what was needed to balance that wing! Of course, I'll know better once I get the game... :crazyeye:

Cross-post: Commenting on Random Oracle.

@ eric: He has the Dike, the Moai & a Golden Age started

A closeup of the Moai Statues and an illustration of what changing to Universal Suffrage (without anarchy) and rush buying Dikes everywhere on an archipelago map does to your production.

:eek::eek: Holy crud! Can that be balanced? Your Mfg. Goods went up by ca 500%! It never more than triples during industralization, and that takes factories and power plants... How much gold did the dikes cost approximately?

Buying one from scratch (one turn of production invested to avoid a penalty) was about 750 gold. I was able to get each of my cities one easily so now they can build any further infrastructure much, much faster. Also, I'm planning to beeline to destroyers while everyone else is working on getting galleons built. :mischief:

Do note that the production will drop quite a bit when I come out of the golden age, though.
