Bug reports and technical issues

Oh. I don't think it's realistic to let bombards fire across the English Channel, much less archers.

I could now segue over into a David Mitchell-esque rant about how stupid it was to include that into Civ5 in the first place and how it misses the point of a global strategy game completely and utterly, but that would probably be rude.

No really, please do. Let us hate the great Satan together, and get some steam out. And no, I'm not really being sarcastic. That game had so much insanely stupid stuff, but archers being able to fire across a ing ocean was probably THE most idiotic. Most disappointing game ever

I have stopped channeling David Mitchell unfortunately :(

The only implementation of "ranged bombardment" I could imagine would be to allow archers etc. to attack units on neighboring tiles without them having the chance to strike back (i.e. only first strikes without actual combat), but that's it.

I like the ranged bombardment in Civ V, actually. It makes no sense thematically, but it does make tactics more important in war. Not that it would necessarily make sense in Civ IV.

Well, if you have to justify a feature of a global strategy game by its tactical merits you know that something's gone wrong.

Actually, all of my criticism of Civ5 comes down to the fact that they tried to force the game design paradigms of another genre into a series where they don't belong. I have nothing against Panzer General (or even better, Battle Isle, if we go into 90's hexagon strategy games), and Jon Shafer is free to make games like that if he likes them so much, but maybe he shouldn't try to do it when he was hired to work on the frigging Civ series.

SVN 490, got this error as soon as I founded my first Moorish city:

Wonderful. I've only gotten that in autoplay and then it's impossible to verify which city caused it.

Edit: You know when ESL people confuse accents with apostrophes? That's what Rhye did here. Fix committed.

Speaking of the Moors, they might get a minor rework in the near future.

Would it be possible to make them change there capital to Marrakesh in 1090(to represent the annexation of Al-Andalus by the Almoravid) in order to make them survive longer?

Another error, this time on automatic declaration of war by Rome on Greece (me):

I was wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that I had recently (about 2 turns previously) negotiated a peace treaty with Rome in exchange for Construction?

Nope, just bad coding. Fix committed.

Haha, I just tried to do a dramatic reading of one of my posts in his voice and you're right. Everything is made better by Mitchell's voice and diction. Especially rants.

Okay. Do you have two saves from which it does/doesn't happen?

That won't help :(

Hopefully no one's mentioned this already. 3000BC happened upon a laughably weak Spain, decided to just take their cities instead of settling to prevent Iberia from being even more crowded (pic 1). However, when I took their cities and established my capital in Santiago, I noticed something interesting:

Apparently you have to settle a city in Iberia as Portugal or else it thinks you've been kicked out like in the old versions of vanilla rfc. Fix yo game Valve ;)

It's sufficient that the Portuguese capital is not in the Portuguese core for the game to think that they have been exiled (and also, that Spain controls the entire peninsula, hence Kingdom of Iberia). I should extend the requirement to Iberia as a whole.

Is anyone else having issues with the Byzantine UP not working (that is, they are collapsing well before its expiry date while still holding Constantinople)?

Yes, I mentioned it back in the SVN thread yesterday. Glad to see a confirmation of this.

Perhaps Kingdom of Galicia if Portuguese capital is in Santiago.
