BUFFY & HOF Mod Releases

Why? Why is the HoF staff so inactive? Denniz not there, never seen Methos, lymond also wanted to ask.

This is really unacceptable. If you lack the motivation, nobody will hold that against you, but then we need to find a new staff!

Sry, but I can't hold this back.

If you find such posts demotivating, think how we HoF players currently feel! You deleted our most active thread for beeing off-topic, you messed up my Quattromaster event completely, we seldomly get staff answers to our questions, we don't get to play with the newer versions of BUG BULL because nobody wrote even 1 PM to Lemon Merchant, there are espionage culture victories in the HoF below the traditional culture ones, the function to view the graphs of a game are not functioning for Months, Methos doesn't even react when mentioned...

Really, seriously, you are demotivated, I'm angry, because HoF could be something standing out on this site, it could have 3 times the competitors and noone would ever say things again like “the HoF stinks like ass“ .

I appreciate very much what you, shulec and lymond do, but if you're not motivated anymore, additional staff should be found, so this place stands out like it's supposed to!

What I meant by demotivating is that people find it easy to criticize and tell us what we should be doing for them. It is not new or particularly enjoyable deal with.

At this point, I am satisfied with just keeping the doors open. If you think you can find someone with the right skills, the time and willingness to make the long term commitment, I would be happy to recruit them for the HOF staff. Once they proved themselves out, I could safely retire with the knowledge that the HOF was in good hands.

I have no idea how to find such a person. Do you?

1. I'd ask Lemon Merchant, as she has the skills for this.
2. I'd ask for an announcement to be made, that CFC is looking for new staff members, and that they feel good for everyone who wants to take over some responsibility writing to them.
3. I'd ask ever active HoF player and I' also ask the GOTM staff, because the seem to even be overloaded. I once offered making a map, the answer was “we already have enough people“
4. I'd pray to God.

If I find further possibilities, I'll let you know of them immediately.

And I hope you won't be dismissed Denniz, but at least stay an “Honor-Admin“ (don't know how to translate this, I mean someone with admin rights that has no responsibilities) as an exchange for your long and hard work!

Seraiel's energy and encouragement the past several months have really livened up the HoF. It's a noticeable improvement. Makes we wonder how much more lively it could be with the right attention. Tho you may not agree with his tact, he's doing things to try to wake up this community. Denniz, it's clear your interest in either Civ IV, the HoF, civfanatics or all of the above has waned. You don't play the gauntlets/challenges (never have?) nor get involved in discussions--other than to moderate. Why not consider handing off the reigns completely? Sounds like you have handed off the day-to-day, but still hold some position of authority -- where we've come to expect the answer 'no' to any requests.

I've always been thankful that someone has kept this site going for so long on a relatively old game, but my eyes have been opened by Seraiel, and I can see how much better it could be. We need a real Civ IV fanatic behind civfanatics. Someone that loves volunteering for the job. If you don't enjoy it anymore, you should do something else.

Just thought od something: Why not ask specifically in the Modder forums too? At least there, people got the coding-knowledge that is needed.

First of all thank you for all your efforts, we do recognise that you keep things spinning despite not having the same enthusiasm and that is to be admired and respected. Sorry if some of our posts feel like an attack, we do appreciate what you do but the lack of recognition of Seraiel's amazing achievement has perhaps brought things to the boil.

Secondly what skills are needed? That would be the critical question in seeking to find a recruit or 2 (and Seraiel's idea of asking in the Modding forum makes sense). I have a techy background with skills in PHP / CSS / HTML - albeit rusty but currently dabbling a bit with HTML5. I don't have the skills to update Buffy but would be more than happy to be involved in any way you deemed my skills were appropriate for.

Thanks again for all your efforts over the years.

As you're working on the new BUFFY again, could we maybe request some features? :please:

My wishes would be:

1. An inGame calculator.
2. The log showing when somebody has a new tech, not only when he's willing to trade it.
3. The possibility to save the log in a certain position and size.

All of those would be mega-ueber-awesome mates :) .

If it isn't in BUG already, I wouldn't hold your breath. The last mod I created was mapfinder. I am willing to rest on my laurels. :mischief:

And maybe someone else? Like NobleZarkon?

Also: @ Denniz

Replay #4 had the same number of clicks like the Mapfinder thread. Did I rest? No, I wrote Replay #5-9

WastinTime had 40 HoF records, did he rest? No, he started on SGOTM.

kovacsflo already was #1 QM. Then he got it taken. Did he rest? No, he re-conquered it again ;) .

I'm working on some other stuff you guys want :-)

To be honest I think if Denniz can get us up to the latest level of code and bring in Culture by Espionage then that's a win and a good platform for the future.

Dividing out culture by espionage would be good, as would implementing the BUG features that are not in BUFFY right now. I'm looking more forward to that to be honest, so I hope that will be included.

And thanks a MILLION for MapFinder. Imagine trying to get a good map for a difficult game like the current GMajor without it

Time spend coding is time NOT spent gaming. :D

People have no idea how much work/time some of the suggestion that get through out all the time would actually take to do.

I grabbed the most recent version from their SVN.

You are welcome. (Credit also goes to Dianthus who put the needed hooks in the C++ code.)

I loved the Civ3 MapFinder for the same reasons. Civ4 MapFinder was me wanting the same for Civ4. Call it paying it forward.

Well, then we're in the same boat, Replay 5-9 were also no gaming.

So would I ever throw the towel when I would have the possibility to program something amazing for all of my beloved HoF players?

Ofc. not, let me quote shulec: "I'll wait until 2016 never! ;)

Agreed. No harm in anyone asking for something but please understand when we say no or not yet. In order for me to do anything in Buffy, for example, there are a whole load of new technologies I would need to learn and that's not my focus right now.

I would like to learn it in future and I do have some ideas however ......

If there is something I would absolutely adore in the new BUFFY, it would be an option somehow to choose what specialists to focus on in a given city, while also having control of the tiles yourself.
It's not going to be in the next Buffy, and I have no idea if it's viable, but I have had the same thought
